"Camden takes readers on a breathless ride..."--RT Book Reviews

In the shadow of the nation's capital, Kate Livingston's respectable life as a government worker is disrupted by an encounter with the insufferable Trevor McDonough, the one man she'd hoped never to see again. A Harvard-trained physician, Trevor never showed the tiniest flicker of interest in Kate, and business is the only reason he has sought her out now.

Despite her misgivings, Kate agrees to Trevor's risky proposal to join him in his work to find a cure for tuberculosis. As Kate begins to unlock the mysteries of Trevor's past, his hidden depths fascinate her. However, a shadowy enemy lies in wait and Trevor's closely guarded secrets are darker than she ever suspected.

As revelations from the past threaten to destroy their careers, their dreams, and even their lives, Trevor and Kate find themselves in a painfully impossible situation. With everything to lose, they must find the strength to trust that hope and love can prevail over all.

"Kate and Trevor challenge each other to aspire to greater heights in this captivating, emotionally charged journey through America's past. Romantic tension balances perfectly with a plot energized by medical intrigue, making for a truly satisfying whole."

"Camden has penned a truly eloquent Christian romance from start to finish. Everything here is top notch: the writing, the detailed characterization, the historical setting, and the tender romance that will resonate with readers. The dialogue between the two main characters is not only fabulously smart, but playfully witty."

Elizabeth Camden is best known for her historical novels set in gilded age America featuring clever heroines and richly layered storylines. Before she was a writer, she was an academic librarian at some of the largest and smallest libraries in America, but her favorite is the continually growing library in her own home. With Every Breath by Elizabeth Camden was so captivating that once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down until I finished it... less than 24 hours later.
As a nursing student, I found Elizabeth Camden's presentation of tuberculosis - and the fight to control it - fascinating. She clearly did a generous amount of research before writing, and you'll feel the authenticity as you read. The limitations of the medical staff due to the lack of technology are evident, but so are the brilliance of the doctors that work with the patients. The stresses of hospital politics and political strain are also included, making the book even more accurate. The main characters have a unique past relationship, and the author wrote in just the right amount of electricity between them. The romantic attraction was nearly tangible. The personality and character flaws -- "You only love when it's easy" -- of the main character are ones I could relate to, and I saw myself in the leading lady more than once. I believe most readers will find these characters utterly likeable and fun to read about.
My favorite thing about this book is that the author dedicated her writing space to primarily the two main characters, and not a lot of supporting characters and "extras." Almost every chapter is dedicated to their interaction with each other. I really liked how this stretched and elongated the reading experience. Usually when I sit down with a book my favorite parts are when the main characters interact together. Fortunately, this author captures that thought and turns it into an entire book. I finally got exactly what I wanted! Nearly every scene was these two relating to each other in some way.
Bottom line: With Every Breath is an absolute must read. I've read every book of Elizabeth Camden's that has been published by Bethany House, so I knew I was in for the night when I began it. Grab a hot tea, your favorite afghan, and dim the lights. You won't want to get up for anything. In fact, I loved it so much I believe I will actually read it again.
Normally, right here is where I include a disclaimer saying that I received the book for free in exchange for a review. Not here! I am such a fan of Elizabeth Camden, I pre-ordered this one and had it delivered to my door by Amazon Prime on the day of release. So you see? I do put my money where my mouth is.

Every book that I have read by ELIZABETH CAMDEN has blown me away. She is a phenomenal writer AND storyteller. There are those that write well, and those that create a good plot. But it’s those that can do both that produce a novel that a reader gets wrapped up in and will remember for a long times.

Kate Livingston is intelligent and ambitious. Hesitant, she gives in and accepts an offer for a job from the insufferable Trevor McDonough. A man she hasn’t seen since their high school days.

Trevor McDonough is good at keeping his distance from those that might hurt his wounded heart. That goes double for Kate Livingston. If she knew the secret he carried, she would think twice about the attraction she has for him.

As always, ELIZABETH CAMDEN produced a novel that is not only entertaining, but enlightening. I am not only left with a warm feeling you get from reading an amazing story, but filled with a new sense of knowledge and understanding about a subject I may not have pursued on my own.

WITH EVERY BREATH by ELIZABETH CAMDEN is not a novel you want to miss. I loved the characters growth. MS. CAMDEN does an amazing job transforming Trevor. Only a remarkable writer can do what MS. CAMDEN did with his character, and still have the reader loving him.

There is no question that when I spot an ELIZABETH CAMDEN novel, I will be reading it in the near future.

I enjoyed rereading this historical romance. The historical aspect is very well written, and I also liked the main characters.

Elizabeth Camden's writing is excellent. This is a well written book with an interesting premise and interesting characters. It has a good message, but it's not preachy.

This is my favorite of all of Elizabeth Camden's books--so far. I was worried about the TB story, knowing that a cure was still many, many years distant. However, I decided to read it anyway, and I'm glad I did. Kate and Trevor were a match in every way--stubborn and smart.... Their hard-headed romance was engaging and completely understandable. There was also a mystery thrown in, which brought out some of the difficult and challenging ethical questions medical researchers face. Things can go horribly wrong, no matter how much a person may be trying to do right.

I do hope that the author will decide to write a book with pure, clean enjoyment in mind. While I enjoy the classics, sometimes a really light hearted novel is just what the doctor ordered. Not all books need to be so informative or intense. Just well written, which this author has proven herself very capable of.

ah, what a wonderful book! if, like me, you thoroughly enjoyed elizabeth camden's first books but not into the whirlwind, you should definitely read this book as ms camden is back on form.

the hero is a doctor with a troubled past and an obsession with finding a cure for tb. the heroine used to be in school with him, and the two of them were never friends but rather were always in competition as the best students in their school. years later, after she is widowed, he needs a statistician for his research and offers her the job. the two of them from then on work shoulder to shoulder for months.

it takes the heroine a little while to warm up to him, as he was quite an unlikeable character in school, however once she does she readily admits to herself that she has fallen in love. he knows he is attracted to her from the start, but feels (due to a dark secret which i won't reveal...) that he cannot let himself love her.

as this is christian fiction, the resolution comes not through sexually charged encounters but rather through talking, being together and thinking about their life.

this is a lovely book, a lovely story and lovely characters. well worth a read!
