A meddlesome mother is all that stands between her daughter and a rakish suitor in this unpredictable Regency romance from the award-winning author.

Cassandra Beringer would never allow her daughter Cicely to repeat her mistake and marry a man twenty years her senior--even if he is the handsome Viscount Ingelsby, considered by her sister to be the catch of the season. The memory of her own disastrous marriage to an older man still haunted her, despite her being widowed for many years. However, fate and a wet marble staircase interrupted her plans to keep Jeremy Ingelsby away from her only child. How will she stop them when she can't even remember her own name?

I enjoy this author's books. The main characters are Cassandra, Lady Beringer, her daughter,Cicely, and Jeremy Trent, Viscount Inglesby. Jeremy had been paying his addresses to Cicely for some time and was expected to offer for her and ask permission of her mother, but when the time came he suddenly felt like offering for her was entirely wrong. The story continues with an accident causing amnesia and an unexpected turn of events. It held my attention throughout and I highly recommend it.

I loved this book, but the heroine dragged her "misunderstanding" way too long. They should have resolved matters much earlier in the book. My emotions were like a yo-yo.

I am not a Regency purist by any means but after reading this book I am wondering why this talented author chose to write a storyline with so manyexceptions to Regency behavior. The first scene should have prepared me: a well behaved, polite deb, in her first season (18 years old) is riding ALONE (no chaperone, no maid or servant along, AT NIGHT in an enclosed carriage with a 38 year old single man. This is completely out of the realm of Regency society---or at least according to countless, well regarded regency novels. This unheardvof situation is explained by the author as being allowed because it was expected that the man was going to propose that night. From all the traditional regencies I have read, this is exactly the time a young woman (with a reputation to protect) would not have been left alone with a single man, and certainly not alone in a closed carriage. This bit of regency protocol is so well known that I am bewildered as to how it came about---and it is not even central to the plot. The story continuesto put the same young woman in the path of not one but two other young men, with whom she goes for horseback rides and long strolls, again usually frowned upon if the young man we're not either relatives or fiances. Those situations could be overlooked, but the carriage ride was a red flag. The story continues to roll out a plot where a woman lives in a single gentleman's house for eight or nine weeks. During this time, there are a number of scenarios where she, in her nightgown, runs into him in the hallway. Just not part of a traditional regency where men and women did not behave in this manner.

I am also not a big fan of heroines who tremble, have heart palpitations, hear rushing sounds, or (even worse)experience electrical shocks up their arms when one of their fingers happens to touch the skin or hand of the hero. Especially women who have an 18 year old daughter. Maybe I am just jealous because although I think the world of my husband, I have never experienced any of these symptoms!!

I can say that this was G rated and that the plot focused on a 38-39 year old woman rather than a 18-25 year old woman with little life experience. Unusual.

This was a very delightful summer read. I enjoyed reading it. It's sort of like creme brule. It's good while you are eating it but it isn't much to to sink your teeth into. I enjoyed the story but it is not thought provoking.

I always love this author's books. This had an amnesia plot, which is not always my favorite but I enjoyed it anyway. you can't go wrong with Elizabeth Mansfield.

Interesting concept, dating the daughter then falling for the mother I guess if you date someone who is young enough to be your daughter that can happen. I really enjoy this book it ending exactly how I expected it to end. It was clean and fun.
