Driftwood Point (The Chesapeake Diaries Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 791 ratings

A man takes a second chance on love with the high school crush who once broke his heart in this small town romance from a New York Times–bestselling author.

Up-and-coming artist Lisbeth Parker finally has a chance to show the folks back home what it means to leave Cannonball Island and make something of yourself. As a native whose stubborn father forbade her from befriending townies in neighboring St. Dennis, Lis always felt like an outsider. So while her work is on display in the local art gallery, she records her ailing centenarian great-grandmother’s stories of the island’s rich history and spearheads a fight for its survival.

Lis was Alec Jansen’s secret dream girl growing up, even after she flat-out refused to be his prom date. Now the handsome environmental engineer and the whip-smart beauty are on opposite sides of a debate over the island’s future. Hired to prove that developing the shore will have little impact on the area’s natural integrity and huge gains for its economy, Alec is determined to change his alluring, headstrong rival’s mind—and to win her heart.

Mariah Stewart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of romance, romantic suspense, and women’s fiction. Her current contemporary romance series, the Chesapeake Diaries, is set in the fictional town of St. Dennis on Maryland’s Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, about which #1 bestselling author Robyn Carr says “rich characterizations, a charming setting, and romances you’ll never forget will have you packing your bags for St. Dennis”. She’s also the author of nineteen bestselling romantic suspense novels, including the MERCY STREET, DEAD, TRUTH, and LAST series and the classic stand-alones, BROWN-EYED GIRL and VOICES CARRY. A native of Hightstown, New Jersey, she lives and gardens amidst the rolling hills of southern Chester County, PA, with her husband and a couple of rambunctious rescue dogs. She's the mother of two grown daughters – a psychologist and a prosecutor – and the grandmother of some of the cutest kids on the planet. If Mariah Stewart wrote it, you know its got to be good. I believe I have read every one of her books, going way back. Just when you say this book is her best she writes another and you say its the best. My problem is, she can't write fast enough.

What a lovely, sweet read. I just adored this visit to The Chesapeake Diaries. I was captivated the whole time, I really tried to stretch it out but I just could wait to see how it ended. Reading this series always makes me smile, Mariah Stewart writes in such a way that you are literally strolling around in this town.

Lis and Alec story was so lovely. And I loved hearing about the history surrounding Cannonball Island. Ruby is such a character. I wish St. Dennis was real so I could visit. I am really looking forward to the next book. It's like visiting old friends when I read this series.

This is the tenth book of the Chesapeake Diaries by Mariah Stewart. I have enjoyed the series and feel that the characters of Sinclair Point and St. Dennis are old friends. Mariah Stewart is an author that I have read for many years and have never been disappointed by her books.

Lisbeth Parker grew up on Cannonball Island near Sinclair Point and St. Dennis. The history of Cannonball Island is very interesting. The island became inhabited many years ago by residents of St. Dennis who were driven from the town because they were British sympathizers. Many left their homes and businesses behind with nowhere to go but wound up on the island. They mostly made their living as fishermen on the Chesapeake Bay--some still do. In modern times, the children who grew up on the island went to school in St. Dennis but felt the division. Lisbeth's father forbade her and her brother from making friends with the townspeople. Now, Lisbeth is an accomplished artist coming back home to showcase her work and show people that someone from Cannonball Island can make something of themselves. As she stays with her great grandmother Ruby, who helped raise her, she revisits memories of the area. Ruby owns a small store on the island as well as some prime property. She is a wise woman who has watched many comings and goings during her 100 years and knows that times are changing for Cannonball Island. Development is coming.

Alec Jansen is an environmental engineer who has a love for the area, especially Cannonball Island and its history. He is friends with Ruby and they have had many talks. He has remodeled the residential part of the store where Ruby lives to make it more comfortable for her. Ruby trusts Alec to oversee changes that are going to take place on the island. Alec has cared about Lisbeth since high school and never understood why she turned him down when he asked her to prom. Upon her return to the island, she didn't trust the relationship between Alec and Ruby because she wasn't sure of his intention but slowly that changed.

This was a sweet book that showed how life never stays the same--change is always happening. It was fun to see the closeness develop between Alec and Lis and to see how Lis revisits her roots and realizes that her life on the island was not all bad. Thanks to Mariah Stewart for the Chesapeake Diary series.

Oh, how I loved this book! The characters are so finely drawn that I just wanted to make friends with all of them. Liz & Alec are wonderful and everyone should have a Gigi in their family. Mariah seamlessly integrated the new characters from Cannonball Island with our old friends from St. Dennis so that we could catch up with them while getting to know new characters and a wonderful new location. This book is a MUST read!

Mariah Stewart has been a favorite author since the publication of Moments In Time, her first book. I've enjoyed her stand-alone novels and all of her series, but the Chesapeake Diaries series is my favorite. Mariah has created a perfect setting for her characters and their stories and Driftwood Point is another terrific entry. I loved Lis and Alec and who wouldn't want GiGi for a great-grandmother? All of Mariah's characters are people you'd like to know. And St. Dennis? Well, it would be my #1 vacation destination spot.

Thanks, Mariah! I can't wait for the next one.

Driftwood Point is such a charming story. It immediately wrapped itself around my heart and I couldn't put it down. The characters, especially Lis, Alec, and Gigi (Ruby) are well-developed and likable. I felt I was right there on Cannonball Island and St. Dennis with them. Mariah Strewart has a way of weaving a story and characters that pull you in and never let you go. Loved it.

I have read and enjoyed every book written by ms. Stewart. This story held my interest, and I recommend it, but I see her next book coming in the spring will be almost twice the price for the same length,384 pages. Too much for an eBook. For seniors or people on fixed income, its overpriced.

First of all, a confession--I'm obsessed with the Chesapeake Diaries series. Have them all! Love them all! Mariah Stewart writes about several families and all of the branches of all the trees. The town of St. Dennis is home base for most of them. The idyllic town on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay is where I want to live. I have no idea how Mariah keeps all the family relationships straight. I'd need a spreadsheet for sure! But I hope she keep writing these. They are my favorite books. Thank you, Mariah!!!
