Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot
Good morning my dear, naive friend,
I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.
Why?
Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c'mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.
He's the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it's followed by “don’t stop.”
Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.
Regretfully yours,
Lily

- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2015RS Grey had some huge, hilarious shoes to fill after The Allure of Julian Lefray. I couldn't wait to get my greedy hands on Dean and Lily's story and I knew without a doubt that Grey wouldn't disappoint me. The Allure of Dean Harper is witty, charismatic, delightful and all around a well... an alluring read. :)
I found myself laughing out loud at the hilarious antics Dean and Lily either conjured up or found themselves in on more than one occasion and I fell in love with both Dean and Lily's head strong personalities - the way they took no prisoners and knew what they wanted and weren't afraid to go after it.
And for those of you who loved Julian & Josephine, no worries. They're present throughout the book and are just as charming as always. What I loved about Dean & Lily's story, though, is that it wasn't all roses and rainbows for the two of them. Their relationship doesn't come easy, but to them, that's what makes it worth it.
TAoDH is yet another fabulously funny story from RS Grey. I can't wait to see what she has coming up next. It will no doubt be incredible.

4.5 stars!!
“...One day you’ll wake up and realise that you’re completely alone, and your insides will twist with regret. No man is an island. Not even you.”
This was another fantastic read from RS Grey. We have two extremely alpha characters and you just knew from the onset that these two were going to fight and it was surely going to make for some entertaining reading and it did just that.
Lily was a fiery redhead, she was sassy, she was confident in her work, she was stubborn, she was hilarious but she was also extremely lovable. Having moved to New York with huge aspirations Lily was soon brought back down to earth with a bump when she saw how fickle New York really was. She had just finished culinary school and had also been a top grade mixologist having also attended a bar tending program and had done everything possible to help herself attain her career goal of working in the restaurant business. Lily was also Jo’s best friend and had come to New York as Jo had told her that Julian’s best friend Dean owned a chain of restaurants so there could be an opening for her to get her career off the ground.
Having sauntered into one of Dean’s restaurants unknowingly and seeing them struggle, Lily plants herself behind the bar for an on the job interview and having put her Tom Cruise Cocktail’esque bar tending skills to good use the on duty manager is extremely impressed. However, when an obnoxious customer comes in and really pushes all of Lily’s buttons she does not hold back...but it just so happens that this tricky customer is the owner, Dean Harper.
“Being a diabolical villain was definitely a good look for me.”
Dean was a work-a-holic, he was highly successful, young and entrepreneurial, he lived for success, he wanted the accolades...or so he thought. Everything else in life was put on the back burner for work and that included his heart and he definitely didn’t have time in his life for a little sassy firecracker who told him his cocktails were old fashioned and basically...crap!
“It was time to get to know the enemy.”
These two were definitely enemies, they absolutely hated each other and there is nothing better than a good enemy to lover’s story. I loved Lily with a passion, she stood up for herself and took no crap from anyone, especially Dean and it was this trait that tended to get her into trouble the most. Dean and Lily are very similar in that respect, Dean is far from used to anyone challenging his ideas or decisions so you always knew that when Dean employed her after pressure from Jo and Julian that this workplace was going to get sooooo much more interesting.
“He was wrong; I didn’t love it as much as him. I loved it more.”
The spats between these two had me in hysterics at times, yet underneath those cat fights was undeniable sizzling chemistry and both of them knew it. The trouble is with stubborn ass people is that they don’t give in easily and it was this push and pull that keeps you glued from page to page. For me their fighting though was more like foreplay and the more they fought the more heated it got and it was only in the heat of an argument that you could see slight chinks in their emotional armour, those little slivers that peek out and let the other one know their real thoughts and feelings. It is this explosive reaction to each other that leads to some explosive scenes between the sheets and these two certainly warmed up my kindle.
“If only she and I could shut up for ten minutes, the sex would be the best of lives. Angry. Hard. Fast. Not love. Not even close. War.”
With two characters that don’t trust easily and have an intense love/hate relationship this book has something for everyone. We have some terrific banter, a bit of angst, that fantastic push and pull wrapped up with some fiery sexual tension and underneath we have two characters that really deserve to experience love. Even amongst all this fire we have some fantastically tender scenes that will melt even the coldest of hearts and you will be championing these two all the way.
“...I wanted to climb and climb and climb, but the top turned out to be an even colder type of isolation.”
This was another great instalment in this series from RS Grey and I cannot wait to see who she has in store for us next.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2016Ok, so after reading The Allure of Julian Lefray and meeting the two main characters of this book, I couldn't wait to jump right in. As I've mentioned before, I love angst and with a description of "oil and water" for these two, I was hopeful that I would get my fill. R.S. Grey did not disappoint, because as much as I love angst filled stories, I also love the hate turned love stories too and in this book I got both.
Lily Black is Josephine's best friend who just moved to New York from Texas. She too is a blogger, but instead of fashion like Jo, her area of interest is food. She even went to culinary school and finished bartending school just so she would be the best at connecting people with good food and drinks.
"I lived for good food. The way some people got runner's highs, I got food highs."
Lily and Jo are alike in that they are not afraid to chase after their dreams. I love this about them. Julian happened to mention to Lily that his best friend Dean owns his own restaurants and he may be able to help her find a job and get on her feet.
Usually Dean has a say in all of the employees that are hired, but he's out of town and his restaurant is short staffed. So what does the manager do? Hires Lily of course. She is excellent at her job too. She even makes drinks for customers that are not on the menu.
"I like to play by my own rules."
She brings in more money in one night than they usually make. That's good right? Yeah, until she sees a gorgeous guy in a suit walk in and sit down. He comes across as harsh and annoying at first. She doesn't give him any special attention, in fact, she ignores him some. When she finally gets around to filling his drink order he doesn't like it. He makes her remake the drink, again not liking it. A few words between them and she's then made aware that he's Dean Harper, her boss, well that is until he fires her.
"She was opinionated and too stubborn for her own good."
Jo and Julian try to get these two together to smooth things over. Sitting down to a nice meal and talking like adults should work, but things don't go as planned. These two can't stand each other and they don't care who knows it.
"Lily brought out my worst qualities."
But have you ever heard that saying..."keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Yeah, well that was what Dean had to do when it came to Lily. As much as he hated to admit it she was the most qualified to work for him. Now, he had to convince her to work for him.
"The sex would be the bestow our lives. Angry. Hard. Fast. Not love. Not even close. War."
And let me just say the dislike between these two just makes the sexual tension that much MORE! I have to say Dean's boat should be called the "Love Boat." It has magical qualities that seem to draw people together. Jo and Julian shared a moment on this very boat. Dean and Lily's experience was a bit different, hilarious in fact, but still the boat seems to be catalyst for sparking a flame between couples.
"Lily would be the death of me, I smiled at the thought. What a way to go..."
The attraction between these two is jumping off the pages, but they are both so stubborn that neither will do anything about it. The question is, can they stay away from one another? Do they even want to? And if they do have a physical relationship, can they still work together professionally?
This book was so much fun to read. Another fantastic romantic comedy from R.S. Grey. This is only the second book I've had the pleasure of reading by Grey, but I have found a new author I love!! I can't wait to devour the rest of her books. If you were like me and haven't read anything by this author yet then I highly recommend The Allure books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I read this on the recommendation of a friend and I have to say I'm in love! With my friend for suggesting it, with the story itself and with R.S. Grey and the way she writes!
I seem to fall a little in love with all of the books that I read and enjoy and my book boyfriend list is becoming unmanageable but there is something special about this book, it's story and Dean Harper. The story is captivating and as the title suggests very alluring, especially when it comes to Dean. This story has its ups and downs like any other good story but everything feels so much better. You feel everything going on, especially through Lily. She has to be one of my favourite characters. She's stubborn, self assured and hilarious. She had me laughing out loud throughout the story. What makes her even more special is the fact that you not only laugh with her but you also feel every emotion she goes through right along with her and you also find yourself agreeing with her.
The relationship between Lily and Dean is intricate, fueled with passion and far from easy but the best things in life never come easy. There's a fine line between love and hate and these two dance it beautifully which makes this a 5* read for me. Throw in the rest of the characters and you are in for one hell of a ride and you will love every last word of it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing second book
After reading The Allure of Julian Lefray, Ashley and I had to pick up The Allure of Dean Harper immediately. Because what is not to like about a hot, fun, charming and successful bachelor in New York City?
As in Grey’s previous book, The Allure of Dean Harper has some witty, clever and hilarious conversations and monologues. However, toward the end it all felt a little over the top and intended.
Dean was a secondary character in "The Allure of Julian Lefray" and I couldn’t wait to learn more about this guy. He was so fun and charming in the previous book. Unfortunately, Dean was not appealing in "his" own book anymore. He was the total opposite of the guy I got to know in the first one: he was moody, arrogant, mean and cruel.
Even Lily was different. Of course she pushed Dean's buttons whenever and wherever she could and in the beginning it was fun to watch but the immature and childish games they played with one another were annoying after a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pas mal !
Nettement mieux que The allure of Julian Lefray. Cela tient en partie à ce que le personnage de Lily est beaucoup plus intéressant que celui de Josephine du livre précédent. Comme toujours dans ce genre de roman il y a pas mal d’invraisemblances mais la lecture en est agréable et fait passer un bon moment.
