Finally an historical time travel with factual historical details! Not that is has never happened before, but somehow, most authors conveniently forget that 13th century English would be totally unintelligible for a 20th century-born woman. I loved that there was an actual language barrier and that the heroine did not magically understand everything. Okay, it took her a week, but she also normally works as a French translator, so we can cut her a little slack... I absolutely fell in love with the hero, who, refreshingly, is not the richest and most powerful man in the land and is having some genuine issues having to do with his place in the world, etc. He's full of emotions and having him as alternate narrator and seeing how he loves her is just... *dreamy sighs inserted here*...
I wish there would have been more chapters in the end when he's in our time... (NO spoilers there, as anyone will figure this out in the first chapters.) This is a great love story! I loved the passion between the two, and how they come to care deeply for one another. The book takes course over a very short span of 3 weeks, and the heroine is somewhat ready to fall in love with the hero even before she disappears down the rabbit hole. And although I really despise and stay far away from Insta-Love romances, this one did not feel like insta-love (maybe a little insta-lust...), so don't hesitate here. Oh, it's not a complex story, and its doesn't have complicated plot twists or mysterious hidden villains... it's a good weekend book (don't start this on a work day, you won't get any sleep!). It's well written and neither the hero or the heroine get TSTL syndrome, and he made me sigh and made my toes curl, and sometimes that is just what you need, right?
P.S.: Dear author, can you make us a story where it's the Hero who is transposed in time, or where the heroine is transported to the future? We never see that, why? Would be interesting to see a 21st century man deal with 13th or 16th century demands and heroine... Well, you get my drift...

Isabelle's friend Katy from MUST LOVE BREECHES has her own time travel romance in this story.
If you are thinking of buying these books, I'd suggest you go ahead and save a little money by buying the two book set.
In book one Isabelle wrote to her friend Katy from the past, figuring an ingenious way for Katy to get the letters in the future.
She also sent her a small wooden bird that she felt should belong to her friend.
In this book Katy goes on a hen party with her good friends before marrying Preston. She felt she wanted to travel to Wales, partly because the bird was from there and she was drawn to learn more about the country.j
Katy's father left the family on her 8th birthday, because of this Katy feels she has to have extreme control of her life. She's planned to be married by thirty and Preston is a safe and comfortable choice. She planned her trip carefully and one tour she planned led the group to a small church where their guide tells them about a memorial statue of a knight who was saved by an Angel just as he was going to be hanged.
Next they go to the ruins of a castle and Katy, having doubts about her upcoming marriage, goes for a walk on her own. While walking around a cemetery she sees a man by a tombstone who suddenly disappeared leaving a small silver case.
While picking up the case Katy was thinking that she wished she knew what to do....and suddenly she was back in time in Wales.
I liked the characters and Their growth of knowledge of themselves and each other throughout the book. It was an enjoyable read and I know I will read the next book when it comes out. Angela's love and knowledge of history comes out through the book.
I will have to admit I wasn't as excited about this books chapter headings, the Welch tales weren't for me.

This was well written. Good story. However I did not care for the language barrier but being it was set in a time period of not so written about time for romance I understand it just spent way too much time coming to a mutual understanding.

This is definitely a hot and steamy book and it was well written to not be conky in word usage to describe the hot scenes. A man that takes his time and is well disciplined to not go ape shit is a dream come true.

The humor In This book is funny. I appreciated the humor and it was appropriate. The opening scene of Katy’s arrival is probably what we all would be feeling and the humor is off the chain. “This can’t be good” perfect.

Every writer has their plots and such and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but this one never lacked in consistency and kept to the story line. I get it.

If you are an inspiring writer, you should take notes from this book because she knows how to describe her scenes. Some people find it difficult to describe live scenes without using dumb words like penis, ewe. I would want to meet this guy if he existed because it felt real.

Katy I however did not have that much of a connection. Him I did because their was a connection with the writer for him. I’m the opposite. I have a hard time connecting to my love counter parts so I wish I could pick the authors brain about how she did that.

But I digress. This is a great read. I recommend it. It deserves the full stars and I live time travel romance. I don’t like bring people in the past forward because honestly, chivalry is dead in this time period and they don’t fit in. That’s just my opinion. Girl, stay in his time period and find a way to make it work! Don’t bring him forward to our land of wimpiness. (Not all men are wimpy in this era but it’s definately not a good fit for a knight just saying. Wouldn’t be my fantasy. )

Read the book. You will live it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice story, but wasn't super interested in the characters
Reviewed in Canada on July 26, 2015
The plot was for the most part interesting, although there were some scenes that felt kind of slow and boring. Strangely, those scenes are during times of great danger, yet I found them tedious to read. But apart from that, the story was mostly engaging, especially the parts about Robert and Katy's passion for each other.

Writing-wise, I thought the prose was quite well-written, and the specific verbs chosen to depict Robert and Katy's attraction (sexual tension) towards each other were especially striking and powerful.

On the other hand, though I really liked the writing on the whole, there were many sentences starting with participle phrases, which I didn't fancy very much. This may just be my personal quirk, though, as I, in general, don't really like sentences beginning with participle phrases in fiction. But I can tolerate past participles (ending in -ed) better than present participles (ending in -ing.)

Also, near the beginning of the story, there was a lot of dialogue talking about a bunch of place and people names we don't know. Now I understand that it would be natural for the knights to mention all these names, yet, when the reader sees several unknown proper nouns in a single paragraph, it can be a bit hard to process the passage.

Character-wise, I do quite like Robert as a person, whereas Katy annoys me. I sincerely feel very sorry for her, but she still annoys me for some reason, and I also wasn't very interested in her as a character. Though Robert is an honorable and likable person, I must admit I wasn't very interested in him either. So--pretty good guy, but not very curious about or intrigued by him. :(

Similarly, though I thought the story was fairly engaging most of the time, I find that when I'm not reading the book, I was not very eager to get back to it and keep reading. So you could say the book was pleasant and not bad, but I wasn't intrigued by, haunted by, or addicted to it.

All that said, I thought the author did a good job and Robert is quite a cool guy. :) And I especially loved the ending. I won't spoil it, but I'll just say here that I really liked how the story ended!

P.S. When I read the excerpt for Must Love Breeches, I actually took an almost instant liking to Isabelle! I was also a lot more interested in Isabelle and Phineas as characters already, compared to how I felt about Katy and Robert. Isabelle and Phineas's story also interests me more. Yet, these are all just my subjective opinions, as different readers like different characters.

A reason why I seem to like Must Love Breeches more than Must Love Chainmail, is because I'm more familiar with the Recency period than with the Medieval times. Maybe because I read a lot of Jane Austen, but don't know much about the Middle Ages except for some stuff from middle school history classes, and from some Medieval lit we read in university English classes.

And so Must Love Breeches is now on my Amazon Wish List. :)

Really enjoyed this time travel romp. Although it was rather predictable it was still a fun and enjoyable read. Went straight out and bought the first one. They don't have to be read in order, but it might be useful, as some aspects go across the stories it seems.
