Wow this book may be old but the information is timeless. I bought this book used and boy was it worth it. (It looks like you can purchase a "print on demand" but it's not cheap.) The author elaborates on the options of creativity when curves are not an issue, how you can create any design you want - she helps you figure out how to create things that may be in your mind. She includes pictures of incredible and rather famous quilts (such as hanging in the White House) that are beautiful to look at and motivating. Then, she goes through, step by step, with pictures and clarity on how to go about creating the fabric art that you want to make from any design you may have. I had a drawing and with her explicit instructions, including the tracing paper to buy, how to draw it etc., I was able to make some wonderful artistic creations.

LOVE this book. It was recommended to me by another quilting individual after I was asked to do a landscape quilt and was at a loss of how to do it. The author breaks these complicated looking pieces down so well and makes it very easy to understand. It's must have for quilter's library!

One of my favorite quilting books! Takes all the mystery out of learning those pesky curves, and gives plenty of tips and ideas for beginners. That said, this book is probably not for a complete novice to the quilting world, as there are plenty of things to master before taking on curves. Still, it's written in easy to understand language, and not something you need to be a pro to tackle. Enjoy!

I really think this is a good book to have. It is written very well and there are numerous pictures on every page describing the method of sewing on a curve. For someone who has never sewn a curve and feels intimidated by trying I would recommend this book.
Although this is a good book to have, the reason I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5 was that some of the designs were difficult to make out. Some of the flowers were hard to visualize. The author recommends using very pale colors. Though, there are a good many pictures of quilts with very vibant and alive colors made by her students. Personally I can't wait to try my own design with brighter, more cheerful colors.

Judy Dales makes gorgeous quilts, and this book has assisted me with new skills. Her design and color choices astound me. Her curved pattern designs make an accurate quilt. She lives and exhibits in Vermont.
