A dinner for every night of the year—including gluten-free versions—from the New York Times bestselling author of Make It Fast, Cook It Slow.

Synopsis: Ms. O'Dea is back with 365 dinner recipes focusing from the popular meat families such as chicken, beef, fish and pork. She even throws in some vegetarian selections. As with all her recipes, they are gluten free.

    +Honey Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

    +KFC Inspired Chicken

    +Reuben in a Pot

    +Greek Spiced Pot Roast

    +Pot Roast French Dip Sandwiches

    +Saucy Steak Wraps

My rating: Nothin' but 5 Stars for this bad boy!

My opinion: Being a HUGE fan of Ms. O'Dea's cookbooks, I was giddy as a school girl going on her first date when I saw this book on Netgalley. I crossed my fingers when I requested it and delved right in when I was approved.

As usual, Ms. O'Dea did not disappoint. I could count on two hands the number of recipes which wouldn't work out for my family or that just didn't strike me as being appetizing.

She includes a nice selection of soups/stews, which have always been winners whenever I have made them. She has also added a sandwich selection, which had some nice, unusual selections.

I think my favorite part of this cookbook was that Mexican and Caribbean "themed" recipes were plentiful. I was drooling and meal planning as I was reviewing the book. Recipes, as usual, were well laid out and the pictures were plentiful.

Source: Netgalley for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (and purchased)

Would I recommend? : Ummm, YEAH! In fact, I already have. The second I saw this book was out, it went into my Amazon cart.

These recipes are simple, with real ingredients that make delicious meals. I am the main cook for my family, and I am a vegetarian, while my family is not. There are so many recipes in this book that we all love. Stephanie O'dea gives a nice summary of several recipes in the margin, including how well her family liked it. She even has a few recipes for spice blends if the reader would prefer them to store bought mixes. She has recommendations on making recipes gluten free. There is plenty of room to write notes on the pages, and there are lots of photos too. This cookbook is so easy to read and follow that I use it very often. I have repeated many recipes and have tried over half of them.

I looked a lot before ordering a slow cooker cook book - many choices out there, but wanted an all-around resource of solid, tasty recipes for the work week. So many books contained bland or unhealthy recipes, others were no more than a list of canned foods to throw together and heat, and a few involved so many complex pre-cooker prep steps that I wondered what the sense was in even finishing the meal in a slow cooker.

This book was different - it has a huge number and variety of slow cooker recipes, for every meal, food preference, and all are easily modified to meet one's dietary preferences or needs. The spicing is interesting, and resulting meals have been consistently good - one we enjoyed tonight I'll definitely make again, Chicken Curry Chili. Sounded odd, but the flavors work fantastically. I used dried small white beans instead of the recommended canned beans - just soaked the beans overnight, drained them, and then put the rest quickly together in the morning. Quick and easy, resulting in a thick savory stew awaiting us as we arrived home at end of day.

The recipes are clearly written, and descriptions accurate. The book is easily organized, and the recipes are overall healthful and a good balance of taste and healthful nutrition. I have found it easy to "slim down" interesting recipes that ordinarily I might by pass for calorie count, fat content, etc.

There is something for everyone here, and with 365 recipes in the book you will surely find a number to add to your personal favorites. Enjoy - and happy cooking!

Let me preface by saying I am an OK cook but not interested in cooking. I don't like planning meals, thinking about what to have, shopping, basically anything that has to do with cooking. This cookbook is awesome! I looked through the whole thing, made a list of things I (or my family) would eat and then started to try them out. I've had this cookbook for awhile now and have made many of the dishes. This is good food!!!! Easy! These can be easily adapted to non-slow cooking if you want, but why bother? The simplicity of slow cooking with this cookbook has created so many more options than my previous boring dinners. This, and my old Betty Crocker cookbook, are the only cookbooks I use. Planning what to cook with a resource like this is actually fun. Who would have known cooking could be so rewarding? :)

I gave this cookbook and a slow cooker to two people on my Christmas List this year. Both work in hospitals, have crazy schedules and not a lot of time to cook at home. They loved it as much a I do. If you are looking for an easy system to providing yummy homecooked meals, this is it. The 365 different meals appeal to foodies, with a large selection of recipes that include comfort foods, ethnic favorites, vegetarian, and all gluten free. I have tried the Vegetarian Bean Soup. Smelled divine while cooking, and tasty, low calorie, healthy and budget friendly. The meat spagetti sauce was a real winner with my husband. Enough in the freezer for another meal. Great way to stock your freezer for those times when you could use a quick meal. Looking forward to months of slow cooker suppers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have for quick prep/slow cook family meals

My copy of "Crockpot Lady"'s first book is well thumbed, so I was please to see this to save me keep printing recipes off the internet. I've tried several already, and they've all been gobbled up. Sometimes the ingredients mean the smell while cooking is not always pleasant at first - for example I there's a lot of mustard or vinegar included - but don't be put off, the long cooking really mellows things down but the finish! I love that she rarely requires lots of pre-cooking like browning of meat - seems to defeat the object to me, as well as making lots of extra washing up! (If I had time to brown the meat I wouldn't be dumping stuff in the slow cooker.)

I haaaaate cooking. I'm not creative and dinner time is just such a dreaded chore at the end of a long day for me, I could cry. So I really mean it when I say that I LOVE this cookbook! My family is a bit confused about why we are suddenly eating so well. I can do all of my prep in the evening or morning and just get on with my day! There are so many yummy and healthy recipes to try. There are pictures, but not for the majority of the recipes, but I 100% don't mind that because there's lots of room to write your own notes. Author's verdicts are also a really helpful touch. Love it!! 10/10 would recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend this book to those who want simple recipes when ...

Finally a book that's just not filled with stew recipes! I have made about twenty recipes so far since purchasing this book (2 months span) and each one of them has been a hit with our whole family. The ingredients are simple, there is hardly ever any prep before filling up the crockpot, and the recipes don't have that "crockpot" taste. I recommend this book to those who want simple recipes when pressed for time.

Great inspiration for that most indispensable item in the kitchen : the slow cooker.
Whether you literally follow book's recipes (served with author's verdict) or adapt them to variations of your own,
one loves in particular the elegant hand with spices from India Malaysia China and Japan.
