Lifelines to Cancer Survival: A New Approach to Personalized Care Kindle Edition

REIMAGINE CANCER SURVIVAL

That’s what cancer survivor Dr. Mark Roby wants you to do. On December 30, 2002, Roby was diagnosed with one of the rarest cancers in the world and told it was unresponsive to all known chemotherapy. His oncologist suggested he “accept the inevitable,” but Roby thought otherwise.

Quickly realizing that conventional thinking would do little to help him, he created his own, personalized treatment plan targeting his specific tumor. And he survived!

This is Roby’s story, but more importantly it’s his compilation of the many resources he painstakingly discovered and wants to share with others who are fighting similar battles. With a medical insider’s knowledge of what it takes to stay alive when all the odds are against you, Lifelines to Cancer Survival is the first book to help guide cancer patients toward advanced modalities and testing, such as genetic profiling, personalized vaccines, and more. Roby wants to lead the charge of patients directing and supervising their own care.

About the Author

From a very young age, Mark Roby was intrigued with nature, health, and science. While working as a lab assistant and volunteering at an inner city hospital emergency room during his college years, Roby was drawn to the practice of medicine. He became a Physician Assistant and later obtained an advanced diploma in Naturopathy.

Roby was living in New York in 1986 when he read some of the works of Dr. Gerald Jampolsky, psychiatrist and founder of The Center for Attitudinal Healing. Later, Roby and Jampolsky became friends. And in 1991, Roby cofounded the Metro Detroit Center for Attitudinal Healing with Dr. Laurie Pappas.

In 2002, Roby was diagnosed with one of the rarest sarcomas (liver and lungs) in the world. He was told he did not have long to live and was offered only palliative chemotherapy. He knew he would have to go way beyond the standard of care if he wanted to survive. Roby became an incessant researcher and created crucial strategies that are still keeping him alive. He has had consults with hospitals in both the U.S. and Europe, and a liver transplant.

For the past three decades, Roby has held clinical positions at teaching hospitals and has served as an integrative clinician and consultant. He has lectured extensively for over 20 years on Attitudinal Healing and integrative medicine. He is also an active member of The Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine.

Roby is available for speaking engagements and consultations and can be contacted through his website (LifelinestoCancerSurvival.com).

Dr. Mark Roby is a stage-4 cancer survivor and naturopathic physician who has helped hundreds of patents survive life-threatening cancers. His treatment plan includes cutting-edge western medicine, as well as lesser-known holistic and natural approaches.

For the past three decades, Roby has held clinical positions at teaching hospitals, including Montefiore Medical Center (Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NYC) and Henry Ford Medical Center (Wayne State University School of Medicine, metro Detroit). In the last eight years, he has served as an integrative clinician and patient-centered cancer strategist.

He has lectured extensively for over 20 years on Attitudinal Healing, oncology, and integrative medicine. He is also an active member of The Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, and he's on the Board of The Emerald Heart Cancer Foundation, which supports women seeking integrative medicine.

in 1991, Roby cofounded the Metro Detroit Center for Attitudinal Healing with Dr. Laurie Pappas. He was the executive director from 1991 to 1998.

When Roby was diagnosed in 2002 with one of the rarest sarcomas (liver and lungs) in the world, clinicians from around the country predicted a short life span and offered only palliative chemotherapy. Roby knew that he would have to go way beyond the standard of care if he wanted to survive. He became an incessant researcher, looking for advanced and novel testing of his tumor, and searching for eclectic clinicians in both the U.S. and Europe who could offer him cutting-edge therapies. Along the way, Roby had a liver transplant. Based on the genetic profiles of his tumors, and the ongoing help of a researcher from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Roby is still in remission today.

Roby's story has appeared in the New York Daily News, The Detroit News, and Tami Boehmer's incredible book "Miracle Survivors: Beating the Odds of Incurable Cancer." He is available for speaking engagements and consultations and can be contacted through his website www.Cancer Strategist.com.

Roby wants to lead the charge of patients directing and supervising their own care. Read more about Dr. Roby’s journey, as well as his blueprint for cancer survival, in his life-changing book "Lifelines to Cancer Survival."

Helped save my mom, nuff said
Words can't explain the gratitude my family and I feel for finding Dr. Mark Roby. He has been instrumental in changing the way my mom lives her life. From the way she thinks about things to the way she eats, it is all different then before she was diagnosed with cancer. My mom has completely changed her lifestyle. If you have cancer, than you should read this book. Take notes, follow the resources, do your homework, and it will make a difference. If you know someone who has cancer, get them this $20 gift, if they use it there is no doubt it will help. Here is a much abbreviated version of our story: Spoiler alert (I could not wait to tell you): My mom is surviving cancer. She is an amazing woman who is so strong. She is healthy and living a fun, full life with lots of energy. If you didn’t know she had cancer (and a really aggressive deadly one at that) you would not know she is even sick. I can’t express how proud I am of her and how incredible she is to have made the changes she has. Not only that, but she continues to live these lifestyle changes every day. She continues to fight. It may be hard, but she makes it look so easy. Everyone who knows her is truly blessed and lucky, because she is not only wonderful, but continues defying all odds. She is doing this in large part because of her will and also in part because of the advice from this book and from Dr. Mark Roby. My mom was diagnosed completely out of the blue with a very aggressive cancer known as Cholangiocarcinoma. An easier way to remember it is as Bile duct Cancer. The cancer was situated in an area that is very hard to operate in and intersecting with major areas such as the liver, gallbladder and intestines. At first the doctors were optimistic they could operate, but after operating on her determined there was no way to remove the growth. The cancer was too large and in too dangerous of an area, unresectable as the surgeons called it. So they sowed her back up and left us clueless as to what to do. We immediately started researching options. But, in the beginning we really didn’t know what to do. Everything we read was doom and gloom. This is a deadly cancer. Then we heard of Dr. Roby and his amazing story from a friend. Almost immediately when he got involved things changed. With our own research we came up with some good life changes that would help my mom. But Dr. Roby’s book helped us focus on what mattered. With the help of his amazing story, real life examples, personal traumatic experiences, and sage advice we began to put a plan together. Some of plan was implemented before Dr. Roby ever got involved, but his advice helped us to fine tune our options and put my mom on the path to survival. This book is chalked full of sound advice, some of which are really simple common sense things that you just don’t think of because you are under so much stress and shock when something like this happens. Other advice is real outside of the box thinking that can give a patient the extra hand when it comes to survival. Dr. Roby teaches principles that personally helped him overcome cancer and is good advice for anyone fighting the fight. Things like a Triad of Survival, Backup Plans, Lifelines, multiple opinions, personalized treatments, building a team, and targeted medications and treatment plans are just the tip of the iceberg in this book. He gives great advice about how you have to continuously ask questions, question your doctors, treatments, do your own research, follow up with doctors and practitioners, and become your own expert. The book is also full of personal stories and antidotes from both the author and survivors he has coached. These can help give a patient and their loved ones direction and hope. In addition, there are so many resources given in this book relevant to all cancer patients. These resources are ones Dr. Roby and his patients have used in the past and are extremely useful. In fact, this resource alone would more than pay for the cost of the book. Besides writing a great book Dr. Roby has personally consulted with my mom and our family throughout this ordeal. He is a true expert and we are very grateful. Picture is of my "sick" (only in the fact that she has this cancer) mom and sister just taken last week and over a year and a half after diagnoses. The book is well worth it, buy it!

Mark Roby's" Lifelines to Cancer Survival" has definitely been a wonderful blessing from God to us, as has Mark himself and his lovely wife Kathleen. My wife and I have a holistic medical practice, as well as both of us being Board Certified physicians in separate specialties. It was a shock when my wife was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer last year. The local surgeon we consulted immediately recommended total radical mastectomy. After consulting several colleagues in the traditional medical as well as friends in the holistic field, and through a series of conversations, books- including Mark's, various meetings, trips, etc., we wound up in Michigan visiting Mark professionally (a 9 hour trip for us), and also getting together with him & his wife.
Thank God we were led to Marks book" Lifelines". Mark gives his readers a comprehensive approach which guides patients towards individualized cancer care, all based on his own remarkable experience, which he shares in detail in this important and well written book. This involves setting your intention to survive, building your team & inner circle and instituting anticancer nutrition & supplements as well as other life supporting strategies. Additionally, he suggests researching your tumor, seeking multiple integrative medicine opinions and building your "Triad of Survival" as solid backup plans. Mark shows patients how and when to get cutting edge molecular profiles on their tumors, along with chemosensitivity assays if appropriate to help research & possibly guide their own care, along with other things that he might recommend depending on one's individual situation. These concepts are typically never even suggested in traditional cancer care, and are not something we would ever have thought of on our own, but because Mark has explored or gone through every one of these steps on his own journey, he is uniquely qualified to help others navigate the overwhelmingly confusing and terrifying maze of choices one is inevitably faced with when they face this challenge. Because of Mark and some of the people he introduced us to, we found a surgeon who we could never had found without him who was a really good fit for us, & who also had some significantly different recommendations than the first one. We are still on our journey, and are so grateful that Mark is there. Mark offers the 'best of both worlds'- including the importance of medical science as well as positivity and spiritual support in pursuit of ultimate healing.
The point is: if you can't take the time to research all of this yourself - and I don't know anyone who has the luxury & clarity of mind to do it effectively when you are going through it under such great stress & duress, then the next best thing is to find someone who has done it himself and who is passionate about it and willing to help. That's Mark. God bless him.

For decades Mark Roby PA-C has provided me with specific holistic and integrative health guidance helping me to remain vigorous and productive into my early sixties. I am witness to much of what he went through before, during and after his deadly diagnosis.

Mark was on his death bed several times yet by his faith and the will to live, had the guts to ask tough questions to learn more and the courage to try new approaches, such as non FDA European chemotherapy.

I was a part of his team that accompanied him to MD Anderson (Houston TX), Northwestern Memorial (Chicago IL) and the Cleveland Clinic Ohio for consultations, procedures and surgery. Month after month, year after year, I watched Mark get knocked down but he got up and responded in positive and courageous ways.

Mark is one of a handful of people to survive one of the rarest sarcomas in the world and for more than 13 years.

This book is not filled with superfluous information. It is concise, to the point and filled with novel, cutting edge cancer survival strategies. They include molecular profiling, animal surrogates and personalized vaccines. Additionally, Mark guides the reader on how to incorporate these technologies into building their own "Triad of Survival".

I retired from the Defense Department where national security relied on integrative strategies; which is what Mark explains how to do for surviving cancer. He explains the value of tactics such as adapt and respond, resource optimization along with back up plans and how they help patients stay alive.

Knowledge is power and sometimes survival. Fearlessly ask questions. Research and seek answers.Go to as many additional sources as you can. Try as many new things as you can. Figure out who can do what for you, then delegate, delegate and delegate some more.

Take detailed notes, keep records and fill in the knowledge gaps. Be grateful for whatever you can get and get as much help as you can. Glean Mark's wisdom and find the "Best Science Available" to fight your type of tumor. Read the book. Be the survivor. - Steven Kaniuga

In a world in which most traditional oncologists possess only a certain body of medical knowledge, and do not have the time or the inclination to research each individual's specific type of cancer, most cancer patients are given the few options that are familiar to their doctors. In his brilliant new book, Mark Roby not only has described his own successful fight against cancer, but also has researched new and innovative approaches to use in the battle. It's as if Mark has pulled information from several different specialty areas devoted to destroying cancer cells, healing, and living a life of wellness. Mark has done for himself what no one doctor could or would do for his patient. And now this information is available to the public in the form of the book, "Lifelines to Cancer Survival." The pages present a roadmap for anyone challenged by this devastating disease in any form.
Mark's journey began with a grim diagnosis in the early 2000's. After his initial grief, anger and depression, he began his research into the inner war he was to wage. With an incredible will to live, he investigated allopathic, modern medicine, complimentary medicine and holistic approaches, resulting in an enormous body of knowledge encompassing spiritual, mental, psychological, financial, physical, nutritional and personally targeted material.
Mark is an incredible teacher to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer. Many parts of the book are even appropriate for individuals with other illnesses. Mark's insight, passion, wisdom and empathy are apparent in every chapter. In summary, this book is a true gift.
