Untamed: A Splintered Companion Kindle Edition
A companion collection to the New York Times Bestselling young adult series containing three stories about a teenaged ancestor of Alice in Wonderland.
Alyssa Gardner went down the rabbit hole and took control of her destiny. She survived the battle for Wonderland and the battle for her heart. In this collection of three novellas, join Alyssa and her family as they look back at their memories of Wonderland. In Six Impossible Things, Alyssa recalls the most precious moments of her life after Ensnared, and the role magic plays in preserving the happiness of those she loves. Alyssa’s mother reminisces about her own time in Wonderland and giving up the crown to rescue the man who would become her husband in The Boy in the Web. And Morpheus delves into Jeb’s memories of the events of Splintered in The Moth in the Mirror.
Praise for Splintered:
“Splintered is dark, twisted, entirely riveting, and a truly romantic tale.” —USA Today
“Brilliant, because it is ambitious, inventive, and often surprising — a contemporary reworking of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,’’ with a deep bow toward Tim Burton’s 2010 film version.” —The Boston Globe
“It’s a deft, complex metamorphosis of this children’s fantasy made more enticing by competing romantic interests, a psychedelic setting, and more mad violence than its original.” —Booklist
“Protagonist Alyssa . . . is an original. Howard’s visual imagination is superior. The story’s creepiness is intriguing as horror, and its hypnotic tone and setting, at the intersection of madness and creativity, should sweep readers down the rabbit hole.” —Publishers Weekly
“Creepy, descriptive read with a generous dollop of romance.” —School Library Journal

About the author

A.G. Howard was inspired to write SPLINTERED while working at a school library. She always wondered what would've happened had the subtle creepiness of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland taken center stage, and she hopes her darker and funkier tribute to Carroll will inspire readers to seek out the stories that won her heart as a child.
When she's not writing, A.G.'s pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening, and family vacations which often include impromptu side trips to 18th century graveyards or condemned schoolhouses to appease her overactive muse.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2016You guys. When I saw there was another book in this series I almost lost my mind. Not only are the covers some of the most beautiful I've seen, but the stories inside continue to take me on wild rides. I grabbed this puppy on Amazon and gobbled it up in just a couple of days. Since I'm positive you don't give two shakes about where I got it or why, I'm moving on to the meat of my review.
From a Reader's Perspective:
Wow. I loved seeing how Alyssa is managing both worlds in this story. Watching everything unfold, and learning some of the backstory, was an escape like no other. How beautiful the love was between Alyssa and Jeb, and what a gentleman Morpheus turned out to be! I found myself lost in the beautiful, chaotic Wonderland that Howard built (but didn't go overboard on), and when I had to put the book down to adult, I was torn asunder. Alyssa continued to grow as a character in this novella. I could see myself being friends with her in the real world. What blew me away the most were the stories from Alyssa's mother. I always wondered how, when, and why everything came to be, and this book answered all my questions. There was never a dull moment, the action moving from one thing to the next constantly. So glad I read this one. Splintered fans will be dancing in the streets.
From an Editor's Perspective:
While there was a typesetting boo boo near the back of the book, there were no grammatical errors or anything like that. Wonderfully done.
Rating:
1 Star for giving me all that backstory I was craving
1 Star for showing how Alyssa grew since Ensnared ended
1 Star for glorious world building without bogging me down in details
1 Star for excellent pacing
1 Star for stellar editing
Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend reading this book (whole series) if you're a fan of dark fantasy. Loved. It.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2016If you loved the Splintered trilogy but wanted to know more, this is the book for you! It has three short stories, all of which tell more about the characters in the original trilogy.
There are three stories in this book. The first one is The Boy in the Web which tells the story of how Alyssa's mother saved her father, back when they were young. The Moth in the Mirror tells the story of Morpheus viewing Jeb's memories from when he was locked in the jabberlock box. The last one, Six Impossible Things, tells the story of Alyssa's life as she grows old in the mortal world and eventually continues her life in Wonderland with Morpheus.
These stories give just a little more detail and just enough additional story, especially Six Impossible Things, to make them well worth the time of anyone who loved the original trilogy. I'm not usually a big fan of short stories, but these left me feeling satisfied and I'm glad I read them.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024After listening to this series on Audible Plus, I knew I must buy the hardbacks, but unfortunately these are not as popular as they deserve to be. I was apprehensive that Amazon states that Splintered, Ensnared and Untamed hardcovers are 8.25” and Unhinged is 8.75” (and although I don’t live in a country that uses imperial units, I can measure and covert - and obviously they’re all 8.50”).
Untamed is perhaps my least favourite book of the series, but it’s also heaps above so many other fairytale retellings, that it’s so great to have it in hardback in my possession.
And you got to love the very accurate Alyssa’s wedding picture that’s the art of the cover, the purple eyes really are something!

OMG! This one was my favorite!
This is a novella telling of things that happened within the books. I loved it so freaking much!
First we have the families all together and then we have Alyssa's mom (Alison) telling her story of when she was little and met Morpheus and the things she went through.
Now I'm not giving out any spoilers so don't worry.
We also get to read about what happened, in depth, to Alyssa's father when he was young.
And finally we get to read about what happened after the last book. I will admit that it made me cry but you all know I cry in books all of the time so this is nothing new! It was just so wonderful and some sadness but mostly it was wonderful!
It's so bizarre to me how I can love this book more than the original trilogy, but it's not one to read before the other three. If you do that it will ruin the first three books. I think it was just the wrapping up of all that happened and getting to look into what happened after and a few other things that were told in the books. Either way, I loved it and I'm happy ♥

5.0 out of 5 stars Muito bom

5.0 out of 5 stars must-read for splintered fans :)
I really liked this collection. It brought my attention back to the Universe of Alice in Wonderland A.G Howard created and I totally wanted to reread the series when I was done with the short stories!
Especially Morpheus, our beloved moth master of sass, made me swoon whenever there was a scene with him - and there were quite a lot! :D
A must-read for every Splintered fan!
