RAF Escapers and Evaders in WWII (Voices in Flight) Kindle Edition
During the Second World War, 156 RAF men successfully escaped from German POW camps in Western Europe. A further 1,975 men evaded capture after having been shot down over this same territory. Martin W. Bowman has drawn together tales of just a handful of these men, illustrating the bravery and resourcefulness that characterized their experiences.
British, American, and Canadian pilot testimonies all feature, as does the fascinating story of a female secret agent, parachuted behind enemy lines. By bringing these stories together, Bowman is able to capture an authentic sense of the times at hand and the reality of life as an escaper/evader during this tumultuous and incredibly dangerous time.
This is an entertaining history set to keep readers on the edge of the seats, and it serves as a tribute to the courageous individuals who found themselves behind enemy lines during the Second World War.

1.0 out of 5 stars An unfortunate mess
The book is riddled with spelling mistakes, they can't even spell "Hitler" correctly at one point, and grammatical errors.
Several of the stories have nothing to do with the RAF and the majority of the material seems to be taken from other authors' work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting stories...
...but in some cases can't be true and are unbelievable. Example: The early escapees to Spain had lots of French francs. Some were able to buy motor- and sailboats to escape. From where or whom did they get the money? In addition they were frequently stripped and searched. Evidently the large sums of money were not discovered or stolen? Hard to believe. Killing German sentries was murder and not allowed by the Geneva convention. Those that did and were caught, were shot. Hence, I believe some of the stories are made up by the escapees.
