Turning Fat into Love: Downsize Your Body by Supersizing Your Mind & Heart Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 38 ratings

If you struggle with your weight, you know that most weight-loss programs focus on getting more exercise or following a strict, high-maintenance diet. The problem is that changing habits from the outside just doesn’t last for most people. In Turning Fat into Love, Dutch dietician and nutritionist Pauline Kerkhoff explains that it is impossible to become happier and healthier by depriving yourself or judging yourself, but that love will transform you from the inside out. By learning how to take care of yourself first by “supersizing your heart” and “growing your brain,” Kerkhoff’s proven, transformative weight-loss program will equip you to lose not only your physical weight but your emotional and spiritual weight as well—and keep it off for good.

"A down-to-earth approach to weight loss that begins with loving oneself.
Even a cursory glance at bookstore shelves will reveal a glut of self-help and diet books, and it can be difficult for readers to wade through the competing theories. Kerkhoff, however, has discovered a new way to slim down, not by cutting out a particular food or exercising until you drop, but by listening to the real emotional needs beneath the cravings. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as a young woman, Kerkhoff became motivated to take care of herself by drawing emotional strength from the love of others and, eventually, her love for herself. The wisdom she's gleaned from her own experience may be useful to many, regardless of whether they're looking to lose weight. The first step in Kerkhoff's program is to become your "authentic" self by truly engaging with the world and your feelings at any given moment. Once you participate in the present moment, she says, you can form meaningful relationships. Other steps include retraining your brain to frame setbacks in a positive light, taking responsibility for your circumstances and setting a course of action to improve them, managing the fear of failure, and exercising your mind. What sets Kerkhoff's approach apart from others is her philosophy that the self responds best to love and gentleness, not criticism and hatred: "I don't want you to feel deprived; I want you to feel fulfilled. I don't want you to feel scared; I want you to feel confident. I don't want you to feel alone; I want you to always feel good in your own company. Because it matters. It is practice."
A debut diet book with an effective method and a warm heart."

Turing Fat Into Love is a wonderful journey that moved me with inspiration, and hope of a better tomorrow.
Pauline Kerkhoff understands women. Through her daily struggles , and continuos positive outlook I found myself feeling , and being stronger in my daily world.
My favorite line , the one sentence that struck home with me. The passage that left me sittting up in my bed late one night., as if these magicial words I was reading were just for me . Was; page 27 paragraph two. It reads.
*****It is time that your appearence becomes more congruent with your shinning self. Grow inside and loose the weight outside. You can create progress and success only if you accept that you are responsible for the results you have in your life. Not anyone or anything else. You.*****
First...This moved me to tears. Second..Then to action! And saying to myself Christine! Its time for a change!
I did everything suggested by the Author for the rest of the book. I am proud and honored to say I have lost and kept off thirty-three pounds !
My moutain of life that I have never given up on climbing... Became less of a challenge, and more of a blessing. Taking just a step of hope everyday. Believing in myself, and with Pauline Kerkhoffs loving advice along my way, I was sure to be Victorious! I am loving the inside out transformation!
Hail to the Author! Her book is now my most cherished gift I give my friends whenever I can.
A must Read! Five Stars!

Turning Fat Into Love is helping me transform my views and create a healthy relationship with food. The journey has begun. Highly recommend if you want to learn what it truly means to live a healthy lifestyle and stop the incessant feelings of guilt.

As a health coach, I know that the answer to permanent weight loss isn't the latest fad diet or mega-hard exercise program. Those are answers that only last as long as your willpower (hint: till maybe Tuesday afternoon or so). It starts with loving yourself and your body enough to treat yourself right. But how do you do that? "Turning Fat into Love" provides practical and workable answers. Step by step, you can change how you think about your self, your body, and your health. Pauline knows how - she's done it! And she TELLS you how for yourself!

This book inspired me to make it to my exercise class and crave a healthy lunch. Balanced nutritional concepts are interspersed with wisdom about loving yourself and your body and creating the best life possible. This is a life manual for abundance, not another restrictive diet. And Pauline's story of overcoming MS to achieve her dreams is moving and inspirational.

No, it’s not just another diet book which tells you to eat less and exercise more! It goes much deeper than that to help you to uncover the real reasons why you’ve put on weight, are overeating, or generally abusing your body. What makes “Turning Fat Into Love” particularly powerful is that Pauline shares her own inspiring journey with us; diagnosed with MS as a young woman and believing she would never have a future, she has gone on to get married, have two children, get divorced and cope with her own weight issues whilst becoming a successful business woman helping others with similar challenges. It’s a ‘warts and all’ tale which shows her humanity and compassion and that she really understands. She emphasizes the importance of having supporters around us on our journey who will hold us accountable and cheer us on and if there’s no-one there for you right now, Pauline is cheering you wildly from the sidelines throughout the book. There’s no guilt trip or blame but an admonishment to take responsibility and bring the control back where it belongs – with each and every one of us. Her mantra is “Be a victor, not a victim” and she helps her readers face up to reality through her stories, her motivational information as well as her probing questions and exercises.
Pauline believes that if we can truly learn to love ourselves then we will be able to tap into our unlimited potential and be the person we are meant to be, without the excess weight or unhealthy eating habits and at that point, anything is possible. But it’s not all self-help and inner-wisdom in this book; there are also clear, practical tips and techniques about nutrition and body movement to help you move forward and be a new you. The way we think and behave have a direct link to the way we look so Pauline gently encourages us to re-think those behaviours and choose more empowering thoughts to gets us to our goals. It’s an inspiring fresh look at what is, for some of us, an old problem.
If you’re ready to take the challenge and are willing to start making the necessary changes, with the help of this book, you can make 2015 the year you get the body you’ve always wanted.
