Bernadette Marie once again knocked it out of the park with Walker Pride. It is the first book in the Walker Family series. This book centers around the eldest of the Walker children, Eric. We first meet him as he is dealing with his grandfather’s death. There were many characters in the story including 5 children each by Everett and Byron Walker. Surprisingly, it did not get confusing. The focus stayed on a small amount of characters, making it easy to keep up with who was who. There were also some context clues if you forgot who someone was. I found myself identifying with love interest Susan Hayes. She is a strong woman who has overcome much, yet allows herself to take a chance on love again. Eric is clumsy and awkward dating Susan which just made him even more endearing. Not only was this a romance, there was mystery. I was certain I knew who was behind the property destruction and animal deaths. I was completely wrong! I highly recommend reading this book. It was fun and kept me hooked!

Quotes from the book.....

"Why is it that a piece of very good property, legally purchased fifty years ago, now goes back to the original owner in a 'bout of bad luck?' "

The Morgan family has just acquired the fifteen-hundred acres to the east of the Walker property.

The "real" Walkers and the Morgan's - the strife between them has been brewing for decades. What kind of family doesn't even accept one of their own?

"So if the Morgan's acquire this land, what's going on there?" Byron loses the property over his gambling losses and now someone is out to destroy the land? Animals are dead. The cemetery is vandalized. Cars are targeted. Not just the Walker's but the Morgan's too. Who is behind it?

"OIL" you think that's what this is all about? Yes, but it doesn't make sense to destroy the property over it. Especially if the deal is to sell the oil rights.

Eric's mother is the bargaining chip. Pg. 239

Eric owned a horse-boarding business. They took his horse, cattle and ruined his business. Yup! Dwight Peterson is planning on buying the oil rights of the land.

No matter how messed up all of this is, it brought the Walker family together.

Even the Douglas Brant suspects something. (Oh really)

Eric was sure Shooter Magee was the guy messing up his life. So what was Peterson and Magee doing at the Morgan's?

Well, well, well - it seems Shooter was the man who sat up the card game in which Byron Walker lost. Elias paid his gambling debt. Mr. Walker owes no one.

"Illegal gambling operation set up by Magee is one offense. The game was rigged. Mr. Walker shouldn't have lost." Bethany's father had a gambling problem, which had led him to using the family land as collateral to pay off his debt. His lack of discipline, of any kind, had nearly cost the family more than he already had.

What about the poisoned animals? What about the properties? The slashed tires? The stolen cars? The lurking about, setting off alarms?

Who's out to kill Eric? Once _______ pulls the trigger of the gun, Eric rolled on the kitchen floor - blood soaked his shirt from where the bullet had penetrated his arm. Douglas Brant takes Bethany with him after setting Eric's bed on fire, leaving Eric in the house.

Bethany managed to shoot Brant in the ass with his own gun and cuffed him face down in the backseat.

_______ killed Eric's horse and .......

Eventually, the Walkers are back in business.

Family was a good thing to have on your side. Life is too short not to grab on with both hands.

Walker Pride is the first novel in the Walker Family series by Bernadette Marie. It follows the oldest son of Everett Walker, Eric, and his unexpected journey to finidng himself and someone he wants to share his life with.

Eric is forty years old and a bit of a loaner. He has his business and the house on the edge of his family's property and thats all he thinks he needs. That is until he meets a woman at an event held by his family and she worms her way into his heart and soul, completely unintentionally.

Susan is in Georgia for a fresh start. After divorcing abiut a year ago, she is ready to focus on herself and build her business, which will hopefully lead to another business and an even bigger dream. But then she meets this kind of surly man at an event and she has to wonder if she is even ready for anything like that again.

I really enjoyed this story. It felt very detailed and had a ton of suspense in it. The twists and turns mad eme never want to put it down! Walker Pride is the perfect title and I really enjoyed all the characters (and there are A LOT haha)! I look forwarded to the rest of the series and getting to know the Walker clan even more!

It seemed like an interesting story, but one unnecessary word kept coming up over and over. I kept on reading and finally stopped when two people who had only known each other a few days headed to the bedroom, and not to sleep. I think it could have been a really good story if it had stayed clean.

Walker Pride (Book 1 of The Walker Family Series) by Bernadette Marie was a really good read! I wasn't sure how I would like it at first, as the beginning was a little dry, but it definitely picked up the pace and got very interesting. The best part of this novel comes towards the end though. Eric reminded me so much of Wayne from Letterkenny (it's a TV for those who don't know) I couldn't help but laugh at some of his sayings and what he does in this novel. I was shocked by some of the content, of course in a good way, and this novel was definitely not what I expected when I first started reading it. I can't wait to read the next installment!

Eric Walker is a true cowboy at heart, he lives on his own and runs a business on a ranch where he boards horses and raises beef cattle, he has a big family nearby and a routine and structure in his life which he has developed over time, but that all changes when his grandfather dies. Susan Hayes has moved to Georgia to make a new life for herself, she is running her own catering business and has dreams of opening her own restaurant, so she attends culinary school on the nights where she isn’t catering for parties and events, but all that is about to change when she caters for a funeral at the Walker estate.

Eric prefers his own company to that of his family, so when he goes to his family’s house, he is not in the best of moods, because he has already had to spend the day before interacting with them all, so when he storms into the back door of the house to listen to the reading of the will, the last thing he expects to see is the caterer and he is the last thing she is expecting to see either. They are both immediately struck by the other, but when Eric starts to pinch food off of her platters before they are even set up, she knows that he is trouble personified, however, she is intrigued by him during their small conversation and Eric cannot stop conversing with her despite the fact that it is completely out of his character, that is until he is summoned into the study with the rest of the family.

As the will is being read, some shocking family secrets come out of the woodwork when they find out that they are going to have to relinquish half of their lands back to their original owners as payment of a gambling debt which his Uncle got himself into, they also find out that there are other things mentioned which make the entire group angry and stressed out, especially Eric as the part of the land is the one on which he has built his life, business and home. Susan meanwhile is doing her best not to listen in to the raised voices and keep her professional demeanor in tact, however, when the conversation comes round to one of Eric’s cousins that she needs a place to stay while she is visiting, Susan immediately offers her a place to stay as she is in need of a roommate and also needs help in the business, so she offers a job as well. Eric’s cousin is taken aback at the ofer and agrees to think about it before leaving to escape to Eric’s house and away from the family she doesn’t believe even want her there. It is during this conversation and the rest of the afternoon that Eric realises that he cannot get Susan out of his mind, so when his cousin calls to go and see the house, he jumps at the chance to see Susan and get a glimpse into her life at the same time. One house tour and dinner later, the deal is done and Susan is inadvertently invited for breakfast at Eric’s, despite the fact that he cannot cook and has a houseful of drunken brothers when he returns home.

The next day, Susan surprises Eric with a lunch at his home, when this goes well, he insists on the breakfast date again and when he wakes up early and goes to see to his horses, he surprisingly finds Susan already up at the barn taking photographs, also to his amazement and hers, they end up in a passionate kiss before being interrupted by one of Eric’s brothers. As the days progress and Eric and Susan become more involved, Eric’s family troubles are just getting started, as well as the land, they also want to move his mother’s gravesite, then he finds out that his horse and one of the horses boarded in his barn, as well as six head of cattle have been poisoned and none survive the ordeal, including his partner in crime and best friend. He is torn up and turns to Susan for comfort, but will their newly forged bond be enough to see them through the hard times to come, or will their pasts get in the way of what could be something beautiful? As things turn from bad to worse, will Eric survive the attempts on his life, or will his Walker pride prevail and see him through? This is a romantic suspense with secrets, revelations, romance and grief all rolled up into one fantastic package which will leave you wanting to read more.

Walker Pride is the first book in The Walker Family series by Bernadette Marie. It is a western romance- it’s a sweet and touching second chances story, with insta-love, new beginnings, family, emotion, and enough dramatic developments to keep things interesting.
I enjoyed this story and liked the characters- they were well-developed with their own personalities, quirks and flaws.
Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Thank you, Bernadette Marie.

This is the 1st book in the Walker Family Series. It is a lovely story about love and overcoming difficulties. The author does a great job at making the characters likeable and relatable.

Susan has moved to Georgia for a fresh start. She has big plans t open her new restaurant. She had plans and goals. What she doesn't expect is Eric to come in a mess them all up.

Eric is a bit of a longer. Happy with his own company. After finding out he was going to lose his home because of a bet his uncle lost, Eric doesn't know where to turn or what to do...

There is an instant connection between Erica and Susan but with them both having problems in their life's can they over come them together or will secrets from their posts stop them from having a future.

Walker Pride is the first book in the Walker Family Series by Bernadette Marie. I had only previously read 1 book by this author but I had really enjoyed it and was looking forward to reading the start of a new series.
I really enjoyed this first book. This could end up being a very long series as the Walkers are one very big family and I’m sure all will have great stories to tell. AS the book continued more and more siblings, cousins etc were added to the clan.
In this book we get the story of the Eldest brother Eric. At risk of losing everything he has worked for due to a bet made by his Uncle, he’s determined to do everything possible to save his house and livelihood. He doesn’t have room for distractions but can’t help be extremely distracted by the beautiful Susan Hayes, the caterer at his Grandfather’s funeral.
I adored Eric and Susan’s story. There is so much more than just a romance story in this book. There is danger, drama and intrigue as well as feuding families. Susan and Eric are both great characters to read and I could have read about the two of them for hours and hours. This story was highly entertaining and keeps you gripped to the storyline to see what happens next.
Definitely recommend.

Walker Pride (The Walker Family Series Book 1) by Bernadette Marie
5 of 5 Stars
I found this wonderfully written novel both enjoyable and engaging and thought it was a great start to a new series and an exciting introduction to the Walker family. This story focuses on Eric Walker and Susan, Eric lives a quiet and structured life until his Uncle lost the family’s property by gambling it and Eric’s livelihood away. Meanwhile, Susan Hayes moves to Georgia to start a new career in catering and start a new life. Just when she begins to get settled Eric Walker and his family enter into her life. Eric is dealing with family secrets, someone trying to ruin his business and is being driven off his land, when he meets Susan and falls in love. As well as dealing with the fact that someone is trying to destroy the Walker family Eric and Susan can not deny their mutual attraction and obvious chemistry. Life becomes even more complicated when someone tries to kill Eric. The storyline flows well and the plot is action packed and along with the likeable and relatable characters this novel had me hooked from page one. I look forward to reading future books in ‘The Walker Family’ series.
