Murder behind the gates of Fremont Place was unusual…

Two children and a nanny slaughtered in the home of a rich young lawyer and his beautiful wife was unheard of. Shunned cop, Detective Finn O'Brien, and his partner, Cori Anderson, must connect the dots between the L.A. ladies-who-lunch, lawyers who skate on the edge of the law, pornographers, and Hollywood freaks.

Following a trail of bodies and shattered relationships, they uncover a horrific truth behind the murders that will either bind them together for eternity or sever their relationship in the cruelest cut of all.

“This compelling story is full of human and circumstantial tension from beginning to end.”

This is an awesome thriller by a very talented writer. I have read many of Ms. Forester's books and they are truly inspiring. You will! Not want to put it down and it keeps you on your toes. The story is well written with very well defined characters and so intense. An intriguing story that keeps you guessing until the end. Please don't read the ending first or you will spoil the entire story. This is a book for everyone to enjoy and will be fun to re-read too.

This is an interesting story. I felt drawn to this cast of characters. Cori Anderson is a detective for the LAPD. Her partner Finn O’Brien is originally from Ireland and still speaks with a brogue. He is apparently very good looking and attracts a lot of female attention. They are well matched as partners and have not crossed that invisible line into a personal relationship - yet. The storyline involves a young very successful family and the events that led to their demise. It’s an emotional experience. Fast paced and believable. I am recommending it.

Irish Detective Finn and his partner snag a case that might be their last. Not only is this case baffling, but because of something Finn did earlier in his career, he now finds himself alone in the precinct without backup except from the one person who is his partner.

The story breaks down to human greed with the killing of innocent children and the nanny who was their protector.

Detective Finn and his partner must untangle this web of death completely on their own and the truth.... is shocking

    Top notch writing !

Severed Relations: A Finn O'Brien Crime Thriller (The Finn O'Brien Thriller Series Book 1) by Author Rebecca Forster

This is my first exposure to Author Rebecca Forster and I must say it was an enjoyable experience. The mysterious murder of a nanny and two young girls takes place at Fremont Place. This is a ritzy part of the city with a gated community so the reason behind the murders is elusive.

Detective Finn O'Brien and his partner Cori Anderson are called in to solve the case. O'Brien is just back from leave and does not have the support of his fellow policemen. They consider him to be a cop killer as he shot a cop in the line of duty. The only one who seems willing to work with him is his former partner Cori Anderson.

The murdered nanny is slain in her bedroom along with the children while the parents, Sam and Elizabeth Barnett, are vacationing in Paris. Upon their return, they discover the horrific scene. The many twists and turns that ensue lead O'Brien and Anderson on a wild and dangerous chase with more deaths to follow and a macabre and puzzling link between the nanny, pornography, and the Barnett's.

Great mystery novel with an unexpected ending...

The beautifully appointed home, in a rich gated community, gave no inkling as to what had happened on the second floor. The nanny lay in a pool of blood from the gunshot wound that ended her life. The 2 girls were butchered with a knife and bore no resemblance to the chatterboxes that once lived in the house. Finn O'Brien and Cori Anderson were called to sort out the chaotic mess and find whoever had committed the atrocity. As detectives O'Brien and Anderson investigate the case it is anything but cut and dried. The parents, Sam and Elizabeth Barnett, are wealthy upstanding people in the community so the murders make no sense. They wondered if it was retribution for something or perhaps a random act of violence. O'Brien is teetering on losing his job because he'd been ostracized by the cop community for killing a fellow cop even though it wad justified. Anderson a single mother and grandmother has her problems as well. They each fight their own demons as they work to solve this case. The murders are eventually caught but something doesn't fit as Finn closes in on Sam Barnett the father and the dirty dealings that made him a millionaire. I read this book in 2 sittings. The surprise ending will catch you off guard. I highly recommend this book and author. Can't wait to read her next book.

Story line good but did not like the over the top Irish detective Finn. The story line was good & intriguing felt let down by the detectives acting & reacting blindly. Has the author ever been to Ireland and mixed with true Irish people.

I got this book for 'free' and it was worth reading.
It jumped about a bit in terms of the characters being in one place and then suddenly
in another which was a bit off putting but otherwise it was a good story and a surprising ending

I liked the scene crafting and emotional depth of the writing. The characters were credible and human.
I could not stop until I got to the ending. I kept rooting for some of the protagonists and liked it when the final bit revealing the killer and the rounding out the story were a surprise and at the same time, logical when the clues were aligned to a different viewpoint.

I have rated Severed Relations as 4 stars because it is a really good read. The storyline is very good and some parts were so exciting that I struggled to put the book down when I had things to do. The downside however, is that whilst I didn't figure out the ending in full, I did work out who did it, which sort of spoiled it for me. It's like when you watch a television drama unfold but they try to throw you off a scent in a way that is a little obvious. Or maybe I watch and read that many crime dramas that I now have a knack for figuring things out. That said, still an excellent read and fun getting to know the major characters.
