I loved George and Ellie

This was a great story. I just loved George and Ellie and their story was really good and kept me engaged until the end.
Ellie works in the clothing boutique and lives in a nice condo in Chicago. Ellie grew up with a mentally ill father and after an unsupervised visit she had with him as a child that ended up in a standoff with the police, Ellie didn't have much contact with him. Ellie dated some but hadn't had any luck finding the right guy.
George is a mountain man that works for the local Search & Rescue team as well as doing some construction in the summer when things are slow. George lost his mother when he was a baby and his father when he was a teen and he doesn't have anyone else. He's a loner that's extremely laconic and tends to stick with the bare essentials so much so that he doesn't even have a phone.
Ellie got a call from her father, Baxter, saying that people were after him and that he's going to a cabin in the mountains. Ellie is worried...she's sure his paranoia about someone being after him is just his mental illness but she's worried he could die hiking to the cabin in the snow. She decides to take a couple days off work and go to Colorado to find her father and make sure he's safe. When she gets to town, one of the first people she runs into is Lou and when Lou finds out that Ellie's father is Baxter Price, she's very interested in helping (since book #1 Lou and Callum have been unofficially investigating a local death and it has ties to Baxter Price). Ellie is able to get the coordinates of the cabin her father was going to and (with a bit of trouble because of his anti-social ways) manages to get George to agree to help her track her father in the wilderness.
It's winter in Colorado and the mountains still have plenty of snow so Ellie gets the appropriate clothing for the hike. Thankfully, George has all the other equipment the need and they're able to leave the next morning. Ellie isn't prepared for the stress of the hike but she does alright and follows instructions. As mentioned, George is very laconic and says more with looks than most people say with a sentence. Despite this, Ellie does eventually get him to talk and even smile and laugh as they spend more time together. They both are attracted to each other but their situation makes romantic feelings a bit difficult, especially when they realize that Baxter's fears weren't all in his head and killers are on their trail. They get through that situation but it takes some more time before everything is settled (mostly). Once things are better, Ellie and George solidify their relationship and the story ends with them starting a HEA.
I enjoyed this story greatly. I loved Ellie...I thought it was great that she was portrayed as a normal woman with her head on straight that managed to survive a bad situation and win her man in the end. She wasn't a bad-ass or a wimp but somewhere in between with reactions and such like any of us would probably feel in a situation like that. George was great and I just wish we'd have gotten a little more from his PoV. The story was very good and interesting/engaging enough that I had trouble stopping to go to sleep last night and outside sleep I didn't didn't stop reading until I was done. I'd recommend this book. :D
* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a very good job.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017I liked this one a lot better than the previous book. I adored George. He was so my catnip it wasn't funny. Gorgeous, huge, bearded, V*RGIN mountain man? I'm all over that.
And I liked Ellie, too. She was smart and determined and I really like the way she and George grew together. Their relationship progressed maybe a little too fast for me, but I'll allow it. Who wouldn't fall in love with George, lbr?
The thing that fell down for me in this book was the plot. I LOVED the first half, with all the survivalist stuff. George and Ellie trekking through the snowy mountains was again total catnip for me. All that forced proximity and heightened danger - yum.
But, then, the climax of the book seemed to happen at the halfway point and the rest of the book felt like it was aimlessly spinning its wheels. Nothing that happened after that felt particularly necessary. Yes, the bad guy got away at that halfway point, but he didn't need to. Then, in the 'real' climax, he got away again. It seemed circular and was frankly a bit annoying.
I still loved Ellie and George, I just wished their plot had been stronger and more satisfying.
One thing I'm smug about is I had guessed the identity of the killer all the way back in book one. I'm interested to see how this is resolved.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016Ellie receives a call from her mentally ill father telling her he’s in danger. She doesn’t really believe he is, but is concerned all the same. She takes a few days off from work to find him so she can bring him home with her and get him the help he needs.
George is a Search and Rescue member, but also a social recluse. He rarely speaks, just grunts, nods, shakes his head or uses facial expressions. He lost his mom when he was a baby and his dad when he was 17. He’s been living alone since. He knows the mountains better than anyone in the area.
Ellie shows up in the small town, needing a guide to her grandpa’s cabin. Very reluctantly, George agrees to take her. He is very impressed with Ellie during their trip, and starts speaking to her a little at a time. He’s shy, sweet, protective, caring, encouraging and most definitely awkward!
I loved seeing Lou and Callum again. I would have liked to seen more from Ian and Rory. Each time I read a book in the series I think “oh, this one is my favorite!” until I read the next one! Once I started this one, I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too late finishing it. The suspense keep you on the edge of your seat.
While George and Ellie get their HEA, it ends on a cliffhanger. When I got to the end, my mouth dropped open and I shouted NOOOOOOOOOOO!
This is the third book. It is a great mix of suspense and romance. It contains a continuing story line, so they are best read in order. Buy them all, you won’t be disappointed!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2016This was, in my opinion, the best of this series so far. Seriously, this was a can't-put-it-down, reading on my work breaks, in the car in the parking lot, during soccer practice and into the night until I finished it type of book. Loved George, loved Ellie, held my breath during the tense times and wiped my eyes at the tender moments. George isn't your typical H, but he gets the job done very, very well!! Ellie is a doll, she's so funny, trying so hard not to be a burden but determined to get to her dad. There was nothing about this story I didn't like.
And that ending - holy cow!!!! Did NOT see that coming!! The sneak peak into the next book (Deputy Chris' story) gave me the chills. Already preordered it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating
I followed a tip by Laurann Dohner after one of her posts on FB. So glad I did! This is an awesome series and I've read 3 books in 2 days. This last one ended on such a cliff- hanger that is so gut-wrenchingly sad. It's 5.30am and I'm still awake about to start the next book.
What I've enjoyed is that the story line flows so well between the books even though it follows different characters and the slow-burning romance is so sweet and real. Sometimes the internal monologues can be a bit long, overall the story doesn't suffer too much and the pace and action can be electric.
I rarely post reviews but I highly recommend this series. Thank you Ms Ruggle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gone Too Deep
Omg, this series is so good, I'm just devouring one book after the other. The stories are linked by the characters and I've grown to care for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It
My, my, my I'm still cooling myself down after that one and packing my bags to go search for my George, who knew grizzly, hairy mountain men could be so damn hot, handsome, sweet and protective, Ellie hit the jackpot, this story will have on the edge of your seat from beginning to end, it will also leave you stunned by the ending and wanting your own George Holloway.

4.0 out of 5 stars I took the Bait Again
After being disappointed with the second book in this series (Fan the Flames) I was hesitant to read the third one (and this book is hard to come by right now for some reason). Between the cover and the storyline, it looked the most promising and she did a great job with it up until the last quarter (which seems to be consistent with all her books). The sexual tension was building up great all along and then once again, she dropped the ball and left me incredibly disappointed. I don't know how the author can write so well and yet miss the mark EVERY single time with the love scenes. The couple starts making out, and then bam, everything stops while he has to find a condom. Just once I would like to read one of her books without this major interruption. The oddest part was how a man who had never been sexually active before magically had a box of them in the nightstand! It was just awkward and kind of ruined it for me. I sped through reading to the end after that. Also, I had a bad feeling she was going to throw some random person in as the murderer at the end and I was right. I didn't like it either. I don't think I will be trying to get my hands on the fourth one in the series. I gave it a 4 because it's still a decent read with a unique plotline.

4.0 out of 5 stars George of the jungle? More like George of the snow plow
Second time reading this book as I started the series with this one but went back to the start to read book one. I forgot about the cliff hanger at the end!
This story makes me think that it’s a bit of a retelling of George of the Jungle (aka Tarzan) but if it were set in the snowy mountains. I loved George so much. I need me one of them.
