The Sin: A Murder Mystery Kindle Edition

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 390 ratings

Deadly Family Secrets Were Hidden Behind The Sin!
Murder was a very rare crime in Sikeston, Missouri. But then, Leah Graves, the victim, was a very rare woman. She was the town everything: beauty, athlete, scholar, Cotton Bowl queen, spoiled brat, and royal bitch. Even her daddy, the richest, most powerful man in town couldn't control her.
Leah knew at a young age how she affected men. She certainly had her father wrapped around her little finger and only laughed when he tried to warn her that someone as pretty as she was would cause members of the opposite sex to want to do things... sinful things.

An excellent story but unfortunately the author chose to use numerous slurs when referring to various groups of people which detracts from the quality of the book. A wealthy man tries to use his power to influence a murder investigation to punish a rival. Meanwhile the authorities try to unravel the facts of the case while dealing with the obstacles thrown at them. The book has an excellent plot.

The Sin: A Murder Mystery by Author Robert Vaughan

Having already read and reviewed a couple of western novels by talented Author Robert Vaughan, I was eager to read this murder mystery and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. It grabbed me right from the first page to the last. Immediately caught up in the murder of beautiful and rich Leah Graves, this “whodunit” was hard to put down.

Mike Carmack, the editor and publisher of the local newspaper in the town of Sikeston, Missouri gets caught up in trying to help solve the murder. He works in tandem with the police chief, Stump Pollack who has his work cut out for him. Big Clay Thompson pretty well owns the town and the untimely death of his only daughter Leah, leaves him fit to be tied. He is determined to take matters into his own hands and prove that his former son-in-law, Dr. Ned Graves has done the dirty deed. Stump and Mike Carmack are not convinced and they have a big job ahead of them to prove otherwise as incriminating evidence keeps popping up in the most unexpected places. It smells like a set up but…

This twisted murder with the "unusual" suspects of Big Clay himself, or Leah’s brother Joe Dean possibly being involved, add to this mind boggling murder mystery…or is there another more violent and vengeful man at large? Could it be the redneck Harley Mack Jenner? This is not your ordinary murder case…Leah’s macabre death proves otherwise and then a second murder takes place. Are the murders connected? If so, how? So many questions, so few answers unless you read more.

Kudos to prolific Author Robert Vaughan for another great fictional novel. A captivating read to be sure!

The offensive slurs used multiple times are uncalled for and do nothing but take away fron the storyline. If you don't appreciate the use of the N word, etc. (as hopefully nearly none of us do) I wouldn't even recommend this book since the use of the slurs is completely pointkess with regards to the story line.

When I first started reading the book, I too was shocked by the language, however (spoiler alert)
the book is set in 1978.
Once I realized what time period we were in the language made sense and the author was writing
in regards to how people spoke back then.
The book was good and entertaining.

I'm sorry. Not every writer is Agatha Christie, or even Michael Connelly, but if you haven't figured out "who done it" in this 'who done it' within the first third of the book you'd be best not to consider yourself much of a mystery buff. The characters are utterly forgettable, including those who should have been memorable if for nothing else the criminal acts they commit. I just don't see this writer as having any particular knack for generating a confusing world of multiple suspects who could be weighted equally in the readers attempting to solve the crime themselves, which, face it, is the primary fun of being a mystery/police procedural buff. The structure and language was OK so the writer does have some craft but this genre is not their forte.

As story of a twisted/dysfunctional family set in redneck country of Missouri before cell phones and calculators and desk top computers. At times reads like a poorly written script and at times very well done

When a rich man's daughter is savagely murdered the woman father tries to have her ex husband charger with her murder. The only problem is......he didn't do it. The character's were likeable but multi layered. Evidence was planted that muddied the waters An interesting who done it.

This is a great murder mystery that will hook you in and keep you wondering "who dunnit" until the end and when the murderer is revealed you will be very surprised because technically he is the most unlikely candidate! The murderer is a clever and knows his stuff and this makes it hard to uncover the truth.
Beautiful Leah, the apple of her father's eye is found brutally murdered with horrifically her nipples severed, and a vibrator rammed up her you know what and there is a picture placed between her legs. Why? You will keep wondering. Ned her ex husband is one suspect and Joe Dean is another. What will his secret be? Stump claims to know the community well so maybe he has the answer. Pete has nightmares about Vietnam but he's discovered something and will suffer the same fate as Leah.
This author seems to know a lot about how the police and courts work. His research is thorough and all the procedures are true to life. He weaves in typical black humour found within the police and health professionals
