Editorial Reviews

Review

"I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the first page until the last. The author did a wonderful job of creating a story that kept the readers guessing who the murderer was. There were so many twists that I was blindsided by. I honestly couldn't get enough of this read." Sleep Deprived Book Lovers

"Brilliant, well paced story with OMG moments. There are twists and turns and just as you think you know who the killer is - BAM, more evidence is revealed and your opinion changes." Nikkis Book Nook

"There is not a single thing that I did not like about this book. The characters were well developed and perfectly flawed. The dialogue, interaction and chemistry between the cast was realistic and believable. The plot was dynamic and it had depth and layers, giving it a full, rich body. Ms. Kingwell's writing style is fantastic. I've not read a book in a single sitting in quite some time. In a word, this book was RIVETING." Happily Ever Chapter

    Review:
When I started Alex Kingwell's Extreme Pursuit, I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into. I never expected to read a novel about crime, cold cases and romance, nor to get so fully immersed into the book that I believed I was part of it.as a child, Nicky's story is a sad one when she believes that her mother abandoned her family and twenty years later she finds out from lead cold case detective Cullen that her remains were found and murder was suspected. Trying to find then truth of what happened by visiting past memories, Cullen soon realizes that Nicky's life is in danger and although he's been hurt in the last by infidelity, he still can't help but want to be near her and protect her. What had me reeling, even dizzy with trying to keep up their tempestuous relationship, was how Cullen and
Nicky were as compatible as cats and dogs hen they first met and as they spent more time together, their relationship built to something stronger and passionate. Although I've read books where the bedroom scenes are more risqué, the way that Alex Kingwell writes her book more than makes up for it since her style leaves room for the imagination and there is much drama, action, mystery and crime that surrounds and showcases the romance that I barely noticed it. It was the type of read that kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning until the last page, continuously making me second guess who was after Nicky and whether or not the cold case could be solved after twenty years. For a first time read from Alex Kingwell, I enjoyed it and I'm curious to find out what else she has in store for her readers.

J: This is just too slow. I am half way through the story and there is no suspense. Nothing. There is a police investigation which amounts to going here and there and talking to people. There isn't even a relationship, although it's a bit too soon for that, but I don't even have any connection to the characters. So far it's just BORING!!!

Great story that has you invested from the beginning. Beware! You need to find out what happens next! You will get nothing else done until you finish the book!

I'm a bit of a sucker for the idea that a perceived betrayal could have been so much more sinister. It makes my brain all mushy. I mean, for a child to grow up believing her mother had abandoned her only to find out years later that she'd been dead the entire time... yikes. That's gotta be rough to work your head around.

Nicky has to deal with a whole slew of emotions where her mother is concerned. The sledge-hammer slap of longstanding betrayal becomes grief which becomes the desire for justice. With her somewhat messed up family dynamics, Nicky really doesn't have anyone to lean on, either. Her father is wrapped up in his own grief and her sister is... I don't know. She's just not very supportive.

To say Nicky has some issues with forming lasting relationships and friendships might be understating it. She's wary of Cullen because of her work with at-risk youths and his position as a detective. She's prickly and defensive and it takes time for those walls to come down.

The deeper she and Cullen and she delve into the mystery of her mother's murder the more dangerous it becomes. It doesn't help that Nicky has a tendency to go off half-cocked and take matters into her own hands, either.

A satisfying mystery with a decent romance (I did think the romance side of the story moved a little quickly at parts, but grief can make you weird, man. Weird. So, yeah...), I found myself liking the twists and turns this book took.
