Brides and Betrayal (Reconciled and Redeemed Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 384 ratings

Holly and Hunter Harrison might appear to be the perfect couple - but looks can be deceiving.

The horrific death of Holly’s parents left her feeling tainted and unworthy. As she longs to come out from under the stain of their sin, she is held back by the constant whisperings in her mind that never fail to remind her who she is and where she comes from.

Hunter cannot forgive his mother’s adultery and vows never to be like his father - blindly accepted the sins of others. Fearful that they will fall into the same trap as his parents, he tries to control every situation, but his jealousy and judgmental attitude only add to Holly’s feeling of unworthiness. As the years pass, Hunter’s anger and mistrust grow, taking their toll on Holly and Hunter's marriage.

When handsome widower, Seth Hargrove, befriends the couple, he urges Hunter to let go of his anger, and reminds Holly she is more than her parents' sin. Will Seth be the key to reconciling Holly and Hunter and redeeming them from the disastrous path their marriage is on?  Or will his friendship only lead to betrayal?

Best-selling author, Michelle Lynn Brown is a housewife, mother of three, writer, blogger, hopeless romantic, and a cuddly lap for one very large cat. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, but raised in El Paso, Texas. The Lord has blessed her with the opportunity to live in many locations, from Germany to Oklahoma, where she now resides.

When she was a teenager, her mother used to take her to used books stores at least once a month. It was there she fell in love with the written word. As a writer, she uses this passion to share with others the joy of having a personal and intimate relationship with Christ.

Like the flawed characters that grace her books, she has had many stumbles and struggles in her life. God's grace and mercy through these trials have kept her on her knees. It is from this humble position that she seeks to minister through her writing - not as someone who has it all figured out, but just someone who has figured out how wonderful and awesome God is.

This is a compelling book! If you have ever had division in a marriage or known someone with similar issues as in this book, read this book! I hurt for this couple because of their problems and had hope for them because of their deep love. Both had to come to grips with the saving, healing grace of Almighty God so they could move beyond themselves and learn real peace.

I am so glad the writer worked the story ending as she did. Hope in GOD.

I recommend this book. I hope to find more books by this author.

Two people with very difficult backgrounds in a marriage headed for trouble. The theme here is redemption, but you need to know that going in because it's a tough read. You're right there with the female MC when she makes a huge mistake and it's hard not to shout and scream at her for being so stupid even though you knew she was pushed there by her husband's actions. I wanted to chuck the book across the room at one point, but stuck with it and I'm glad I did. I'd give it three stars on craft, since I think the author needs to work on making the dialog feel real and some minor sentence structure issues, but the four star rating is due to the bravery it took to tackle this subject. Infidelity is just as common among Christians as it is among humans in general and we shouldn't pretend it doesn't exist. Forgiveness and redemption are tenants of our faith, but we don't like to give it out when it comes to sexual sin so bravo to the author for making us sit through it and understand that it's not so simple or so easy. I had a bit of a book hangover after reading this and if you're looking for a sweet Christian romance, this isn't it. I still think it's well worth reading.

This wonderful story is a real tear jerker. Many times I felt the emotions of the characters so strong, it brought tears to my eyes. Excellent plot and wonderful characters.

A story of mistakes, judgement, love owned and love lost, passion, misunderstandings, betrayal, redemption and forgiveness...this story has it all and then so much more. Walking with Holly and Hunter through their struggles was intense. They are wonderful, real and very deep characters. At the end one is left wanting more of their story.

I can't wait to read any other books by Michelle Lynn Brown! She wrote a very genuine, deep, heart felt and very real story here. Absolutely an excellent read!!

A young couple face disaster as their marriage is torn apart by sins of the past. The young woman feels guilt for the stain of sin that she feels she has inherited from her parents who died when she was very young. Fighting with that guilt for all of her young adulthood she has married a man who is angry at the world because of the adultery of his mother and the feeling of failure he blames on his father. As these two come together with their burdens of guilt and perceptions of sin, there is no fate but disaster it seems. In total unhappiness and in a blind search for some light in their lives, they make friends with a young man who sees the catastrophe unfolding and frankly tells the young couple that they are more than the sins of their parents. But, will they listen? Is he strong enough to get them not only to listen, but to adhere to his words. Therein lies the plot.

This is an excellent portrayal of self-focused pain and God-focused redeeming freedom.

The text is not edited so even the the names are listed wrong at times. But the content made it obvious as to what name it should be, and the content well worth figuring out the corrections needed.

I actually really liked this book, even though it was really sad. Both Holly and Hunter have a lot to learn about God and forgiveness and that the decisions of others shouldn't affect how we live out lives. Holly should know that she can move past what happened and Hunter needs to learn how to forgive. A really touching story.

Wow! The characters in this story are like ones who part of "The Perfect Storm" of "Brides & Betrayals"....without the love of our sacred Jesus Christ dying for the sins of all..the main duo, Holly and Hunter would have had no chance at all.

Holly, at 16, sees the aftermath of betrayal in a murder & suicide; then for several years subjected to the aftermath of one betrayed. Wonder why she is constantly at a loss of whether she is"measuring up" in her marriage;"?

Hunter, the jealous husband, who too lives in the aftermath of parents, one of whom was unfaithful.

And Seth, you had to feel for him; a tool in the Devil's workshop.

Again, a perfect storm for a miracle, only the Lord can perform on human hearts. Read & enjoy. I'm glad I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can Broken Hearts be Mended?
Reviewed in Canada on September 3, 2016
Hunter's mother and his first wife had been involved in an adulterous relationship. Unfortunately, he carried the ill affects of this into his marriage to Holly. To add to the dilemma, Holly had her own baggage. She was the product of such a relationship and was left feeling unworthy of anyone's affections. Hunter' s jealousy was putting a wedge in their marriage. This beautiful story will take it's readers through some deep waters. It will serve as an encouragement to guard our marriages and that begins with guarding our minds. Yes, their marriage escalated into a mess. Can it be salvaged? Is forgiveness possible? Can it be redeemed in spite of the load of guilt and the anger they were carrying? It may even help someone who finds themselves in a similar situation. I highly recommend this book to you.

    3.0 out of 5 stars 5* Storyline in a 3* Jacket
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2014
I had read and thoroughly enjoyed Michelle Lynn Brown's Miracles in Disguise, so I was excited to read the first book in her new series. However, sadly, I didn't find that it matched up to what I had read before.

I think that there were two main reasons that I found the book hard to read. The first is that not enough contractions are used in the dialogue, which means that it comes across as stilted and unnatural. People just don't say "I do not", they say "I don't" etc. The other reason that I struggled with the book is that I found it hard to like the main characters. I know that they'd both had difficult lives and had brought a lot of insecurities and baggage into their marriage. However, they both came across as rather pathetic, and I just got annoyed with them.

The actual storyline itself is good, although it did seem a bit much that all the main characters had either been involved in or hurt by adulterous relationships. I would have also liked to see more involvement in the couple's situation by their church. They were, after all, active members, but weren't pursued by the pastor or other appropriate person when they obviously dropped by the wayside.

The book could also do with a bit of editing as there were a few typos and homonym errors - especially reign/rein.

I feel sad to have written a rather critical review, but I know that Michelle is a good writer. With a bit of editing and reworking this could be a 5* book.

2.0 out of 5 stars A depressing read!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 4, 2016
This was not an enjoyable read. It started with a murder and suicide and went on to feature multiple adulteries, a divorce and miscarriage. The 2 main characters were not very likeable and the majority of the book was about Hunter's anger towards his wife and how he couldn't trust or forgive her. Although not graphic, I still felt it was too sexually suggestive for a Christian book, i.e. the shower scene & adultery scene. It was very repetitive. There was finally a happy ending but too late to make this an enjoyable read.
