Dive Deep: Exploring the Depths of POV Kindle Edition

3.7 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

Though every aspect of writing is critical in producing a good story, one of the most important skills a writer can employ to craft a gripping novel is Point of View. In this booklet, fiction veteran Virginia Smith guides writers through the shallows – the basics of viewpoint, tense, and scope – and into the depths of Deep POV. Learn and practice the techniques of creating a strong affinity to your characters that will keep your readers up late at night, turning pages to find out what happens next.

Includes exercises to practice the skills presented.

The author provides a great explanation of deep point of view with numerous examples of editing dull narration into exciting thoughts "in the head of the character." This is a must for writers learning deep point of view.

I bought Dive Deep: Exploring the Depths of POV, by Virginia Smith through my husband's account a while back.

Since he doesn't have a Kindle, and I do, I decided to get the e-book through my amazon account. No matter how many times I tried uploading the book, I always got the SAMPLE and never the complete version. Save your pennies. The Kindle format was, apparently, formatted wrong.

Virginia Smith writes DIVE DEEP in a straightforward manner that is easy to grasp. I understand the principles of deep POV much better after reading this book. The exercises included helped to work out the instructions she gives.

I was struggling with the style of Deep POV, and this book made it so clear. Now the style feels natural to me.

    A wonderful resource for writers!

This is an excellent little volume for all fiction writers. I picked this book up at a conference where I had the privilege of meeting Virginia Smith, and if you haven't met her--you should! Her wealth of writing wisdom along with a happy helping of humor is engaging and delightful. The book itself is a quick and easy read which can be used as a reference and passed along to all your friends. I loved the exercises available for each chapter (with answers at the back). I definitely learned several things to grow my writing, and I highly recommend this book.

Very helpful. Deep POV is new to me and this made it so easy to understand.

Numerous detailed examples in various tenses, though most are for 3rd person.

First person examples are also given because, since it's usually the most intimate pov, people don't as often see the "telling" errors.

It was also nice to see someone say not "everything" has to be narrated in deep pov. The reason why is clearly explained. Saying what it is would be a spoiler (smiles).

This is my 3rd recently read book about deep pov, and felt it added more clarity for me on the subject.
