Nadia “Hope” Moore always feared that being married to her super spy husband, Mickey, would get her – or him, killed. The man simply doesn’t know how to quit when he’s down.

Or, about to be executed. It’s her worst nightmare come true when she is sent stateside, only to leave Mickey behind to be captured and sent to gulag. But she’s not going to let him die, even if he has betrayed her.

The last thing Mickey wants is his beautiful wife to spring him from gulag. Execution is the price of his stupidity, and without the ability to get word to Nadia, she’ll walk right into the same trap. But when his worst nightmares seem to come true, he’ll have to choose between saving the woman he loves, and becoming the traitor his country has branded him.

Although I attended the U of Minnesota, I’m a woodsy girl at heart. Or maybe I’m an adventurer—having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia, Russia as a missionary for eight years. That’s why my characters seem to get into one scrape after another—they’re too much like me! I love God, my family, my country, my church, and feel privileged every day to be able to write stories.

And my 'official' bio:

With nearly 2 million books sold, critically acclaimed novelist Susan May Warren is the Christy, RITA, and Carol award-winning author of over ninety novels. Known for her compelling plots and unforgettable characters, Susan has penned contemporary and historical romances, romantic suspense, thrillers, rom-coms, and Christmas novellas. With books translated into eight languages, she's a USA Today, ECPA and CBA bestseller, and has received numerous starred Publisher Weekly reviews. Library Journal says, "Warren’s characters are well-developed and she knows how to create a first rate contemporary romance.”

Susan is a nationally acclaimed writing coach, and winner of the 2009 American Christian Fiction Writers Mentor of the Year. She is the founder of Novel.Academy, author of the popular writing method, The Story Equation, and a founding partner of Sunrise Media Group.

It would help if you didn't plan on sleeping much while reading this book. It's hard to put down. Nadia's husband, Mickey, who happens to be a spy, is being held in a Russian gulag during the Cold War. But Nadia also happens to be a spy - a gutsy one at that, and she is intent on rescuing her husband from his prison. Her daughter deserves to know her dad. Nadia has some contacts in Russia but isn't entirely sure which ones she can trust. The trick will be to get him out of the gulag before he faces the firing squad. This book is the second in "The Heirs of Anton" series. I read the first one several years ago but didn't realize at the time that it was part of a series. I've decided that I like to read series books, one right after another, so I don't get too confused about who the characters are. This series is interesting because each successive book is from an earlier era. So far, I'm loving it!

My heart ended up in my throat at the end of this second historical that is set in Russia during the Cold War era. That said, the story began like a steam locomotive from that time slowly pulling from the station. The hero and heroine dithered back and forth fighting their feelings far too long. I just wanted them to surrender to their love and get out of Russia before the KGB caught up to them. In some ways it repeated the first story, although set two years later. To pick up on the steam locomotive image, once in motion, it would have barreled along at an unstoppable clip. It didn't. The story felt like being on a "milk run" starting, stopping then being shuttled onto a side track to let the express train roar by. This story had express train potential. I kept wondering when it was going to grab me. It did . . . in the last third of the book earning it four stars. I'm still going to read the next book in this series.

I just finished The Spy Who Loved Me, and thought it was a masterpiece. There was action, suspense, mystery, a die hard and loving marriage, and I finished it having learned not only a little about Russia, but about God. I loved it. I've only completed this one, From Russia with Love, and The Shadow of Your Smile, but each book has been beautiful, uplifting, and surprising. Every time I expected the use of a cliche, I was blind sided by the clever and realistic handling of the situation. The story never get bogged down with love triangles or became stagnant from miscommunication, which was a major plus! I really enjoy the backward approach to the Heir of Anton series. I've never read a series that progressed backwards time wise, instead of forwards. Its a unique twist, although now I have to go back to the first book to see what happened to Hope and Mickey because I don't remember!
It was a clean but beautiful story, just like every other book by Susan Warren I've read so far; full of action and sweet romance that drew me closer to God. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a fulfilling adventure with a powerful romance and uplifting message.

The Spy Who Loved Me by Susan May Warren is the second book in the Heirs of Anton series. This is the story of Nadia and Mickey, aka Ekaterina's parents. I do find it weird that we started with the present day story and are moving backwards with a generation each novel, but I am sure Downs and Warren had a reason for doing this. Nadia's story is interesting and really doesn't focus a lot on Ekaterina. It is more the rescue and convincing of Mickey to return home to the states and stop doing Russian spy work. The plot does drag some. It is definitely not a fast moving story. There are moments where Nadia and Mickey end up in a situation that they have already been in. I enjoyed reading more about Ekaterina's parents, and there is still more questions left unanswered that I hope will be answered in Marina's and Edward's story. Overall, the story The Spy Who Loved Me didn't have enough fast action for me, but the characters and their story intrigues me. I think fans of spy novels or historical suspense should pick up this novel.

I love all four of these books. Out of everything I have read by Susan, The Heirs of Anton are my favorites! I have them on my kindle but would love to listen to them if they were ever available on audible! I recommend reading all of them, starting with book one. I ended up reading them out of order, they were still good, but I think I would have followed better had I read them in order. By far my favorite though!

I was a little depressed at the end of this series but this book was great. It's interesting because the series plays backwards. Each book takes you back in time another generation. When I was done, I almost wanted to go back and read the first three in the opposite order to pick up on details I had forgotten.

Enjoyed the intrigue of this mystery! It kept you guessing as to which character was the friend and which was the snitch! Also it brought out the fact that we need to evaluate our motives as to whether we are serving God or ourselves. We can start out following God's direction and then take over for our purposes and not realize it!

I gave this story a rating of five because it kept me interested. Having grown up in the cold war era you're story brought to light the hardships and suspense of being an agent. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes a good clean romantic spy novel.
