- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2015This is Lisa's third book, and they just keep getting better. If you have kids ranging in age from oooh-pretty-picture to graduate students in History, they'll love this book. The detail of her illustrations is incredible. The accuracy is spot-on.
Lisa's Queen Victoria is my favorite. HM Queen Victoria lived such a long life, we usually see the photographs from when she was an old woman. Here she is in 1837, when she first assumed the throne. One of my favorite historical fiction series is George Macdonald Fraser’s “Flashman” novels. In the first of the series, Flashman, young Harry Flashman is a British cavalry officer who goes off to India and gets caught up in the Afghan Wars. At the end of the novel, he meets this Queen Victoria. Wonderful!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2015This book is both visually and intellectually delightful. The detailed illustrations are worth the cost alone but the little stories really make this a great gift for anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2015Absolutely wonderful book, not only is the artwork amazing, but the facts are so Intresting.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2015I only wish it had been longer! It was both gorgeous and fascinating.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017'Her Majesty: An Illustrated Guide to the Women who Ruled the World' by Lisa Graves is a look at famous and infamous rulers. It shows the kinds of influence and power they had.
The women featured in the book are from many countries and times starting with Hapshepsut of Egypt and going all the way to Tsarina Alexandra of Russia. Each woman gets a full page painting and a short bio including their greatest achievement. For Queen Victoria, this was surviving six assassination attempts. For Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi, it was leading her people in fighting against their oppressors.
This is book full of facts and great pictures. It doesn't include every woman ruler, but it includes a very interesting selection.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Xist Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2017For a massive history fan like myself this book was great - it covers a wide range of women with different backgrounds over several thousand years - I loved the layout, the images, the facts - the whole concept! It is definitely a book that I would want to get for my daughter when she is older to show her how strong women can be and you don't need a man to rule any country! 5 stars from me

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nice book
A very nice book with lovely illustations that can help start conversations over the characters it presents. The only think I am sad about is that I wish it included more of them! It is also nice that it is not an eurocentric book, you also get queens and rulers from Asia and other parts of the world.
