About the Author

Cynthia Freeman (1915–1988) was the author of multiple bestselling novels, including Come Pour the Wine, No Time for Tears, and The Last Princess. Her novels sold more than twenty million copies worldwide. Born in New York City’s Lower East Side, she moved as a young child with her family to Northern California, where she grew up. She fell in love with and married her grandmother’s physician. After raising a family and becoming a successful interior decorator, a chronic illness forced her to adopt a more sedentary lifestyle. At the age of fifty-five, she began her literary career with the publication of A World Full of Strangers. Her love of San Francisco and her Jewish heritage drove her to write novels with the universal themes of survival, love, hate, self-discovery, joy, and pain, conveying the author’s steadfast belief in the ability of the human spirit to triumph over life’s sorrows.

The story involves the lives of an Englishman who becomes enamored with a bohemian girl in Paris prior to WWI and their lives through that war then the years up to and including the occupation of France in WWII. It is an interesting story of personalities, intrigue and suspense.

Book is raggedy and old (didn't expect it to be so worn out falling apart actually) ... but what a great read !!! I love this story...

I love Cynthia Freeman's books. This is the 3rd and each are great. I feel as if I'm watching a movie when I read her books. I never want them to end. Perhaps she will start writing sequels.

A little far fetched and unrealistic. The characters did not evoke any emotions in me. They were tortured souls that I never grew to care much about.

Not often that I pick a novel for pleasure reading. I found this a pleasure without being too offensive. Imagine!

What a great book, i've thoroughly enjoyed it,
It becomes hard to put down when you start reading it, the plot moves fast and the reader is never bored with useless information and attention to details. I love the fact how the fictional events portrayed in the book tie in with actual events of the past century , such as WWI and WWII. The book explores the sorrow of losing loved ones and human emotion and feelings. While at the same time showcases the lifestyles of English and French elite societies, which is used to show that money after all is not the solution to all of life's problems. Sometimes the circuimstances one finds himself are not solved by buying your way out. I would definetely reccommend this book!!

I bought this book for a friend who had just taken an interest in baking cakes and she is pleased with it. It has a good selection of cakes and biscuits and would appear to be handy to have around.
