An innocent Texan beauty teaches a wealthy, cold-hearted rancher how to love in this classic romance by a New York Times–bestselling author.

While he’s very rich and very handsome, Colter Langston is not a good or kind man. But he understands that his young daughter, Missy, needs a mother. At the San Antonio Fiesta Parade he runs into a gentle, hazel-eyed beauty who would fit the bill nicely—much better than his current lover, the wild and hot Deirdre.

Barely out of her teens, Natalie Crane is overwhelmed by the breathtaking rancher who controls the vast Langston holdings in Texas hill country. When he asks her to marry him, Natalie agrees; beneath Colter’s cold, cruel exterior she can sense a beating heart that yearns to love.

But sexy Deirdre’s not about to give her man up without a fight . . .

With 300 million books sold,
New York Times bestseller Janet Dailey is an icon of American fiction. A master of heart-soaring romance, she tells the enchanting story of two damaged people forever changed and a family born from an unexpected love as big as Texas.

This is a sweet Cinderella type story. The Americana
Series is not a compilation of the greatest books ever written, but they are good gentle romances without the “heavy breathing “ you find in today’s books. I remember this book from when it first came out, I really wanted everything to work out for Natalie and I was very happy with the ending. Good book to put a smile on your face!

Coulter Langston is a wealthy rancher, and a widower with a young daughter he doesn’t know quite what to do with. He’s also a soulless jerk through most of the book. His only redeeming quality is that he feels some responsibility for his daughter and the ranch and its people.

Coulter’s daughter, Missy introduces herself to a lost little boy named Ricky at a festival, and meets his aunt who has been caring for him since his parents died. Natalie Crane has been working herself to half to death to support herself and her nephew and there never seems to be enough. When Coulter offers to marry her as an answer to both of their problems, Natalie accepts and marries the cold man before she has a chance to think too hard.

Now this is the start of what could be quite a romance novel, but it lost me for awhile after this part. They went to this lovely ranch, settle in, and she meets a handsome ranch hand that she likes instantly, and he likes her. Then, instead of the handsome, but cold Coulter seducing his new bride, he demands sex, she refuses, and he rapes her. I get that they’re married, but this wasn’t in the least bit romantic. They suggest that she likes his forced attention every night, but he is cold and indifferent to her and even cruel.

There are a few moments where you think he’s human, but you don’t see any real sign of affection on either end of this relationship until the end. This is the most dysfunctional romance I believe I have ever read. I gave it a four star, not for the romance value, but for the writing. It was well done, if bizarre. If there’s one thing I have learned, is than anything is possible with human nature, even this.

A sweet but too short a story. It could have been much better if the realization of love came more realistically and the main characters were too two dimensional

Followed characters into this second book well. Hope there will be another 'Mojo" book in the future.

Second book in the Cord & Stacey series. The story revolves around Colter Langston, a friend of Cord & Stacey, and Natalie Crane. They meet at the Fiesta San Antonio when Natalie's nephew and Colter's daughter Stephanie grab for the same piece of candy tossed from a float. The boy left where his Aunt Natalie left him to fetch a drink. Colter helps his aunt find him,and the two keep running into each other during the Fiesta. Natalie is at the end of her rope on how she & her nephew can survive financially & s working jobs at the Fiesta.Colter's daughter takes a liking to Natalie's nephew & the four are constantly thrown together. Colter needs a wife as a mother for his daughter & none of the women he knows fit the bill.So he proposes a marriage where Natalie has a home for her nephew & Colter has a mother for his daughter. This is a very good story. Cord & Stacey make a brief appearance when a tragedy happens. This is the debut of Travis McCrea who will appear in For bitter O worse & A Land Called Deseret! Really good story!
