Big Book of West Virginia Ghost Stories (Big Book of Ghost Stories) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 117 ratings

This “fantastic collection of the Mountain State's ghostlore . . . takes readers into the legends and the phenomena like no one else can” (Jeff Belanger, author of The World’s Most Haunted Places).

Rich in history and natural splendor, West Virginia also boasts a wealth of unexplained mysteries. In this volume, noted paranormal researcher Rosemary Ellen Guiley delves into more than one hundred accounts of hauntings from across the state.

From the restless spirits of the Hatfields and McCoys to John Brown’s ghost at Harper’s Ferry, Guiley shows that the region’s history is still very much with us. She also explores lesser-known mysterious places such as Droop Mountain, where headless spectors roam, and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, a site replete with tortured phantoms. Around the campfire or tucked away on a dark and stormy night, this big book of ghost stories is a hauntingly good read.

I work full-time in the paranormal and metaphysical fields, which means I lead a most unusual and highly adventurous life. I have written more than 50 books, including single-volume encyclopedias, on a variety of topics, A-Z, angels to zombies and everything in between. I cover the entire spectrum of the paranormal, for everything fits together, even the paranormal and the metaphysical. My work is part of my spiritual journey; probing into the Unknown, the Other Side, and other dimensions is my search for Truth.

I undertake field investigations of ghosts, UFOs, aliens, ultraterrestrials, Shadow People, Bigfoot, mysterious creatures, Djinn, demons, angels, fairies and more. I am frequently out on the road, and I have had plenty of first-hand experiences of many of the things I document in my books. We live on an "Interdimensional Earth" that is increasingly revealing itself as our consciousness expands. My work is devoted to the how and why we have other-reality experiences, and to helping people understand their experiences and integrate the value of them into life. I also deal with problem hauntings and spirit attachments.

On the metaphysical side, my work is devoted to helping people develop their spiritual path for more enlightened and prosperous living. My areas of emphasis are angels; dreams and dreamwork; intuitive, psychic and manifestation skills; the afterlife; spirit communication; meditation and prayer; past lives; and other experiences of an intense spiritual nature. I am a certified hypnotist with the International Hypnosis Federation, and have trained in various energy healing modalities.

In addition to my research and writing, I keep a busy media and lecture schedule, publish a complimentary e-newsletter called "Strange Dimensions," and run my own publishing and productions company, Visionary Living, Inc.

Got this book for my brother. He said there are some interesting ghost stories in the book. But he said there is some information in their that also has nothing to do with ghosts and just some history. he said those parts are really just boring and pointless. although history is important and cool, it defeats the purpose of the book, which is to tell ghost stories.

The Big Book of West Virginia Ghost Stories written by Rosemary Ellen Guiley is not your common ghost story book that is filled with fictitious stories. Instead, the book is based on real-life paranormal accounts that have been experienced by real people throughout West Virginia. These encounters were cataloged into this 280-page book and separated by West Virginia regions. The overall layout of this book is presented in such a fashion that it provides both history and haunting information alongside of the paranormal encounters.

For readers and researchers alike, they will find information for popular and not so popular encounters. Stories can span from just a single paragraph to several pages. Several of the stories include multiple sub-stories that were additional experiences from others.

As a West Virginia book author and an archivist of the West Virginia paranormal for nearly 15 years, I find this book to be an excellent reference to the paranormal within West Virginia. Guiley has done an outstanding job on the representation of our great mountain state. Her research and dedication to uncovering the paranormal helps people to understand just how interesting West Virginia can be.
