Review

"Cobb's book is solid, and can help a newcomer establish a baseline for preparedness. It would make a good addition to a prepper's library, and would be a good gift for someone interested getting started in preparedness." -- Leon Pantenburg, SurvivalCommonSense.com

"Jim Cobb presents practical advice in a panic-free, easy-to-understand manner. He touches on all aspects of preparedness and as I read the chapters, I found myself jotting down reminders to investigate certain topics further and making notes on how I could improve my current readiness plans and preps. This book is great for getting those wheels turning." -- HomeReadyHome.com

"The book is a treasure trove of information on topics like shelf-stable food, safe drinking water, home defense strategies, bug-out plans, and much, much more. It's one of those books that you would actually want to pack IN your bug-out bag to take with you and read over and over again to retain the knowledge so you can put it into practice on the fly." -- Patrick Blair, SurvivalAtHome.com

"Jim Cobb has rapidly established himself as one of the leading authorities in the preparedness and survival field. He has shown time and time again that he knows his stuff, and most importantly, knows how to convey that knowledge to his readers." -- Scott B. Williams, Author of
Bug Out!, The Pulse, and The Darkness After

"In the disaster preparedness community, most people just talk the talk. Jim Cobb is one of the few that walks the walk!" - Creek Stewart, Author of

This is the second book by this author that I have purchased and once again I was not disappointed. Jim weaves basic survival tactics in with advanced long term sustainable survivable techniques. This book covers everything from growing your own garden to basic first aid. I read through this book in one sitting. The book itself flows very well and shares some very logical tips for taking care of your family in a wide range of emergency situations of both the natural and man caused type. Jim is a survival expert but he is not a lunatic or nut job. He is reasonable some of his suggestions are as simple as keeping a change of clothes and a toothbrush at the office in case of emergency but he also provides advise on at home survival kits. The end of the book contains several checklists that i found very useful. Overall this is a great book with valuable information in a format that is easy to understand and fun to read.

The editing in this book leaves something to be desired. I have found in several spots throughout the book where phrases are repeated excessivly- sometimes literally one scentence repeated twice back to back. Other than that, the content is interesting and has got me thinking beyond my "small time prepper" mentality. This book is a good book for people like myself, amateur/aspiring preppers. This is an easy read and a very good place to start in the world of preparedness.

I believe any person who cares about his family and friends needs to read the "prep" book. While some say it is for "beginners," I say "so what!"... most people haven't even begun to prepare for ANY kind of emergency situation. What happens in our country if there is a tornado, hurricane, flood, wild fires, drought, riots, terror attack, food shortage, water shortage, no electricity, solar flare, and so on? What are some of the primary things you "need" to survive immediately and on an ongoing basis? Many have our American mentality that says we are "safe and secure" and "nothing bad will happen to us" and "somebody out there will take care of us." Wake up! It is not irrational to prepare - especially for your loved ones. This book was very insightful and I highly recommend it. Be responsible. Get ready.

Love it. The author does a great job of entertaining you with his real life experiences, as well as others experiences, that lead into lessons about disaster readiness. The way it is written captures your attention and teaches you at the same time. This is not a "Zombie Survival Guide" or any other fictitious bull crap book for paranoid delusional psychos but rather a book that informs you that not all is peaches and cream forever and it is better to be prepared for a disaster than to be the guy standing there with his thumb up his ass...

This is a good read that explores many aspects of common sense prepping without getting into much detail. Ideally, I'd give it 3.5 stars but I don't feel like rounding up. This book doesn't go into specifics enough for my taste and having read other books like this I already felt I had a grasp of the basic preparedness philosophy it was trying to lay out. I think it's a good book for beginners and despite my criticism I did dog ear half a dozen pages to read again later. Certainly not bad but not great either.

I have been trying to gather information about prepping from various sources. From People I know. And some people that i wish i didn't know. And after taking the time to read Jim's Book I totally get it now. Jim laid out whats really important and whats not. I have a better understanding of what it is I am really trying to accomplish and A better Idea of how I will move forward with not wasting time on things that are not necessary. Jim's Book makes it easy to understand and to explain to others. I know I ordered one for each of my brothers and sisters so they will have a good reference to go to while they begin there prepping plans. Jim's book has definitely made it easy to put my plan together faster and effectively.
A must have for every family.
