Editorial Reviews

Review

"This fully illustrated hardcover beginner’s guide to college is as funny as it is smart." -- Christina Vercelletto ― CNN

"When I graduated from high school, I received an incredible gift from my mom. It was
Goodnight Dorm Room—a playful spin on the children's classic for those heading off to college.

The book, written by Sam Kaplan and Keith Riegert and illustrated by Emily Fromm, offers light-hearted advice for incoming freshmen. Most people reading
Goodnight Dorm Room would laugh or smile as they read rhyming verses full of jokes, life advice, and everything in between.

Instead, I bawled my eyes out.

I still can’t quite figure out why this 64-page picture book hit me so hard.
Goodnight Dorm Room didn’t say anything particularly troublesome. It didn’t tell me that college would be a frightening, hopeless venture or something worth dreading. It wound up only painting a picture of college that was full of possibilities, opportunities, and change, and that is what scared me." -- Matt DiSanto ― Onward State

"This book is actually really funny." ―

Cute book, but it has marks on it like it was used.

Cute book, but it has marks on it like it was used.
Ordered this book a while back. I got the "New" one as it was going to be a gift. Got the book and it has marks all along the sides. Can't order a new one at this point. Disappointed with the appearance.

Hands down - amazing book. It is a great spin on a classic childrens book - intended for adults kids and college students. The illustrations are fun and unique - they make you smile through out the entire read. It is genuinly full of some solid advice that I hope my brother and his girlfriend listen to as they embark on the college journey. It makes me nostalgic for my own college experience. I wish someone had reminded me about all the things the student health center can do.... this book is every college kids BFF! It really helps you navigate through the ups and downs of the entire college experience - we all know there's a mix of things that happens in colllege. It's a very poetic spin on a cliche experience - definitely a fun way to send your loved ones on their new journey! Highly recommend this book. Love the book!! HIGHLY recommended, great gift for high school graduates. I wish I knew more college kids to pick it up for :)

Cute book! Absolutely loved the illustrations! That part really made the book fun to read. It is not designed to be a manual for moving into dorm life, just touches on things to think about when preparing to move in.

I bought this book for my younger cousin as he prepares to head off to college, and I'm very glad I did so! I haven't gifted it yet, but just looking through it made me pine for my college days. The illustrations are whimsical and fun, and the light-hearted prose makes reading it a joy as well. Despite these friendly appearances, the book is packed with useful information and general college/life advice. The author strikes a nice balance between what needs to be done to succeed in college, and encouraging the young reader to enjoy themselves while living that college dream. The advice is really good, and the author doesn't get bogged down in absolutes, but instead gives reasonable and helpful general advice on how to have a good college experience. While some may disagree, I think it would have been comforting and delightful to have this jolly guide to help with surviving that period between the end of high school and the beginning of real life.

A wonderfully nostalgic book that ends up being extremely helpful and insightful about college life. The book is optimistic and filled with practical information that is beneficial to pretty much everyone who is in college or about to be in college. The book makes a wonderful gift for a high school graduate and will likely set many of their worries at ease. For incoming freshman the prospect of living in dorms in a college or university can be scary and unfamiliar, this book covers pretty much everything you need to know before setting foot in your dorm room. Other than the practical benefits that this book has it'll also make the same kids that read the children's book it's based off who are now stepping into adulthood smile.

This was such a fun read! I'd been looking for gifts for a younger friend who's on her way to college, and this was warm and funny...just perfect. The nostalgic throwback to Goodnight Moon is great for millennials, and the tone the book strikes is the perfect mix between encouraging and irreverent. Plus, having this as a Kindle edition means it's a great perk-up on the go for when college gets tough. Which it does! Whoever your soon-to-be academic is, they've got some tough times ahead. This book definitely conveys the kind of understanding and affection that every college student needs when the going gets rough. Plus the illustrations are delightful.

It’s just DUMB! I bought it for a gift and I’m too embarrassed to give such a “lame” book to anybody. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb!
