- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2015This book is simply amazing! The writing, the story, the characters, everything about it is beautiful! R.S. Grey did an amazing job in telling this story, and trust me, you will be swooning over Jason!
This story is about two musicians who are forced to collaborate on a duet for the Grammy’s. Neither one of them are happy about it, and what happens once they start working on it, is a beautiful love story.
Jason and Brooklyn are like oil and water when they first get together, you could feel the frustration of these characters when they first started working on their song, that you wanted to scream for them. When finally they have a brilliant idea to get rid of their writers block, the lines become blurred for the two of them.
Brooklyn is a free spirit in some ways, while Jason, is the dark, mysterious character. Like I said, oil and water. But their chemistry is amazing, and you quickly start rooting for these characters to make it. Everything that seems to go wrong with these two does, and has you questioning if they will make it or not. They went in with a no strings attached, and somewhere the lines became very blurred.
Jason was very hot and cold with Brooklyn, and I truly thought he really just didn’t like her, but as the story progressed, you could see he was trying to fight his feelings for her. The tension between Jason and Brooklyn was definitely felt by me, while reading this book.
I wanted to laugh, cry, and scream while reading this book. I loved Jason and Brooklyn’s story, and was in tears at the end, happy tears of course, but none the less, tears were in my eyes. I felt as if I took this whole journey with them and was so happy to see how everything worked out.
Not only is there hot sex, and tension, but this book has some definite laugh out loud moments! I would find myself laughing out loud almost every chapter. Definitely when Brooklyn was drunk, or talking to her sister! OMG Hilarious moments in this book!
I loved how this book really came to life, and made me forget everything else going on around me, I was consumed with this story and could not put my kindle down. Everything else was just background noise, I needed to know how this story would end!
I became a huge fan of R.S. Grey’s after reading Scoring Wilder, but after reading The Duet, I can definitely say, I don’t think there is a bad thing she could write. Her stories draw you in, and make you feel so connected to the characters. I loved this story and am definitely excited to read Cammie and Grayson’s story now.
If you’re looking for a hot, hilarious, and tension filled book, definitely pick up a copy of The Duet today! I LOVED it!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 20144-4.5 stars. My first thought is that this book reminds me a lot of Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. They are not the same story, just some parallel themes and hence, at the end, left me with a similar range of sentiments about The Duet with regards to the characters. Brooklyn is one of those pop singers that may seem like she has everything on the outside - fame, beauty, fortune - but she isn't the sort of person to take her good fortune for granted, she worked hard for it and her only friend and family member that she trusts is her sister Cammie. Otherwise, she diligently exercises, dances, plays guitar, sings and writes her own song because she knew she wouldn't be able to achieve success otherwise. The only thing missing in her life is true love. Since she has to deal with media attention and the paparazzi, finding love isn't as easy as one would think, even a casual relationship is a bit of an obstacle. Brooklyn is a really cool person, she's got a likable personality, she's funny and she's realistic. Then there's Jason Monroe, another famous singer who is also on the same label as Brooklyn, but different kind of music and different kind of appeal and audience. Jason Monroe is the kind of guy who does solo work, keeps to himself and doesn't care for manufactured images. He writes all of his owns songs and his level of guitar playing is in a category of its own. He and Brooklyn are required by their label to write and perform a duet together. For no obvious reason, Jason is not happy with this idea and is basically a complete a$$ to Brooklyn right from the beginning. She goes out to Montana to his ranch so they can do the songwriting and from there, Brooklyn charms her way into Jason's household and although she and Jason are hardly friends, they do get to know each other and have an arrangement. I had mixed feelings about Jason. For someone to write the kind of music that he does, he has a lot of depth and emotion even if he doesn't show it. He's definitely complicated. Truly, he's a good guy at heart that act likes a total douche to Brooklyn and that really irked me because she wasn't being a snob to him and she didn't deserve it, he just wasn't welcoming of her presence whatsoever, and then he put off her friendship. He basically took whatever he could without giving anything back and while Brooklyn consented to this, I hated him for it. Then there were some select moments far and few in between that the genuine and caring Jason would come out, enough to show that he was capable of more and was selectively choosing to do so when it suited him. There was no way this could end happily and it doesn't by the time Brooklyn leaves Montana. I will give Jason credit from this point forward, he goes after what he wants and finally puts up a fight, even though he didn't need to resort to covert operations and should have just been up front so that Brooklyn wouldn't have been left guessing. His grand gesture was definitely monumental. In the end, Jason mans up and I would have liked to have seen more of the two of them after everything happened just to experience their new dynamic and see a more redeemed version of Jason, but that could still happen in the next book. Cammie and Grayson, I'm wondering what the real story is between the two of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good read from this author
Brooklyn is a singer songwriter and her label have decided that she should do a collaboration with Jason. Neither singer gets a say in this but neither of them are happy to be pushed together. Jason does most of his writing at his ranch in Montana and Brooklyn is invited to stay. There is tension between the two of them but they gradually start to work towards a song. Tension does change into having sex as the words start to flow and their song is done. Brooklyn flies back when she finds Jason has a big secret and she is furious with him. Another great read from this author, I have just downloaded the book about her sister so lets see how that goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Très agréable lecture

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the cliché I needed
With an outspoken yet insecure heroine. A brooding hero(lol, you'll get the reference once you read it) and the most hilarious side characters ever, it's just as the title says: a much needed cliché.
