RAVE REVIEWS FOR LILY DALTON'S NEVER DESIRE A DUKE:
"Dalton's Regency debut resonates with real feeling...Unlike some one-note tortured heroes, Vane is sincere and appealing. Sophia's pain is very real, and every interaction is fraught with honest emotion. As they struggle to recapture their romance, readers will feel deep sympathy with both characters and hope for them to find happiness."
--Publishers Weekly starred review
"The first in Dalton's One Scandalous Season series grabs the reader's emotions in an intensely passionate love story, filled with misunderstandings, past indiscretions, trust and forgiveness. But, for all the intensity, this gifted storyteller also deftly lightens the mood in a very well-written and satisfying read by adding a few zany characters bent on mischief and mayhem."

- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2014Lily Dalton’s second in the Scandalous Season series delivers again. After her fantastic Never Desire a Duke, Dalton continues to produce a great romance that sucks me right in. The heroine, Daphne Bevington, masquerades as her maid in an attempt to right a wrong. In her pursuit to help her maid, Daphne meets the man of her dreams, Cormack Northmore. The story centers on whether these two can find happiness when Cormack is promised to another while Daphne vows never to marry. Both have believable reasons for their actions. The author’s voice is perfect and in my opinion, keeps getting better. I can’t wait for the next in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2014After loving Never Desire a Duke I was so excited to read Never Entice an Earl and I'm happy to say that it lived up to expectations. However, when I first started reading I wasn't sure if that would be the case. The beginning of the story, where we learn about Cormack's time in India, his sister's scandal, Daphne's friendship with her maid Kate, Kate's family's debt, and how Daphne schemes to help Kate really dragged for me. It felt like a lot of background and I just wanted to be through the background and onto the story. It was like Cormack and Daphne would never meet.
But then, under very scandalous circumstances, they do meet and it was great. Their connection is immediate, but in a very believable way and the connection between them was steamy! Even though Cormack thinks Daphne is her lady's maid he, a wealthy merchant who is also a newly discovered peer, immediately takes a liking to her, but in a classy way, not in a rich guy taking advantage of a servant way, which immediately endeared me to him. Eventually Cormack discovers that Daphne is not in fact a lady's maid, she's one of the season's most sought after debutantes and then things got a little less steamy. Cormack is determined to find the peer who scandalized his sister and he realizes Daphne, if he holds her scandal of her head, can help him. Part of me was disappointed that Daphne and Cormack's relationship took a more contentious turn, but it was also fun to read about them arguing.
Like Never Desire a Duke my biggest issue with this book was questions I had about some of the things that happen are fully historically accurate. Like Daphne being so close to her maid and doing something so dangerous for her and Daphne and her sister having such freedom. But, in the end, those things are made up for by a really stellar story and great characters. If you're someone who's really concerned about historical accuracy though you might be bothered. Also, like Never Desire a Duke, there are some coincidences that arise towards the end of the story that were very convenient and had me shaking my head a bit, but my love of the rest of the story pretty much allowed me to ignore them.
Bottom Line: Never Entice an Earl is another winner from Lily Dalton, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite historical romance authors. Cormack and Daphne are both great characters and their story was fun, steamy, and interesting. There were also great peeks at Sophia and Vane from Never Desire a Duke. I can't wait for the next book in this series, Never Surrender to a Scoundrel, which is Clarissa's story and comes out in winter 2015 (so far away!).
I received an electronic review copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley (thank you!). All opinions are my own. (less)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2015There’s one thing about every book I read that makes it special for me. In this one, it’s the fantasy of having a man love me the way Lord Cormack Northmore loves. Author Lily Dalton has created a sexy, tenacious, and lovely hero.
Lady Daphne Bevington is a woman who cares for her family and friends above all, and will put herself in danger to save someone she loves. That’s why she travels to a sleazy part of London to settle her friend Kate’s debt. She quickly gets in over her head and requires saving herself.
Cormack is searching the dives of London for the peer who ruined his sister. Instead, he finds a woman in need of help. Their circumstances require that nothing can come of the meeting, but that night will remain an intriguing adventure and a sexy connection neither will ever forget.
If anyone finds out what Daphne did that night, her entire family will be ruined. When Cormack finds who she really is, he’s willing to use her to locate the man he seeks for his revenge. Both walk a thin line leading to disaster as they try to keep their secrets intact, while they fight their mutual attraction.
Surprising twists kept me on edge through this exciting tale with its satisfying romance. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
