“Hannah smiled – a ghost of a smile - happiness long since buried under the cruelty of circumstances. Their life had become a funeral of sorts where they were always grieving the loss of a child, the loss of a soldier, and now the loss of their love.” Keith and Hannah Anderson have been through three miscarriages, multiple deployments, and shared in the loss of friends to the tragedy of war. Retirement should be easy – a fresh start for the weary couple. But Keith sees the move back home to their small Oklahoma town as a step backward in a long line of failures – and Hannah as the one who left him with no choice. Hannah views Keith’s grumbling and unwillingness to embrace their new life as a reminder of the things she was unable to give him. Staring at the empty doorway of their marriage, both want to see things to change, but are unsure how to navigate all the hurt between them. Then Hannah finds a box of unopened letters from an unknown woman. She believes they could help her understand the mother she never knew. When Keith begs her to leave the letters alone, they become another point of contention in their already troubled marriage. Hannah hopes the truth in the letters will bring healing to her battered heart – but hope is scarce in her life. Will Hannah and Keith allow life to push them through another door, or can they learn to trust that God is with them, no matter what door they are walking through?

Best-selling author, Michelle Lynn Brown is a housewife, mother of three, writer, blogger, hopeless romantic, and a cuddly lap for one very large cat. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, but raised in El Paso, Texas. The Lord has blessed her with the opportunity to live in many locations, from Germany to Oklahoma, where she now resides.

When she was a teenager, her mother used to take her to used books stores at least once a month. It was there she fell in love with the written word. As a writer, she uses this passion to share with others the joy of having a personal and intimate relationship with Christ.

Like the flawed characters that grace her books, she has had many stumbles and struggles in her life. God's grace and mercy through these trials have kept her on her knees. It is from this humble position that she seeks to minister through her writing - not as someone who has it all figured out, but just someone who has figured out how wonderful and awesome God is.

What a pleasant surprise this book is! I expected another fun but predictable Christian romance. What I got was a beautifully written story about finding your way back. Back to home, back to each other, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, back to Jesus Christ.
I actually bookmarked and highlighted dialogue in "Unopened" then called my niece and read those to her. I have NEVER done that before. Ever.
    Don't miss this one!

This was a really good read. Hannah and Keith have almost given up on their marriage. Many difficult circumstances have all but shut down their communication. Anger, resentment, and bitterness color every interaction with each other. Thankfully, through interactions with old friends and family they are able to reconnect with each other, but most importantly with God. Difficulties too often take us away from our dependence on God when they should draw us closer. Thankfully they got their HEA.

Unopened is a wonderful book, a story of a couples adjusting to retiring from the militery life, going home to care for a ailing grand mother puts lots of pressure on the marriage, it was a time of hes selfish, shes controlling, she dont care he blames me, its a book ever one needs to read as when we turn 65 retire it does bring struggles as we go from one life style to another. and to move on we have to let go of what ever we are leaving behind. Unopen is a very Christian store of faith and willingnes to allow God to work in our lives. the people are so real to me it was having the last 9 years of my life unfold in front of me. i saw me in Michelle and i didnt like what i saw, communication if so badly need ed in our lifes and in Unopened we see that need and how its impossible to have a happy marriage with out it.I give this book a 5 star and i recommend it for all married couples any age we can learn from it, i am looking forward to reading book number 2.

An amazing story about a married couple (Hannah & Keith) - struggling through losing 3 infants (at birth or before), her depressions, his volunteering for deployments (military) to get away. She deciding he should retire and them move to their hometown to take care of her grandmother (who was really more her mother). They finally decided to begin attending church again and seeing a Christian Marriage Counselor - which showed each just what the other was feeling (because they were both wrapped up in how they thought - not what the other thought, etc).
And during all this, her grandmother found some letters but did not want Hannah to read - eventually Hannah does read them after a close friend figures just who the letters were addressed to.
--- There is also information about her friend & her ex husband - as they both realize just how bad it is being separated. -- Various things going on including a ranch close by that was trying to help Veterans.

A very good inspirational story about love and family and friends and forgiveness and trust in God and his blessings

"“In the beginning, Adam and Eve were connected to God. They were in fellowship with Him. They worshiped Him, relied on Him, and trusted Him.” Hannah picked up his line of thought. “But the further we get from Him, the poorer choices we make. The further we get from Him, the more lost we become. Right and wrong blurs, service gives way to selfishness, and peace, joy, and contentment are twisted and conflict is the result.”

This book is for anyone having troubles in their marriage or is married or wants to be married. There is great wisdom about our Godly walk in general peppered through the book. Be prepared to have your eyes opened to hard truths that will bring forth break throughs. I can't wait to read the next book.

This was a new-to-me- author, so I didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. The story was true to real life. I've known people who have been in almost all of the situations Hannah and Keith found themselves in – military life, miscarriages, taking care of aging grandparents, and everything piled on to create marriage issues. This book is real life. The world doesn't stop just because we have a problem or two. We have to learn to deal with it all at the same time we keep functioning in everyday life.
This was a quick read and a pretty good story until about three-fourths of the way through. It was there I noticed inconsistencies in editing (but maybe only other editors would notice?). I also felt that the end of the story was rushed. I would have liked to see the story and the relationships play out a little slower and in more detail. It kind of jumped from "everything is bad" to "everything is good" rather quickly. But those issues shouldn't keep you from reading the book. it was an enjoyable and, at times, heart wrenching, read. I will definitely pick up another of Michelle Lynn Brown's books.

I enjoyed this offering by Michelle Lynn Brown. The characters introduced me to military life and the couples who live in them. I've no clue about such things but I did enjoy. I like the refrain of doors that shut and close and what to focus on. The author merged the constant theme which was something I like. My only thing is that the book ended abruptly for me with unanswered questions so I hope they'll be answered in the next book.

I enjoyed reading of Hannah and Keith's struggles through life's dark passages. At times I wanted to slap them because they were so self focused, but I think they portray the truth of modern thinking.
The story is about a couple on a roller coaster that seems doomed to end in divorce, but the accompanying plot and extra characters give it plenty of interest.
This book deals with God and faith in a real way which I found refreshing. The solution may have been a little simplistic at the end, but it was satisfying.
Thanks Michelle for writing a real story.
