About the Author
In the autumn of 1970, after a brief acting career on Broadway and with various guest appearances on American TV shows, The Partridge Family catapulted David Cassidy to fame. Aged just 20, his face was on the cover of every teenage magazine. He became an international pop star. In 1974, his exhausting schedule took its toll on the quality of his life. David retired but has, since the 1990s, regularly appeared in and produced musicals in the States, and toured live - with Donny Osmond in particular - to appreciative audiences, particularly in the UK. He is happily married and has two children.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2008The book arrived on Saturday around 1-ish, and I opened it after dinner. I finished it by 7:30 pm Monday night. I could not put it down! I, the web addict did not turn on my PC, except to check messages during the entire time I was engrossed in the book! And totally engrossed I was!
It's an honest open account of David's life. It's well written and keeps the reader engaged. What I mean by that is that you get the information, the story in good detail but not so much that you get bored. Seriously, I felt that a 13-16 year old me was right there with David on the set, on the stage and behind the scenes.
Reading about his painful childhood made me just want to reach out and give the guy a big old hug.
I have not read the first book, but I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who gazed into those bedroom eyes that graced those posters so long ago.
I enjoyed the snippets from other people that were put into the book. Loved Henry Diltz' (who I admire as a photographer), account of the photo that Gina Lollobrigida shot of David. Nude with all of that fruit....LOL!
The only thing that did bother me is that I would have liked him to explain in better detail his relationship with Katie. I was a bit confused by a few gaps there:
1) He says he was hit with a paternity suit, and that he borrowed money to pay support, but did not elaborate further. Was he there for the birth of the child? Was he part of her life? Did he have visitation when she was young?
2) He does mention Katie near the end of the book. Says that they have had a good relationship for the past few years, that he supported her financially until she was 19, but still does not really elaborate.
3) He speaks of Beau's birth as if he were becoming a father for the first time...left me kind of wondering just what the deal was with Katie.
But then maybe his daughter and her mom were not comfortable with him discussing such details publically? If that were the case, it would have nice for him to just say so instead of leaving gaps in that story that may leave the reader confused.
That is my only gripe about it. If you were, as my mom used to say 'Cassidy crazy' back in those glorious days of old then order this book and read it!
It will take you back...(let's face it..we are all either in our 50's or nearing that age and our memories ain't so hot anymore...).
It will also let you see beyond the cute buns in the white jumpsuit and into the young man who wore it.
It will take you on the roller coaster ride that was David Cassidy's life. What a ride it seems it was.....super highs and rocky lows. Made me happy to have led a 'normal' life.
It will let you see David Cassidy as he is now...as we all are now..older, wiser, settled.
An awesome read...go for it!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2007I grew up in Arabia, Germany, and Africa through the 1960s and first few years of the 1970s. TV was non-existent and popular radio featured light jazz or nightclub-style piano music plus a smattering of recycled 1950s BBC radio programs. So I missed almost the entire David Cassidy phenomenon. As a teenager I caught him once only, on a BBC TV program called Top of the Pops. David had just arrived at London's Heathrow Airport and he performed a song on the tarmac before rushing off to some engagement. I remember thinking the song was weak, but the performer was phenomenal. Back in those days in which everyone and their dog seemed to be dressing up and playing "let's pretend" (and yes, I do mean you, among many others, Mr. Bowie...) here was a young man who had the ability to communicate directly and whose singing voice, even after a transatlantic flight, was highly personal and very professional.
My family then went to Spain so I never saw David Cassidy after that; by the time we returned his star had faded and my future lay peripherally in the orbit of people like Jeff Beck. Years later I came across a David Cassidy album and played a few songs. I was impressed by the artistry and one song, "I Am A Clown" had a haunting quality about it that stuck in my mind. But I wasn't really his target market, and besides I was moving into madrigals, Bach cantatas, fourteenth-century polyphony, and eventually 20th century composers like Shostakovitch and Prokofiev.
But... Fast forward to earlier this month. A friend of mine in the UK happened to mention that she'd just read a book written by a teen idol she'd had a crush on back in the early 1970s. His name was David Cassidy. I looked on the 'net and there it was and there he was - now in his fifties but still with that direct, optimistic look that I remembered from the one and only time I'd seen him on television when he sung his song on the tarmac at Heathrow. Gambling a few dollars, I bought the book.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about David Cassidy is that he seems to be the kind of person most people would really enjoy having in their lives. No doubt he has omitted the less salubrious aspects of this life, and no doubt he has his quirks and imperfections. But all in all he comes across as painfully honest, decent, and - dare I say it - nice. He describes his roller-coaster life without settling scores or whining. And his life really has been an astonishing journey. A young man, with no intellectual foundation and a painful family background, was thrown into the maelstrom of super-stardom and then, at the height of his fame, he left the stage of his own volition and over the coming years descended into a personal hell.
In a way, the David Cassidy of this book is an archetype. Take every rock-n-roller fantasy you've ever imagined and then turbo-charge it and you still wouldn't get close to what he experienced. Amazingly, the David Cassidy who shines through in this book is now a reasonably well-balanced, thoughtful, and basically good person. Not many of us would fare so well in the face of the experiences he went through, and very few of us would escape the insidious corruption of the soul that comes from such fame and its attendant power, all experienced at a very young age. I ended up greatly admiring both the young and naive David Cassidy and also the mature man who wrote this book. Of course part of it is self-justification, self-portrayal. He's eager for us to know that he has real talent. If this were a book by someone else, much of the references to his talent would result in the reader becoming irritated; but in this book I think we end up sympathizing. And listening to some of those old songs confirms the claim: he really is a talented performer. It's this talent than enabled him to exert force of will to recover from the ultimate in "Career Over" post-idol job death.
I finished the book knowing that while I'll never meet David Cassidy, the world is just a little bit of a better place for his presence in it. I imagine he will continue to bring pleasure to his many fans for years to come, and I would also imagine that most people who read this book - even if, like me, they aren't David Cassidy fans - will feel the same way. The book may not be literature and its style of writing may be simplistic, but it's a genuine and genuinely touching account of an astonishing life and a decent human being. It's also an excellent "what to avoid" manual for any aspiring performer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab-u-lous!
I loved this book - it was so honest - it pulled no punches about the pit falls of fame and the roller coaster of stardom and then the plunge into depression and the fight to get back up there again. He takes us on that journey- through the Partridge Family days when he became a massive heart throb and got mobbed by teenage girls constantly- to the death of a young fan who was crushed to death at one of his concerts and the devastating affect that had on him. And then appearing partially naked on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in order to show his edgier side and to try and cultivate a more adult audience. There is much in the book - it is so interesting on so many levels. I always thought of him as being a pretty, clean cut guy when I was a kid. He was part of my childhood. You were either into the Osmonds or David Cassidy - interestingly both American exports. I was more of an Osmonds fan - though I was very aware of David Cassidy. This book has opened me up to who he really was. It's a unique insight. He was an amazing guy and I'm so sorry that he succumbed to alcoholism once more at the end of his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars You shoud definitely get this book.
To be continued…、
というところで、お話の続きはぜひお手元で。

5.0 out of 5 stars Unglaublich ehrlich geschrieben
RIP

5.0 out of 5 stars Could it be Forever? My Story
I loved this book, it kept my attention and I read it in 2 days. I will re-read it again at a later date. It seemed very honest and told the truth about David’s life. His struggles and his glory. I Loved the Partridge Family and still watch the Re-runs, only now they have more meaning. The excerpts from his Brothers and Friends were most interesting. The words from his Son at the end of the book brought me to Tears.
David Cassidy was a very in depth Man, a beautiful Singer and a Wonderful Actor. He had it all. He is certainly missed and I was very saddened to hear of his passing. My only wish would have been that he had been on better terms with his Son, although Parents and Children have a bond that is so unbreakable, just look at how David made peace with his Father. I loved your Acting on the Partridge Family and the other shows you had Guest Shots on before that. I Loved the time you were on the Glen Campbell Hour, you were so Cute and your Singing ability really showed. Your songs are timeless, I love your Partridge Family Songs and the Songs you sang after the show ended. The Puppy Song and Daydreamer, Cherish and all the rest. Thank you for the insight into the Life of David Cassidy, and you were my Teen Idol, I must be as honest as you. ❤️
