This Is Ridiculous, This Is Amazing: Parenthood in 71 Lists Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 178 ratings

“Hands down, the best humor book about family life I have ever read.” —Nikki Knepper, author of Moms Who Drink and Swear

Comedian/blogger/family man Jason Good delivers a laugh-out-loud reminder that everything is easier and more fun when approached with a sense of humor—especially parenting. Each list in this book captures a perfect (or perfectly terrible) aspect of parenthood while at the same time wholeheartedly embracing every moment: “You Deserve a Break” offers ideas for downtime, such as giving blood and untangling cords, while “Self-Help from a Three-Year-Old” collects such wisdom as “If you fall down, stay down. Someone will pick you up eventually.” Sweet, sincere, and painfully funny,
This is Ridiculous, This is Amazing is ideal for parents who could use a laugh—and isn’t that every single one of them?

“His blog is great, but his first book is even better.” —

“Parents will appreciate Good’s offbeat outlook and quirky one-liners.” —

Read this book if you have kids anywhere from age, say, 2 to 9, and want to pee in your pants laughing. Not only did I, but I actually read parts of it out loud with my kids (8 and 3) one night, and we all did together—it was awesome! Jason Good is hi-larious! - See more at: http://laurieprim.com/index.php/category/favorite-books/#sthash.NN4vKYXA.dpuf

This isn't a parenting book that happens to be funny--it's an instant comedy classic that just happens to be about parenting. While making fun of one's kids and parenting is quickly becoming ubiquitous and overdone, "This is Ridiculous, This is Amazing" transcends the genre and stands apart as something special. Like Louis CK, Jason Good possesses the ability to make us laugh in recognition of those thoughts we all have as parents by approaching them from completely innovative and unexpected angles, and like CK, he is able to do this by establishing his credentials as a father with the audience--this is a guy who obviously loves his kids and family, and the time he has spent in the trenches earns him the right to comment on the ridiculousness he observes.

This is one of the rare books I have read that is literally laugh-out-loud funny. I would recommend it to anyone who has ever had kids, but especially those who are in the middle of surviving very young ones. If, like me, you use your time in the "reading room" as a five minute refuge to hide from your kids, you're going to love having this book in there with you. Each of the 71 entries is funnier than the last--reading 2-3 of these lists is a perfect way to start off your day and a reminder that you are not alone.

As a mother of 2 toddler boys this book hit home for me in all aspects of life! It was a perfect read for someone who doesn't have time to read. It is in list format so if I have 2 seconds for a great laugh, I could pick it up and not have to worry where I left off! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever had kids, been around kids, was ever a kid once, etc. loved loved loved this book! Please make another one!

Here’s why you should buy this book: People like Jason Good deserve to get paid to be professional writers. This guy is funny—absolutely—but he’s also modeling what it’s like to be a good human being (and we need more of that these days). He’s a loving dad with a great sense of humor, an understanding husband who doesn’t undervalue his partner. As someone who has been a parent for nine years, myself, I’ve found that family life can be summed up perfectly with Good’s own words: “…even suffering is kind of fun when we do it together.”

From travel tips to games that might let you nap, creative cursing to things he’ll miss when his kids grow up, the reasons why he’s fat now to the many uses of baby wipes, and the made-me-cackle-out-loud kindergarten spelling section, he’s making himself the malleable victim of his jokes, without making himself look a fool—or like a bad dad. In this book? Everybody wins.

Jason Good’s book was a fresh, fun read that reminded me I’m not alone in either my kid-induced madness or adoration of the little ones who make me that way. I can’t wait to read whatever he writes next.

I am a fan of the author, and this book looked cute so I bought it for my husband. But I had no idea that we would end up dying with laughter as we read it together moments after it arrived. For new parents, it'll make you feel less alone…for seasoned parents, it's like he's been living in your house with you. Just make sure to rip out the list about how to tell your wife's been drinking. Hilarious. Great gift. Real…unpretentious…loved every page.

We were gearing up for a day out with the kids when my husband grabbed this book, put it in his cargo shorts pocket and said "I might need this if things start to get sideways!". It is not only hilarious but a great spin on putting some of those crazy parenting moments in to perspective! Also, my husband and I feel much better knowing that many things we experience (i.e. first kid: all organic food, second kid: crackers) go on in other people's houses!! Buy the book, you'll laugh out loud and maybe even lighten up (if you need to:).

As a father of 2 young children this book rings so true for me. This book captures the spirit of parenting - the humor, joy and frustration, which are often simultaneous. Topics in the book range from what it is like to take children camping or on an airplane to how your parenting evolves from your 1st child to your 2nd child, and many more.

Perfect for anyone in the throes of parenting who might want a little perspective on the joy and humor of being a parent. This should be required reading for Sex Ed classes.

A great baby shower gift. I read through a few of the first lists and there were several laugh out loud moments.
It seems like one you would pick and put down, reading a few entries at a time for a giggle. A bit long to sit down and take in the whole thing.
Jason Good does a great job of capturing the strange, intimate, wonderful, gross, and life-altering moments of being a parent.

I have been reading Jason Good for awhile now and this book just made my afternoon ( I was able to find time to read today). This is a book every one with kids needs to read, I laughed and even cried a bit ( that might be because I stepped in food from breakfast that I was sure I cleaned up TWICE already). Enjoy!!

I bought this for my husband for Fathers Day after having followed Jason on FB for a while now. His writing is so funny but also sweet, and so much of it is so true to our life with small children. It made me laugh out loud from the first page, great to dip in and out of especially when the kids are driving you crazy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly captures how mind-blowingly great and face-palmingly horrendous the day-to-day parenting ride is.

Good is a talented comedian. His work has that essential element of being totally recognizable, but articulated hilariously. I could feel all the other parents who have this book laughing (and sometimes almost crying!) along with me.

A great book to have around the house, and a great gift for any parent(s).
