If the Shoe Kills (A Tourist Trap Mystery Book 3) Kindle Edition
As owner of Coffee, Books, and More in South Cove, California, Jill Gardner looks forward to the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers. But when the mayor ropes her into being liaison for a new work program, ’tis the season to be wary. Local businesses are afraid the interns will be delinquents, punks, or worse. For Jill, nothing's worse than Ted Hendricks—the jerk who runs the program.
After a few run-ins, Jill's ready to kill the guy. That, however, turns out to be unnecessary when she finds Ted in his car—dead as a doornail. Detective Greg King assumes it's a suicide. Jill thinks it's murder. And if the holidays weren't stressful enough, a spoiled blonde wants to sue the city for breaking her heel. Jill has to act fast to solve this mess—before the other shoe drops…

This was another solid installment in the series. The pacing was good. The storyline was intriguing. I was trying to guess who did it, and I figured out parts of it. There were touches of holiday between Christmas and Thanksgiving that I enjoyed. I’m growing very attached to the town and its inhabitants.
I give If the Shoe Kills 4 stars for its good read.
I would recommend this book to Cozy Mystery fans.
I know. I know. Formulaic characters should be in a cozy mystery! Jill and the residents of South Cove are evolving nicely as a whole but some of the characters seem too cliche. For example, the mayor has been consistently rude to Jill in all three books and it is starting to feel somewhat tired in this installment. I can predict his reactions before I read them. And, honestly, he is too callous to be believable or valuable to the plot. I am hoping for growth in the fourth installment and not just from the mayor—here’s looking at you Detective Greg!
Otherwise, this book was an enjoyable afternoon for me and I’ll be looking forward to the next one. NetGalley and the publisher gave me a copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
The business owners of South Cove are being asked to have an intern for several weeks as part of a work study program. Several of the business owners are afraid the interns will steal from them or worse. As the liaison between the business owners and City Hall, Jill has her hands full. Jill and the program director don't see eye to eye, Jill can't stand the man. Unfortunately, someone else doesn't like the guy much either. Jill attempts to steer clear of the guy but soon discovers him dead in his car. Everyone first assumes it's suicide but Jill thinks differently. As if that isn't enough, JIll is trying to plan Thanksgiving dinner with more and more people coming than she originally planned for, the mayor wants her to take over decoreating the town because his wife couldn't handle the job and no one else will do it. To top off everything, Sherry, the ex-wife of Jill's boyfriend, Greg is back on the scene trying to worm her back into the good graces of Detective King. It's a wonder if Jill will survive the holiday season in more ways than one.
This is a fast paced story where the pages fly by and before you know it, the end has arrived. I enjoyed watching the characters develop and grow. This is one of my favorite series and I can't wait to see what will happen next.

In this book, the mayor, who doesn't like Jill, dumps a liaison role for an 'intern' project on her, run by the Work Centre in nearby Bakerstown. The person who is her contact has a laid-back view of the project, and when he meets a nasty end, more stories emerge about him.
Jill also comes face to face with Greg's ex- wife, and she knows this is going to be an ongoing problem.
I really enjoyed this book, probably the best so far. Each book is a standalone story, but the books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.
Many of the local stores are helping with a new work initiative where they take on temporary workers who have had a problem holding down a job in the past. As the liaison Jill is rushing from place to place making sure everything is working properly and learning a lot about the program and its lead organiser. Then, just to add to her workload, she finds a dead body and feels obligated to help boyfriend and local police detective Greg King with the case.
This is book three in the Tourist Trap series which I am enjoying so much I've been binge reading! All the characters are great, with Jill and Greg as the main protagonists tending to have most of the action but there is a cast of regulars in place to either love or hate. The additional story specific participants always seem to fit seamlessly into place and add a certain something to the story arc.
This was a very enjoyable story in this excellent high quality series and progresses everyone's storyline very nicely indeed. Highly recommended.
Jill Gardner discovered another dead/murdered person and becomes a target for a killer, again!
This book is better than the 2nd & 4th book of the series because it provides more humor & less predictable than the other 2 books.
