It's Not About You, Mr. Santa Claus: A Love Letter About the True Meaning of Christmas (The Love Letters Book Series) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 75 ratings

There’s room for faith and flying reindeers in this festive book that explains the religious roots of Christmas to Santa.

Christmas is one of the most important holidays celebrated in most countries around the world, yet the true origin of this special day is often missed. Almost everyone equates Santa Claus and the giving of gifts with Christmas, but what event was the catalyst behind this centuries-old tradition? This delightfully illustrated children’s story is sure to become a tradition for you and your family as the holiday rolls around each year. Christmas is a special time of celebration and one in which we have time to reflect on what is most important.

“I believe this book [does] a great basic job of telling the story of the birth of Jesus to Santa. I think this story would be easy for a child to understand as well as an adult. Maybe a great story to tell a new believer or someone that doesn’t know about Jesus’s birth.” —
Courageous Christian Father

Not what I was expecting!

Not what I was expecting!
Where to start with this book? As a Christian, I was excited about reading this book to my toddler son. I was expecting an accurate story about the true meaning of Christmas. The author tried her best, but she left half of the story, the one about Nicholas, untold! Nicholas is not a function character, but a man who served and honored God all of his life and whose heart would break to know that he has been made into the center of Christmas. Let's tell the story as it is! Story wise, the book left out half of story, the part about Nicholas. He "did not need to sit tight, drink his milk, and eat his cookies" as a child tells him the story of the Savior he already knew! Quality wise, this is not a book, but an overpriced booklet. For starters, the quality of the book binding is not worth almost $9! The book, if we can call it that, looks pretty cheap, like one of those booklets you get on the mail for free. The story? It is as poorly executed as the quality of this booklet. I actually tried to send it back, and they would it take it. I did get a refund for this item. So, as I won't be reading this half fictional boooklet to my toddler, it is going to go the trash. Even though it presents the awesome story of The First Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ , our Savior, completely accurately; it diminishes the true story of Nicholas: a man who honored God and served others all of his life. Let's no create a fictional stories to satisfy our desire to do what is right. The author had a great, honest, truthful point about Jesus being the true meaning of Christmas, and that's what my son knows. But he also knows that Nicholas was a man who did good, served others and honored God with his life. Let's tell the story as it is! Very disappointed on this book. Won't be reading it to my toddler and I definitely don't recommend it.

After reading the first two books in this series, my youngest two children and I were really looking forward to this one.

This book - like the others in the series - begins with a little boy writing a letter, this time, to Santa Claus. Unlike the normal Christmas wish list, the boy decides to ask Santa Claus if he knows where all this gift giving really started.

Being a Christian series, the history and background surrounding Christmas concentrates on the birth of Jesus Christ. It's always a delight to read this to the kids, but I love the way this author weaves Santa Claus in while telling the tale of Bethlehem. Neither the fun fantasy around the North Pole nor the respect for Christ's birth is lost as the little boy explains everything to Santa in his letter. So bonus points for that!

The illustrations are perfect--colorful and fitting to the story. They don't simply follow along with the written words, but add to the story. My daughter especially liked flipping through these again and again.

I also enjoyed the addition of King Herod to the Christmas story (someone who is often forgotten in traditional tellings). The 'evil' king's intentions add just the right dash of adventure which kids will love. . .and it's so fitting to the little boy writing the letter.

Summed up, this is a delightful read right before Christmas. I wouldn't recommend it to the youngest readers since the story is a bit longer for a picture book, but kids 4+ will enjoy it. It carries everything needed to explain Christ's birth, while 'allowing' kids to keep the tradition of Santa Claus. It's a book kids will love to listen to while drinking some hot chocolate, nibbling on a few Christmas cookies, and snuggling close together near the Christmas tree.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is another adorable book from Soraya Coffelt! In this book, the child writes to Santa Claus to let him know the true meaning of Christmas. It tells the story of the Christ child, Jesus, and I really love the illustrations in this book.

As it tells the story of Jesus and his birth, it also explains a lot of things like what a manger is and why the wisemen brought the gifts to Jesus that they brought. I really like that this was explained because I'm sure a lot of children wouldn't really understand about these things.

There is a lot of humor in this book, too, as the child talks about the shepherds. I got a chuckle out of several things in this story. It would definitely entertain a child while explaining very well about Jesus.

I love this book. It's easily understood so even the youngest of children could enjoy it. The illustrations are very colorful and add a lot to the story. I also like that she always invites the reader to accept Jesus as their Savior if they haven't done so already. I highly recommend this book and it would be a great book to read on Christmas eve!

I would give it 5 stars if it had a better quality cover. I bought the paperback version and it's really soft and flimsy. It would be much nicer in the hardback version. Overall, the storyline is really nice and I think helps keep the kids' attention. My 6 and 7 year olds seemed to like it.

This is not the best book for helping very young children understand the meaning of Christmas. The idea is great, but I think it is more appropriate for older children.

It’s Not About You, Mr. Santa Clause: A Love Letter About the True Meaning of Christmas reminds children that Christmas is about Jesus Christ. The story is narrated from the perspective of a child, who writes a letter to Santa, telling the story of Jesus’ birth and why it is so significant. The nativity story is explained in an exciting tone, and it is written in a manner that is easy for children to understand. I think that kids will really enjoy the book!

I liked how the narrator said to Santa Claus, “This Christmas, I want to thank you for all that you do. For every gift you give to kids, well, it is as if you are honoring Jesus, too!” The story shows that we can honor Jesus and celebrate His birth as we give gifts to family and friends. The book nicely ends with a prayer about accepting Jesus into your heart. It’s Not About You, Mr. Santa Clause is a special book, because it tells us the story of Jesus’ birth and shows us why it matters.

I am a Christian mom and blogger and I get many books to review and I must say this is one book I was happy to read and to encourage other Christian parents to consider adding to their library. I love that the book is written by a child to Santa explaining that he isn't the main focus. In a world that is sucked in by consumerism around Christmas, this books teaches children that although Santa is a great jolly old fellow, it really is all about the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior. Some may say the whole concept of Santa should be taken out of the book. But, I believe that you can still leave a little magic and fun in a story and still convey to children the real meaning of Christmas, which in my opinion the author does very well. With its delightful illustrations and beautifully written story of the birth of Jesus it is a book that you'll enjoy reading to your kids throughout the Christmas season.
