- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2013Author (or editor) needs to take a remedial aircraft identification class. Consistently misidentifies Curtiss JN-4s as Avro 504s using British serial numbers instead of correct Canadian serial numbers. Other incorrect identifications - Gotha G V instead of Blackburn Kangaroo (pg. 24), Avro 504 instead of Bristol F.2b (pg. 25), "trainer version of Camel" instead of Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter (pg. 27), "second photo of same aircraft" (referring to picture of "trainer version of Camel") instead of Sopwith Dolphin (pg. 28) - list goes on and on. Author also incorrectly refers at least twice to United States Air Force (which did not come into being until 1947) instead of correct Aviation Section, U.S. Signal Corps. Quality of photos is addressed in the introduction (some very bleached out) but they are very interesting - too bad captions are also of such poor quality.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2021You know there's trouble ahead when on the back cover of Royal Flying Corps Images of War states ; "... to further our understanding of the Second World War..." .The R.F.C. ceased to exist April, 1918. Twenty aircraft photos in 134 pages of uniforms, buildings, cars, cycles and civilians. The previous reviewers have already pointed out the serial misidentifications of aircraft. " Training of the R.F.C. " would have been a more related title. I agree this seriously flawed book should be withdrawn. Buyer beware !
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2013Was not up to my expectations, but perhaps my standards are not suitable for judging these books, am too oldfashiioned..
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2015The best I can say is that this book does contain photos of the RFC (and RAF, RCAF) in WWI, some of which I see in this book for the first time. I cannot understand how the author and editors (if there were any) could so consistently misidentify the aircraft depicted, especially since the same aircraft are sometimes said to be different types ((SIA 7B as an Avro 504, then the next page correctly identified, JN-4s often as Avro 504s, Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter as a "trainer version of the Sopwith Camel" because it has " two cockpits." Most of the photos are not of aircraft, but personnel.
Two stars is generous.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst R. F
One of the worst R.F.C.books I have ever had. Many photographs are NOT of the aicraft shown in the captions and I most certainly would not recommend buy it !
