Worth the Fight (MMA Fighter Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,260 ratings

It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.

I loved Worth the Fight. I loved Nico Hunter. I loved Vi Keeland's writing. This was my first book of hers and I'm forever a fan. Being in side both Nico and Elle's minds is perfect for this story. The author does a great job of not lingering on unnecessary and mundane details of their times together but instead focuses on the important moments. Elle and Nico have very unique pasts that are completely unrelated to each other but at the same exactly the same. From the first moment the two meet they find a kindred spirit in the other without even understanding why. I've said before and I'll repeat it again I can't get enough of love stories where both the hero and heroine are broken and vulnerable only being able to really start living again when they meet one another. Nico and Elle are no different. Nico is strong, tough, rough around the edges but his vulnerability is what makes him who he is and what makes you feel for him. He says the most honest sentiments to Elle, sentiments that will make you swoon coming from a man who is all man. Elle describes it better than me: "But his words, that's what does me in. They're raw and honest and filled with emotions, and I can actually feel my heart swell as they're spoken." And she's right, Keeland's dialogue writing makes you believe everything he professes to Elle because it's such a juxtaposition next to the way he looks and what he does for a living. You can't believe he's anything but real. Elle is an equally heroine; strong in her convictions and easily assured by Nico. She knows she's found something worth fighting for in him and she holds onto that. She has been living day to day with no emotions, existing without feeling because of the hold the guilt of her past has on her. Nico describes her best when he says "And when I look in your eyes I see a little light flicker...And for the last twenty four hours all I could think about was what it would take for me to turn that flicker into a flame." Their relationship progression was perfect for me, not too fast or slow. It's a really powerful, moving love story. I'm so excited to read the second installment and more by Ms. Keeland.

Nico is an MMA fighter who is still emotionally recovering from killing an opponent during a match.
Elle is a lawyer that is stuck in a boring relationship and is fighting her own dark secrets from her childhood.
Nico meets Elle in a meeting and is completely enamoured by Elle and proceeds to pursue her.
She feels the chemistry between herself and Nico and decides to also pursue it.

Nico is a fighter, but he is senstive and is a nice guy. He doesn't try to kiss Elle since she make it somewhat clear that she is still in a relationship with someone else. Wow. Who does that?
Elle is a spunky, smart independent woman who has chosen a smaller law firm instead of making the big bucks at a big one.

This book is about how both Nico and Elle help each other face their past (mainly Nico facing his) and how they learn to live life more fully with each other.

There are a lot of hot steamy scenes. Yowza.
It may be a bit much for some, but it doesn't get raunchy - they just like to make like rabbits a lot.
Not sure how he can train when he's up all night having hot passionate sex....

This book definitely pulls you into their relationship. You can feel Nico's vulnerabilities. It's not too conrived and it's not gut-wrenching.
Elle does the bit where she has a big secret that she refuses to share and he takes it as her not liking him..that goes on for several pages - but not enough to be annoying. If it went on longer, would have killed my interest in the book.

No real villains in the book. Thought the ex-boyfriend would go weird on her - but he kept it under wraps.
Main 'villains' were their own selves.

Their relationship is written nicely in this book. You like both characters. Actually, for the first half of the book, I was too caught up in how sexy Nico is to really think about personality. sorry.
Love that Elle is smart. But of course, she is gorgeous too.
I liked how their relationship worked. He did all the cooking - but they took care of each other. One character wasn't always working extra hard to fix the other. It was equal in how they relied on each other. How they leaned on each other.

There is a nice wrapping up Epilogue that makes everyone's HEA very sweet.
Thank you for no cliffhangers or weird series of books that I have to read in a row.
Thank you for our HEAs
Thank you for an easy to read book that doesn't make us crazy, doesn't make us super sad (deep depression over the character's suffering), gets us hot under the collar from the steamy scenes, and makes us always believe in love conquering all.
Thank you for likeable characters. Even when Nico gets upset with Elle, he immediately feels remorse and does all he can to win her back. Thank you for making Elle both sexy and smart!

I highly recommend this book.
Enjoy!

This book is GOOD! I couldn't put it down! The story line was real and the emotions described were raw need, raw fire, raw passion! I loved it! You have Elle- a woman who is a lawyer and living her life- her life that seems perfectly okay.. Yeah you have your issues here and there but she has a job, a place of her own and a friend with benefits that most would say is an exceptional catch! William- the lawyer/classmate/friend with benefits has all the "right" reasons to be "the man" for Elle but he's not the "it for her". Working together on a case she meets Nico.. Uh oh... The "it" has arrived and what the hell is she going to do?! So Mr. Nico who is the hot as hell, take your breath away client who is also a MMA fighter with "the fight" that changes his life and she was there.. Realizing that their pains are one in the same they embark on a crazy sensual and painful journey together and even parts of it apart to realize what they are to each other. This is where raw and real step,in.. It's not mushy, it's not falling in love over a week, it's not a big dramatic tadaaaa it's a word, a phrase, an argument that started off with good intentions turned terribly wrong! But they don't lose sight of each other or themselves through it all.. It's almost therapeutic. Their demons are issues that can be faced with by anyone and I like how Vi Keeland has made everything flow the way they did. Each action and each emotion I began to feel myself! I was sad and mad of Nico for that big fight, I was hurting and confused for Elle when she tried to be brave and expose her past to Nico to try and relate.. I liked the characters.. I liked that Elle wasn't a new little girl who's a virgin( we've had plenty stories like that) but a woman who's had real issues, real relationships be it just physical it's been what people go through.. This was an excellent book.. It's worth the Read!

whit whoo.....what a good read. I bought this at 6pm, started reading it at 9pm and actually finished it at 6.30am this morning. I
kept thinking I'll just read a few more pages and there I was about 5 pages from the end. It's a great book, I fell for Nico and he's about 30 years younger than I am. He's tattooed, built like the proverbial brick shed, cusses like a sailor and has a heart of gold. What the hell else could you want in a man. Did I forget to mention his eyes?

Is this a good book - oh yeah!
Do I recommend it - hell yeah!

4.0 out of 5 stars hot hot hot

This book is hot. Sex is hot, phone sex is hot, Elle is hot, Nico is verrrry hot. Hot book.

But something is missing. Yes, there is misery, angst and some suspence. But I felt a bit hungry for more digging into this grief.

We're talking about 2 injured lost souls who find each other and become 1.

Both "trying to keep the real out of their lives for fear what they might find."

And as Elle said very beautifuly in chapter 1 : "I'm a character in my story, going through chapters of my life as if it was written by an imaginary person, when I should be the author."

So part from this missing point I'd like to have read, this book reads like a river. It never stops, never needed a break neither, Just very fluent reading, with funny moments & words I highlighted.

It's romantic, it's hard ( oh, let's put a pun ! ) , it's more than just grief, it's violent, it's sexy.

It was Worth the Read !

Elle is a lawyer and her life is good. She has a nice, polite and sweet boyfriend and a good job. Ok, her man does not make her go all crazy, but he is polite.... nice and, well, boring!
When he introduced her his new client, MMA fighter Nico Hunter she has a hard time concentrating on anything else then the sexy man in front of her.
Nico Hunter is likes this lawyer ... a lot and wants more from her than just a legal advice. So he goes for her and gets her.
But both have demons that hunt them, that make it difficult to live with someone, to trust and to be happy, both need to heal and their love is their savior.

I really liked both characters a lot.
Elle is a real woman, strong, broken but wonderful. Nico is a real man all sexy and sweet, cool and hot and broken.
I enjoyed their honesty, their will to fight for each other, how they both know and accept the fact that they are made for each other. Both say what they fell and they never give up on each other.
I really enjoyed the read.

If you are looking into other book about MMA fighters I highly recommend
Real (The REAL series) .

Enjoy the read MBTM

This is the first book I've read from this author. I did enjoy Worth the Fight but I will admit I struggled a bit at the beginning, I wasn't too sure I liked that h all that much. She did grow on me as the book progressed thankfully or the rating would have been much lower.
Nico was a hot, tattooed MMA fighter and Elle a lawyer and both characters had a tragic event in their past that they needed to overcome. I liked they had this in common but was a little frustrated when Nico's response was to shut Elle out and as soon as he snaps out of it, she takes him back.
The pace and writing style are fast and the epilogue was a bit like another chapter or short story, a continuous glimpse into their future and I loved it! I'll continue with the series as I'd like to see how Vinnie's story plays out.

I am easily distracted. I bought this book almost a year ago, started it….then it ending up in the “DNF cozI got distracted by something shiny” pile.

I do that a lot, but I do go back and I can say I am so glad I did. I’m not sure what caused me to stop reading coz I enjoyed Elle and Nico’s story very much.

Two troubled souls who could heal each other. I loved their connection and how each brought what the other needed.
