Very enjoyable i just feel that Piers Anthony is just a great writer i just love all of his books This of course is a childrens book but very enjoyable. I think both boys and girls between 10 to 13 will enjoy it. It has a nice premise in that both kids are dropped off in the childerns play area but of course they rare too old to be with the little kids and too you ng to enjoy hanging areound wiht their parents but wiht nothing to do. So in the play area they find a magic path that goes to a magic land and it is very well written for kids.

I put off reading this because I knew Piers Anthony writes fantasy, and it really isn't my favorite genre. I do read a lot of YA books, because I have a lot of children and I kind of enjoy that type fiction.
This was a pleasant surprise. It was fantasy, but not of the goblin, dragon, medievel sort of thing. It was the kind of dream you might hope to have, where you can fly and all your wishes come true, with unlimited candy involved.
Very suitable for the pre-teen, young teen crowd, but I think not so entertaining for the older or more sophisticated teen.
I did read the writer describing how he had to change some of the vocabulary in order for his YA audience to understand, but I am not in agreement with doing that. Many children who read have large vocabulary's, or they can do what my parents said to do...look it up.
I hope Mr. Anthony will continue to write for young people. He addresses the emotions of that age group very well.

I loved book. The characters are interesting and the story is very unique. I was guessing up to the very end as to what would happen. This is supposed to be a children's book but I think a lot of it would go over a child's head on what the book is trying to say. High school age to adult is more likely to understand what the story is about. Don't get me wrong, it was great just don't think younger kids would get it completely. The author hinted that there may be sequels to this book so I will be looking forward to them.

When I saw the name 'Piers Anthony' the whimsical joy of "Myth Adventures" flooded my mind from, well, 'many' years ago! I'd recommend Pandora Park for any child, (or adult!).

I have read a ton of Piers Anthony as a teen. I loved his xanath series and others. But this is not Xanath. This is an attempt at a children's book and it is not really up to the level of his other work. It reads like an independent fiction author's book, not like a book written by an author that has sold millions of books. I would probably recommend skipping it.

I would say this is targeted age 9-12 based on the writing and concepts. However, the writing is smooth - it doesn't feel "simplified" or "dumbed-down" the way some children's novels do. And the story is charming. Even a little funny. I enjoyed it, and may consider the sequels as well, since the ending was a little abrupt.

Xanth is a place to get away from the real world and even laugh at it just a bit. Cleaver and fun, good read.

Written for the 8-11 year old set, this is classic Anthony in that it is later Xanth, after book 15. It is extremely stereotypical where the sexes are concerned - in that boys and girls act certain ways. It does send a message that children should respect and listen to their parents and that in return their parents will respect and listen to them. In reality, does that happen? The world this takes place in is very Xanth-like, candy grows on trees, people have "talents", but that is where the the resemblance ends. There is a very different purpose here than to Xanth.

The story ends very abruptly and I actually found myself shaking my Kindle as if more words would fall out! It was a very disappointing ending.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but misses the mark
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 6, 2013
This very short novelette centres around two ten-year old children: a brash American boy and an elegant Chinese girl. It appears to be aimed at a fifth grade (about 10-year-old) audience, but misses the mark completely. The concepts, situations and (especially) language are at far too high a level; the Chinese girl has an improbably mature outlook and the references to emerging sexuality are unlikely to engage so young an audience. The world they discover is one where anything is possible through magic, so there is no attempt to make it believable or consistent - disappointing, from an author who can handle such themes with consummate skill, as in the early volumes of the Adept and Xanth series. Perhaps if the story were longer it might have been possible to introduce a greater feeling of authenticity but, unfortunately, it ends just as things start to get interesting, leaving a number of vague narrative hooks dangling in the air.
The Kindle formatting is imperfect, with many extra spaces between words and one page in which conversation runs together, without new lines for each new speaker, making it difficult to read and destroying the flow. This, of course, is clearly not the author's fault.
Two things redeem it: firstly, as a fable for adult readers it is quite thought-provoking and, secondly, there is an interesting 'author's note' that outlines Anthony's attempts to test the story on its target audience, and reveals his reaction to their praise and criticism. Worth buying (in the cheaper Kindle edition anyway), but don't expect a positive response from your ten-year-olds.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice, but...

I admit, I really enjoy reading Piers Anthony's books - therefore I might not be really objective.

In my opinion it is a nice novel, but it is a bit too short.
For adult readers the plot could be a bit to obvious and the characters are missing some "depth".
If you have already read "Reality Check" by this author, you might be a bit disappointed as the storyline is very similar.
