Unhinged: A Splintered Novel (Splintered Series Book 2) Kindle Edition
Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole. She was crowned Queen of the Red Court and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the boy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly appealing Morpheus. Now all she has to do is graduate high school.
That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.
Could she leave Jeb and her parents behind again, for the sake of a man she knows has manipulated her before? Will her mother and Jeb trust her to do what’s right? Readers will swoon over the satisfying return to Howard’s bold, sensual reimagining of Carroll’s classic.
“I really enjoyed the first book of this series, but Unhinged cranks the Wonderland experience up to 11. It’s just . . . WOW! The last few scenes dangle Alyssa’s next adventure with shockers enough that I found my jaw needing a bit of assistance in coming off the floor. Write quickly, A. G. Howard! I need that next book!”—USA Today
“Howard excels in sensory and sensuous descriptions.” —Kirkus Reviews
“As intense, dark, and weird as the first volume, this worthy sequel creates a parallel narrative that brings the action out of Wonderland and into Alyssa’s hometown.” —The Bulletin of The Center for Children’s Books
“A dark beauty fills the novel's pages, which will mesmerize teens with a taste for magic, romance or suspense. Unhinged lays the groundwork for a third book where anything could happen—it is Wonderland, after all.” —Shelf Awareness

Review
Readers who appreciate a gothic love triangle, body modification, eerie art, and brooding-artist types will enjoy this colorful but creepy offering and await the next installment.
-- "Kirkus Reviews"Once again, Howard expands the Alice in Wonderland fairy tales to imagine a terrifying backstory full of sinister toys, talking flowers and insects, and a Jeb/Morpheus/Alyssa love triangle-made more interesting with the addition of wealthy Ivy Raven. The Wonderland magic and perverse violence is nicely juxtaposed with a typical high-school senior year.

About the author

A.G. Howard was inspired to write SPLINTERED while working at a school library. She always wondered what would've happened had the subtle creepiness of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland taken center stage, and she hopes her darker and funkier tribute to Carroll will inspire readers to seek out the stories that won her heart as a child.
When she's not writing, A.G.'s pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening, and family vacations which often include impromptu side trips to 18th century graveyards or condemned schoolhouses to appease her overactive muse.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2014This book. Oh my gosh this book! It was so so so good and such a worthy follow up to the awesome that was Splintered. I love love love this Alice in Wonderland retelling. From the world to the action to the characters, everything about it is just fantastic. There are so many twists and turns and I never see anything coming. I loved every single second of this book. I started reading it before bed one night and ended up staying up all night to finish it because I was addicted.
Alyssa is such a wonderful heroine. I love her! I love her because she is strong but still afraid but courageous in spite of that fear. She tries to ignore her responsibilities and be normal, but you can’t even fault her for doing so. It’s scary and life would be easier if she didn’t have to deal with any of the nonsense. But when push comes to shove, she does what needs to be done. This book sees Alyssa discover herself. She transforms a great deal over the course of this book. She has to come to terms with her netherling side, while still keeping touch with her human one. It’s not an easy thing to balance, but Alyssa does her best.
Then there is Jeb and I have such a soft spot for Jeb. He really is incredibly sweet and kind and clearly loves Alyssa with all his heart. I love their sweet moments together and I love their relationship. It was so hard to see Jeb not knowing Alyssa’s true side or remembering any of the crazy things they did.
Then there is Morpheus and I will admit it, I have a blind spot a mile wide when it comes to Morpheus. I pretty much overlook anything he does mostly because underneath it all there are good intentions there. He is, hands down, my favorite character in the books, if not one of my favorite characters ever. I want him and Alyssa to get a happily ever after in the worst way possible. I love their relationship because they stand on equal footing. He is always pushing Alyssa to be stronger because he knows she is. He knows she is capable of greatness and he wants to see her shine. “Game, set, match. Ever, and always, my equal.” Morpheus is darkly charming and manipulative at times and he is not your normal hero, but I love him all the same. “There is nothing black and white about Morpheus. He’s a chaotic portrait made of every shade of gray.”
This is how you know it is a wonderful love triangle, because I have nothing but good things to say about both love interests. Don’t get me wrong, I’m backing Morpheus 100% but I have no desire to see Jeb hurt. I read the books rooting for Morpheus and wanting him to win. However, at the same time when something happens to threaten Jeb and Alyssa’s relationship, it still makes my heart hurt. I love them both and I can see how Alyssa could be torn and that is what makes the love triangle work.
Like Splintered, the plot in Unhinged takes twists and turns the entire time. I love characters and then I hate them and then characters I hated I end up loving. I never know where I stand with these books and that makes them fantastic. I never know who is pulling the strings and who is just a puppet. I love a book that keeps me on my toes. Unhinged takes the madness that is Wonderland and brings it into our world. And while I did miss taking a trip through Wonderland, it was also awesome to see Wonderland seep into our world. It also added the drama of hiding the madness from the rest of the world. Not such an easy thing to do.
The ending to Unhinged left me dying for more and waiting for Ensnared is going to drive me mad. I absolutely loved the journey that was Unhinged. I got another wild ride, a ton more Morpheus, more Wonderland madness, and no middle book syndrome to be found. I could not have asked for more from this sequel.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2014First of all, I have to bring attention to this cover. It's absolutely gorgeous, and fits this book so incredibly well!!! Plus, it's Morpheus, and you just can't beat that! Moving on...
This was an absolutely fantastic sequel to Splintered. Alyssa thought she was finished with Wonderland, but it's definitely not finished with her. It's 1 year later, and Alyssa is dealing with her Mom, freshly released from the asylum, and a boyfriend, Jeb who doesn't remember a thing. Alyssa is torn between telling him the truth or continue living the lie, when a certain someone pops back into her life. Ms. Howard weaves such a vivid, beautiful tale that is not only completely original and unique, but a fantastic thrill ride that never lets you go. You are drawn into the story from the very first page, and you never want to stop reading. The words flow effortlessly off the page, and it showcases Ms. Howard's extreme talent for writing. This book answers some major questions we had in Splintered, but creates even more questions just waiting to be answered in the next book. All I can say, is that I am so thankful this series is going to have another book because I couldn't give this series up yet, and there is still so much more to explore.
Alyssa definitely grows into a stronger main character in this book. Even though she doubts herself and her feelings, she still is kick-ass as ever. She fights until the very end, and I can't wait to see her plans are in the next book. One thing that I love about her character is her realistic nature. She is incredibly relatable, and even with all the craziness around her, she still faces things that a normal teenage girl would...like finding herself torn between 2 boys. Even though I was torn between Jeb and Morpheus in the last book (still leaning more toward Morpheus), I am so completely for Alyssa ending up with Morpheus!!! Morpheus shows us, and Alyssa, a different side in this novel, and boy is it good. He shows just how far he is willing to go, and how much he is willing to sacrifice for the girl he is infatuated with. And some of his secrets are revealed. I loved learning more about him, and I hope everything works out in the end.
My heart broke in the last chapter of this book for multiple reasons; one of those being because it was the end, and I NEED more! I need to know where this story is going, and what is going to happen to these characters that I've become so attached to. What is Alyssa's plan?! How is everything going to work out?! I highly recommend this book to any fan of the first novel, you won't be disappointed. This is a surefire hit, and I can't wait to see what Ms. Howard has in store for us next. I just hope we don't have to wait too long! Happy reading :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible la entrega

5.0 out of 5 stars Otimo estado

5.0 out of 5 stars A little bit of realistic madness
Of course I loved visiting Wonderland in the first book, but I think I loved it even more now the elements of Wonderland were making an appearance in our world. It became a wonderful mix of the human realm and the madness of Wonderland and watching those characters being so out of place was a true joy. I can't wait to read the last book!
