Don't miss your chance to meet this sexy playboy boss in a seductive reissue from reader-favourite Carole Mortimer.

One night with her playboy boss…

Alexander Blair is definitely the wrong man for Lauri. Not only is he a shameless playboy with a revolving door to his bedroom, he's also older than her—and her boss! He's everything that Lauri
doesn't want. Yet the undeniable attraction between them is almost too strong to resist…

So when Alexander suggests that the best way to get over their desire is to give in to it, it sounds like a reasonable theory… But, in practice, their passion for each other doesn't work that way!

Absolutely love this story and the characters. I first read this book in the 90's and have re-read it a couple dozen times since. If you like younger girl with older man, a lot of arguing, some humor, and drama this is the book for you.

This book is from 1981 and it shows! Their actions and words in this book that are considered unacceptable and inappropriate today. For instance, the main man slaps the woman across the face twice in this book once for hysteria and another because he’s mad. He also bruises her breast at one point because he’s frustrated and calls her stupid three times in the book.

While this may be considered shocking to some young women reading this book, it can also show how far we’ve come and changing the attitudes of what is acceptable behavior towards women. Many older harlequin books would be considered outrageous today. There’s even been stories about rape And forgiveness from the main woman that I remember. In the 80s it was considered acceptable for a man to be angry possessive and even violent about it because it was passionate. It was a reflection of the times.

However the book and the storyline stands up if you take away the inappropriateness and still is a good read

Conflicted is the best word I could use to describe how I feel about this book. Not bad writing, per se. But I couldn’t get over the ages. Icky!

I have the original paperback version and I loved it. Some of the other comments speak of the difference in ages between the h and H and, granted there is 17 years between them, but that was very common in Harlequin books at the time it was written. (1981). I'm thrilled to have some of the old books now available on Kindle!!!

This book is one of the worst books that I have EVER read. I never post a review, and I read at least one book a day. First of all, the synopsis hints at an age difference but not the fact that the h is 17 and the H is 34!! If you can get past that, it is nearly impossible to Ignore the fact that there is absolutely no romance between the two characters. I am still trying to figure out what the h was attracted to, but it is easy to tell that the H is attracted to her body. The characters spend nearly their entire interaction with each other yelling at one another and throwing insults back and forth. I am by no means one of those readers that shudders at the slightest hint of violence, but there is just too much here between the characters to ignore. The H slaps the h in the face 2-3 times and it is completely glossed over! I finished the book because I was hoping the characters would come to their senses and see that they were clearly toxic for one another. I was truly hoping they did not get their HEA. I gave the book one star because the subplot with the aunt and big reveal near the end was kind of interesting. Save your money and your time and skip this book!

FINAL DECISION: The writing of this story is strong and in its time it was right in the center of romance books, but not the ages of the heroine (17) and the hero (34) in the contemporary romance is just creepy.

THE STORY: Lauri Prescott is seventeen years old and just started a job in the typing pool. A run in with her boss, Alexander Blair creates sparks. The two agree that they will spend some time together in order that familiarity dampen their reaction to one another. Their story becomes more complicated because Lauri wants to keep their relationship a secret and there are many other secrets surrounding the two.

OPINION: This story is so well written that the dated elements stand out tremendously. I thought the characters were well written and the story was interesting. There are a a lot of secrets that are revealed throughout this story and the twists were fun to see. The romance story was more on the surface and did not dig deep into the emotions of the characters as would be more common in current romance books. The relationship between Alex and Lauri feels really dated. The age different is not as significant as the fact that Lauri is only seventeen. That just feels creepy to me in a contemporary romance. In addition, the discussion the two have where the hero makes a rape joke is just inappropriate. Ultimately, those issues bothered me and the rest of the book was not strong enough for me to overlook it.

WORTH MENTIONING: This book was first printed in the early 1980s as a category romance.

CONNECTED BOOKS: FIRST LOVE, LAST LOVE is a standalone.

STAR RATING: I give this book 2 stars.

Not the best Carol Mortimer but certainly good. Read it in one sitting. Passionate, intense and had me smiling a lot throughout.

This was the first romance novel I ever read and am so pleased its available for Kindle. Though areas of the book are definitely dated (the age difference would be kind of creepy in this day and age) it still holds up really well - i love the h, she may be young but is fantastically fiesty and unafraid of standing up for herself. Great story line and engaging characters. Well worth a read.

I'm a fan of this author's but I found this story bordering on the ridiculous, that a man of 34 would fall for a 17 year old girl who behaved like a spoilt child most of the time. I was so fed up with her constant arguing that I started skipping pages to get to the end. How he put up with her is beyond me. Not one I'll ever read again.
