Horn Crown (Witch World Series 2: High Hallack Cycle) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 166 ratings

The story of how humanity first came to the Witch World—and almost doomed themselves as they discovered the dangers of their new home.

Long ago, after the Elder People deserted the place known as Witch World, a portal opened from another realm, bringing the people of Hallack to colonize the abandoned lands. But although the old inhabitants had gone, the Old Gods still existed to confound the new mortals beneath them.

This is the story of the first ones: Elron the Clanless and Gathea the Wise Woman, who sought their own separate fates in this new mountainous country; Iynne of Garn whose clan ventured into an unknown land of power and was seduced by sinister magic; and Gunnora, the Amber Lady, and her fight against Raidhan, Lady of the Dark Moon.

For any fan of the Witch World novels by Science Fiction Writers of America Grand Master Andre Norton, this is the must-have origin story for the adventures that have gripped lovers of sword and sorcery for generations.

Horn Crown
is the 5th book in the Witch World: High Hallack Cycle, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

I first read some or her work more than 50 years ago. Now ,approaching 80, I have read and reread all of her work again and again…
Down the years many have come and gone but none truly touched her ability to waft you away into other worlds and times…
I am and have been a true bibliophile or book lover for many years. I can recommend any of Andre Norton’s work for almost everyone.
If you love fantasy and science fiction please try her. You won’t be sorry!

Andre Norton has always a way with words and a tale. Her stories dress in a time when Honor, Duty, and Love meant much more than present. Good, Evil and Neutrality weave a tapestry to ward cold and dark. Hope is Eternal!

Classic Andre Norton, retelling and combining old myths from more than one culture, all assembled and presented through an engrossing tale.
Although this story stands nicely alone, and needs no knowledge of any of the other Witch World books to enjoy and appreciate, it is richer for participation in the the whole cycle, and makes them richer as well.

Wonderful a little different from her usual adventures, fast paced and enthralling couldn't put it down. I have been a fan Andre Norton for as long as I can remember her stories filled my childhood with fun and adventures

I love Andre Norton's writing. My problem is with the people releasing the digital content! Please people check your spelling and punctuation! I am tired of paying full publisher's price for these e-books and then finding so many mistakes. I know these are newly generated because I have most of the books I'm ordering-just trying to make room in my library-and the mistakes are not in the original published paper books. Get it together please!

On one hand this seems like a typical Norton quest for self enlightenment. On the other, it seems as though she was grappling with some truth about the nature of good and evil, and was stymied by the human inability to ever know all of the truth. The finale was both open ended and quite satisfying. Go for it.
