- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2021This author writes intelligible and plainly that the clarity of her themes just flow. This author is one of a few when I read I feel like I'm watching a movie or play. She was my first favorite author.
The forgiveness theme was my favorite, depression, dyslexia, and sisters estranged but loving. What a great way to spend a Saturday evening.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2019What's so great about Kimberla's style of writing is that it's easy to forget you're reading fiction - the characters and the storyline literally come to life! In this story, she made Alexis and her struggles so relatable. The significant life lessons in this story as equally powerful. As I prepare for my first Christmas without my Dad, Alexis' journey helps me to be strong and allow myself to feel however I feel, and know it's okay to move forward in my life. Even in the midst of grief and sadness.
Another phenomenal reading experience!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2014This was my first time reading the work of Kimberla Lawson Roby, and I will probably venture to read more of her titles later on. Immediately, I found Ms. Roby's writing style to be very easy and it held my attention from the very beginning all the way to the conclusion. The chapters were short and the pace of the story line kept you reading quickly and willingly. This was such a refreshing aspect from others that I have recently read. It is certainly a work that can be read in a day or so.
As for the story, there is no doubt that annoying, insecure and overly-possessive future in-laws are problematic for anyone, but it was really great that the main character was made of such a wonderful fabric that she could stand her ground with her finance, not lose herself in highly charged situations with her future mother-in-law and still be respectful and understood. All the characters were basically real, likable, or somewhat familiar to everyone. Unfortunately, I was not especially pleased at the confrontation that took place between the mother and her son. I thought that it was tasteless, but perhaps the author felt that the character in the flow of this wrath was most likely to absorb the content and nature of her terrible ways among outsiders, those she believed to be highly impressed with her and her game.
This is my book club's selection for its next meeting and I am certain that it will be enjoyable and preferred over the selection from last month. At the end of the book, there are some excellent discussion questions which should be very helpful in stimulating readers for a lively and in-depth discussion of this book and the author.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2014Kimberla Lawson Roby has done it again!! This was an awesome book to read that truly focused on the real meaning of the Christmas holiday. I finished the book in one day because I just couldn't put it down. It is always nice to see how Kimberla works in Pastor Black into the non-Pastor Black series of books. I hope that we will see more of Alexis and Chase as their story was so realistic as far as how Geneva affected their relationship. This book brings about serious awareness of depression as well as the power of prayer and forgiveness. Kimberla did an excellent job of focusing on the true meaning of Christmas!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2015What an awesome book to help understand forgiveness. Kimberly Lawson Roby has not failed me yet on a good read. This book delved into understanding why people become over-protective and even greedy. She has displayed a unique relationship among friends and family
and how women are capable of being independent and submissive at the same time. Thank you!!!. It is almost as good One In A Million!!! What a great read for my Thanksgiving break. I rate this book a 9 1/2 out of ten... only because I wanted to know what became of Sabrina and her strong daughter and that trifling, cheating Melvin!😉
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019The Book Cover of “A Christmas Prayer” really caught my attention and also a beautiful Cover. This is the first book, “A Christmas Prayer” written by Kimberla Lawson Roby. She really created a wonderful Christmas Novella about the Christian romance between Alexis and Chase. They are truly in love with each other and about to planned their future together as husband and wife. There is one obstacles that may prevent that and it called the future mother-in-law from hell. Geneva who is Chase's mother and she doesn't like Alexis and don't think she isn't good enough for her son. The only thing Geneva wants is to end the relationship between Alexis and her son, Chase. This storyline is full with painful circumstances with the conflict between Alexis and Sabrina who are sisters. Every Seasons of Christmas, Alexis feel so empty due in the facts that she is mourning the death of her mother. She also have to deal with the drama with Geneva, the mother-in-law wants to avoid. Throughout the whole Christmas novel, Kimberla Lawson Roby created a wonderful character of Alexis who proves herself to be a classy lady. She didn't allowed anyone to take her out of character. Misery loves company and Alexis didn't want no part of it. She also offer to help Courtney who is Alexis niece.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2014I read this book in two days and I am usually not a book reader. First of all I love Kimberla she is an awesome writer. I seen the advertisement on Facebook that it was being offered on the kindle and I was like OMG, it was about 3:30am in the morning so I got my kindle placed and order and starting reading, I had to work later that morning so I kindly put the kindle down and left, but later when I got back home I remembered and picked it back up and before you knew I was finished, and I was mad because I read it so fast. Love the book and the author, anyone looking for something awesome to read pick up your copy you will not be disappointed.
