My Crochet Doll: A Fabulous Crochet Doll Pattern with Over 50 Cute Crochet Doll Clothes and Accessories Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 999 ratings

Make adorable crochet dolls with over fifty unique patterns for clothes and accessories.

With a range of clothing and accessory patterns, dress up your doll for home and abroad, from basic underwear and shoes to dresses, dungarees, sweaters, coats, and hats. As well as wardrobe essentials, you can create accessories to match each outfit, including a teddy for bedtime, a bucket for the beach, cakes for the kitchen, and even a penguin for the North Pole! There’s a range of dressing-up costumes, with an adorable bear suit and a fun superhero mask and cape. The cute mini suitcase pattern is the perfect for storing all of your dolls belongings and it doubles up as a bed too!

Be aware that crochet terms in the United States are different from those in the U.K. This can be confusing as the same terms are used to refer to different stitches under each system. All crochet patterns in this book are written in U.K. and European terms. U.S. crocheters must take care that they work the correct stitches. One way to tell which system is being used in other patterns is that the American system starts with a single crochet, which the U.K. system doesn't have; so patterns with “sc” in them can be identified as American patterns.

Lovely picture book - should be experienced crochet artist to use the book.
I love this book. First I want to say that as a picture book alone it is wonderful. I will say that if you don’t have a lot of experience this book may not be for you. There are a few errors or left out bits in the instructions and I did have to fumble around to figure out what to do next. I used YouTube to figure out the hair techniques because the instructions were not clear. My first dolly doesn’t have nearly as nice hair as the ones I made after.Personally I used the dolly pattern and then altered the clothing patterns into what I was going for so the pictures I posted are not actually in the book.Overall I love this book and would purchase it again. But again if you are not experienced you might get frustrated.

I love this book. It has soooo many cute accessories in it for the dolls. I haven't made anything yet, but I can't wait to start.

This book is amazing!
The doll, the outfit, all the small details are adorable and so we’ll thought out. I would love to have had something like this as a child, it’s definitely something you would keep forever with tons of memories.

This is the go-to guide for those interested in crochet dolls. The book is full of gorgeous photos of the doll and various items of her wardrobe. There's clothes and accessories for every occasion, including pajamas, a teddy bear, clothes for holiday, a raincoat and boots, superhero costume, even little undies. Too cute. The styles are easy to personalize and alter. The book as a whole is just precious. Technically, it is pretty sound as well. The first half is the gallery section (58 pages) mentioned above, followed by a few pages on actual crochet instructions written in UK crochet, meaning lengths and measurements are on the metric system and crochet terms are slightly different than US stitch names. This book is definitely for those who have some amigurumi or crochet doll experience. The instructions do not include photos so you'd already need to have a basic understanding of how to literally put the pieces together. The instructions are direct and brief. "Stuff the torso and the arms. Attach the eyes to the face." The yarns used for the book are from France, although I'm sure you could substitute yarns and get a bit of a variation. Materials needed for projects are things you'd probably already have: yarn, ribbon, buttons, thread, stuffing and crochet hooks. All in all, well worth buying if you love to crochet dolls of any kind.

I'm only posting this because I stupidly read the reviews after I already bought the book. However, I am still excited for it. Now, I am forwarned about the stitches and confusing things. So of course, I went to youtube. and found an awesome video that answers questions. so here you guys go, i'll update after I make it :)
EDIT: so I got the book and have since then used the pattern 4 times for the doll.
Good things: it looks adorable and the instructions are faulty straight forward. As long as you know how to work in the round and know up to I think a double crochet, there's no reason a beginner couldn't make these.

Bad things: it is not very detailed in some aspects and done of the instructions for pruning things together is confusing. One example is when you make the legs or pants. When you read it as is, it is setting up for there to be a hole. I managed to find a way that keeps to the stitch count and prevents that hole. Also when you get to the red riding hood pattern, more that it tells you rows 8-9 which is a HUGE typo. I did 19 rows and it turned out perfectly...ish. I'm now attempting again. You can't get the feet the way they show. It says to add a stitch for the ankle, but I can't think of how you do that to make an actual foot and she gives no real help. I am going to try using the shoe/sock pattern to get that look.

I have made the doll and the underwear only so far.

Pros: The patters are so cute. The little photo vignettes are adorable and made me want to MAKE ALL TEH THINGS!!! The different outfits are adorable and there are plenty of opportunities for customizing the doll and the outfits to suit one's fancy. The instructions (where they exist, more on that in the CONS section) are easy to follow and totally spot on. I have rarely found a crochet pattern book that was so well edited. If it says you should have 17 sts at the end of the row, and you don't, you can be certain it's because you missed something and not because of a stupid typo somewhere. (You can probably tell that this is a pet peeve of mine.)

CONS: No gauge is given. She tells you the weight of the yarn and the hook size she used, but if you have different yarn, you're on your own figuring out which hook to use to make things fit right. This was a big deal for me, because I already have so much accumulated yarn that I am absolutely not willing to go out and buy special yarn for these projects. The assembly and finishing instructions are very brief and lacking in detail. The pictures show many different styles of hair, but the instructions for attaching hair are so sparse as to be almost useless. There are really no instructions for the face at all. "Make a stitch for the nose," or something like that was pretty much all she gave. There was a similar "Make a stitch" instruction for giving the doll an ankle, but I didn't figure that one out at all and just skipped it.

The cons may outweigh the pros for some people, especially those less experienced with crochet or with doll-making, or both. In case anyone wonders, I used regular worsted weight yarn for the doll (I believe it was Red Heart), and a 4mm hook. I used a similar weight speciality yarn for the underwear and the same hook, and they fit perfectly. I used instructions from a different doll book I had to make and attach the hair, and I used the same book to come up with a reasonable face. (My daughter was kind of freaked out that the dolly didn't have a mouth, so I had to make her one.) If I find that any of the clothes do not fit with the same weight yarn and the same hook, I'll edit this review to include my variations.

So, my overall rating is probably closer to 3 1/2 stars, but I rounded up to 4 because my daughter loves her dolly and I had a great time making it.

**Edit: I have now made the pyjamas, the t-shirt (basic sweater pattern), and a few pairs of socks/shoes/boots. Since writing my original review, I have found a few possible editing issues. The sock/boot/shoe pattern is a bit weird, the Red Riding Hood dress is problematic, etc. Mostly (besides the RRH dress, which I have no clue what's going on there), I've been able to make the patterns work anyway. I'm dropping my review to 3, just because there are those little things in here that could blindside a relative newbie and I hate when that happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gorgeous pattern, but let down by it's editing.

I have made two dolls from this book now, alongside several outfits, and I have to say that I am very impressed by all of them so far. The pieces are gorgeous, well thought out, and the ease of customisation means there is no end to what you can make using this book. There is no hand holding here so I would only recommend this for intermediate and up.

Unfortunately there are a few minor issues that let it down slightly. The pattern can be vague at times and I feel like a few appropriate images would help to clear things up a little, e.g. instead of just saying "sew the ankles" a close up picture of the ankles so that we can see how to sew them would be appreciated. A photo of every garment alone next to it's pattern would be very nice too, just for clarities sake.

There are also a few mistakes on the patterns that should have been caught, e.g. the torso saying to "1dc in each dc" when the row before it had chain stitches. A beginner crocheter may think they need to skip the chains in this case when the chains are counted as a double crochet.
Also as this is a project worked in the round, I would highly recommend using an invisible decrease instead of the standard one shown in techniques.

Please understand though that these complaints are very nitpicky and will not bother many with experience crocheting 3D objects. I have highly recommend this book and think that this is a must have for anyone who likes cute crochet!
