Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 5–8—The long-awaited follow-up to The Girl Who Could Fly (Feiwel & Friends, 2008) finds Piper ("the girl who could fly") and Conrad ("the boy who knew everything") living in relative calm on Piper's family farm. Some time has passed since they and their fellow exceptional children escaped Dr. Hellion's prison of a school, yet the calm lasts only briefly as a few disparate events quickly unfold and turn everything upside down. In quick succession, the near death of Piper's beloved father, his father's election to the presidency, and a successful experiment in time-bending spurs Conrad to finally step up as leader of their band of misfit children. Under Conrad's tutelage, the kids carry out anonymous goodwill missions in response to fishy "natural" disasters. Yet their mission proves far from straightforward. Who is behind these disasters? Is there indeed a secret place where exceptional kids are free to be themselves? As in its predecessor, this installment straddles the real and the imagined. At times, this blend coalesces beautifully, but often it proves a bit clunky. The folksy colloquialisms uttered by Piper and her parents still feel out of place, leaving readers a little unsettled as to the setting. Its greatest strength emerges when the tale balances quiet moments of self-realization, identity, and friendship with an action-packed plot. VERDICT Fans of The Girl Who Could Fly will embrace this sequel.—Jill Heritage Maza, Montclair Kimberley Academy, Montclair, NJ

Review

“The sequel to the best-selling The Girl Who Could Fly centers on Piper's friend Conrad Harrington, son of the soon-to-be president, whose special talent is that he is smarter than the average genius. Now living happily on Piper's family's farm, he is willing to let the bad times go, but, not surprisingly, trouble finds them both . . . What keeps this centered . . . is the firm friendship of Piper and Conrad.” ―Booklist

Soooooo good!

Soooooo good!
OMG! The 1st book blew my mind! But this 1 was even better somehow! I am just in awe at the writing talent. There were so many twists, so much suspense, danger..old characters, new characters...started to love 1 I thought I hated!! The talent! Lol Piper is still as incredible as ever. This book is more from Conrad’s POV, & what a great kid. He & Piper are always together for the most part, so she’s still in this one just as much, which I loved. There’s so many amazing parts that I want to talk about, but can’t! It’s the 2nd book & I don’t want to spoil. But the AMOUNT of utterly amazing parts shows how great this book is. I was so upset I had to stop reading last night & go to sleep. There was literally never a point I wanted to put it down. I picked it up yesterday on page 32 where I stopped the night before. I was on page 262 when I finally forced myself to put it down last night. The whole book was just magnificent, & that ending was BRILLIANT! It had me proud of of these characters, emotional (good kind), & tingling w/excitement for the last book. The villain in this book was written astonishingly well! Soooo good! Top notch “bad guy”. I loved to hate them, & loved reading their parts in the book. Engrossing to say the least. Highly recommend. I can say already this is a new favorite author. Another stunning cover by Iacopo Bruno too of course. Just beautiful.💜

I loved every single frickin' minute of it. It was enjoyable and exciting. Just like the first book, I couldn't put it down! I got the first book at the library, and when I found out there was a sequel, I couldn't wait to go back, so instead I bought it. It was worth every penny. The boy who knew everything is a wonderful and excitable read. I cried out when Piper fell, I gasped in shock, when Starr was Conrad's grandmother. I laughed and cried. It was amazing. AND I LOVED IT!

I loved this book so much. The first book was my absolute favorite as a kid and even helped me when I was bullied for being a bit different. I can't wait for the third book now! I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, especially if you love magic, mystery, action, and suspense!

I’ve read so many extraordinary books and yet this series is one that continues to sweep me off my feet. It is so truly inspirational and beautiful and dangerous all at once. This is the book to read.

My 8 1/2 year old daughter loves this book. She would recommend this book to kids and adults who like a little adventure. She especially enjoyed it because it had a lot of action but also dealt with how the characters felt. The book was fast-paced and was very unique. They are pretty long books and would be a good book to take on a trip.

Robin and Cindy thought this was a good book.
Cindy: I don't feel Piper and Conrad's emotions.
Robin: I agree but I still feel you sort of know what they are feeling because of the author's narration.
Cindy: the book was comforting when the children escaped and when they were on the farm.
Robin: I sort of thing the farm was a home base when the kids need a break from everything that is happening.
Cindy: Yes, the farm was so peaceful and loving.
Robin: I agree but I really like the parts when the children were being tricking like when Max tricks Conrad.
Cindy: My favorite scene was the President's mom was carrying the rocks to keep him alive. It was so hard her for.
Robin: My favorite part was when Conrad met his little sister. I wonder if she has a special power like Conrad.
Cindy: Max is just plain evil for no reason.
Robin: I agree.
Cindy: The book was good but it could have been better.
Robin: I agree with the part, the book was good, but I disagree that it could have been better.

I loved this book! It is very descriptive, and as I read the book I could imagine everything the author talked about. I highly suggest reading this book it takes you to another world. I hope the author will right a third book that tells us about these kids journey to fight and defeat Max. This book was a really great one I'm sure that I will read it over and over, and suggest it for everyone.

I read the first book when I was 10, thinking it was going to be boring. But it amazed me and has quickly become one of my favorites, even now at age 15. I had been anticipating a sequel for so long, and when I read this it lived up to my expectations. I hope Victoria writes a third installment, because this series has sobmuch potential.

I loved this book as well as the prequel to it. This book made me laugh and cry. I think this book is one of the best books I've ever read (the prequel being the other favorite), and I would recommend the book to anyone who likes adventure, mystery, and a touching story.

Book is fine. I thought everything I ordered was free shipping over $35 and when I checked out, it seems the order split in two and one of those two attracted shipping charges.

Although I am happy that I finally got the book, when I received my pagage, I find the condition of the book that was said to be "new", has three of the pages on the back ripped as well as the front corner is also damaged.
