Burnin' For You: Inspirational Romantic Suspense (Montana Fire Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 781 ratings

From RITA award-winning author Susan May Warren comes a new action romance. Book 3 in the Montana Fire: Summer of Fire trilogy.

He’s loved her for years . . .

Smoke jumper Reuben Marshall is harboring a deep regret—a split-second decision that cost the life of his crew boss in a fire. It’s a grief that has paralyzed him, kept him from moving forward. It’s mistakes, and regrets like this that keep him from pursuing his long-burning interest in Gilly Priest, their pretty, petite pilot. Not only is she not interested in dating a teammate, but she’s also the preacher’s daughter. And while Reuben's not the chiefest of sinners, he’s no saint. Reuben feels like a buffalo next to her and worse, can’t seem to string two words together when she’s in his radar. He’ll just have to love her from afar...

Her dark secret keeps her from trusting . . .

Gilly Priest has worked hard to carve out her niche as a female bomber pilot in the dangerous world of firefighting. Sure she’s small, but she’s made up for her stature in courage, grit, and the tenacity to face danger other pilots wouldn’t dare to confront. And yes, she’s noticed handsome Reuben Marshall—who wouldn’t? Dependable and strong, he takes up most of the space in the room. But Gilly’s dark secret won’t allow her close enough to talk to him, let alone let herself fall for him.

A race to rescue the people they love . . .

When their smokejumper plane goes down in the northwestern Montana mountains, wounding their team, Gilly and Reuben are the only ones able to hike out to find help. But when their rescue mission turns out to be a fight for their lives against the terrain, a saboteur, and a forest fire, they discover they’ll have to put aside their fears and learn to trust each other. But will trust lead to igniting something they both long for...and fear? And can they save their team before tragedy strikes—again?

"Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow"

I feel like I need to tie some rocks to my feet to keep me on the ground right now because finishing this book made me feel buoyant and lighthearted. Susan May Warren proves that you can write an inspirational, clean romance and it still be interesting, passionately intense and exciting. The characters of Gilly and Reuben were mere secondary characters in the first book but something about their affections for each other they tried to downplay, caught my attention early on and I just HAD to read their book ASAP. I even skipped the second book because the pull was that strong.

Gilly and Reuben were two characters rich in depth that was cultivated continuously throughout the story. Reuben had issues second guessing himself after the death of his fellow firefighters in last summer's deadly blaze and Gilly had a deep rooted need to prove herself stemming from a previous incident that left her feeling weak and helpless. Having kept their feelings for each other bottled up for years, they both have to work together when their crew depends on them in dire straights. The action in this book was "seat of your pants thrilling" that had me glued to the pages until I was finished. On top of all that drama was the romantic angst between Gilly and Reuben that kept a lump in my throat but was so incredibly beautiful it made my heart hurt. Watching Gilly fight Reuben every step of the way which in turn broke him out of his quiet shell was frustrating but endearing of them as a couple because it worked as the catalyst to finally break the tension between them.

Once again I fell in love with how Warren combines real human emotion built around the message of a loving, personal God. I haven't read many books that can pull off that sort of deeper meaning without going too far into the "preaching" category but Warren has a sublime talent for lovingly cocooning everything in a sweetly intense package that really hits you in the solar plexus. I'm not sure if it's because of the overall tone of the story or if it was the romance between characters that has kept me captivated to find out what happens next (and there better be more with that ending!) but I can't give a high enough recommendation for this series. Even if you don't consider yourself "religious" there's something in here for everyone who just loves to be wrapped up in the absolute beauty and power of LOVE.

This much anticipated third book in the Montana Fire series left me breathless! When I first started reading, I had two choices. read slow and savor the story, or read as fast as I could to find out WHAT HAPPENS! I ended up with a combination of both. The first portion I read slowly as Warren laid the groundwork for events in this installment of the ongoing firefighting series. Petite smoke bomber pilot Gilly Priest and big guy smokejumper Reuben Marshall have quite a story to tell and tell it they do, exposing all their strengths and weaknesses along the way.

From the time Gilly fires up her plane for takeoff, the story really takes off, too, leaving me unable to stop reading until I finished it. I was at times nervous, calm, scared, relaxed, horrified, hyperventilating, charmed, thankful, feeling the love, well, you get the picture. On and on the emotional rollercoaster went, but I couldn't stop reading until the story ended (the middle of the night is not a good time to end up with this big of an adrenaline rush!)

Suffice it to say, Warren once again delivers an amazing, heart stopping, romantic story while bringing the goodness and trustworthiness of God to the forefront. Her use of old familiar hymns had me singing along and remembering the truth of their words. Peace for today and bright hope for tomorrow from Great is Thy Faithfulness figures prominently in the story, and rightly so, but at one point I found myself singing, He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock, That shadows a dry, thirsty land, He hideth my life in the depths of His Love and covers me there with His hand.

Burnin' for You is an exciting, phenomenal, breathtaking pageturner. I was captivated from the start and didn't want it to end, even when my heart was pounding. This story SIZZLES in more ways than one! Another hit for Susan May Warren to add to her growing lists of five star books!

I'm looking forward to the full length novel, Wild Montana Skies in October. Until then, I found a story featuring CJ St. John and Hannah Butcher will be out in September in the Candy Cane Kisses novella collection, "A Christmas story about miracles that happen when the weather outside is frightful". Thank you Susan May Warren for keeping the stories coming without too many months inbetween.

Wow! can we say this book is full of suspense and surprises! I like this couple just as much if not more than in the previous 2 books but oh is it a good story. Reuben and Gilly are made for each other but they are each keeping it a secret just to themselves. Again this author has weaved faith into the story and provides it at just the right moment. Both characters have issues in their past that they cannot let go and this colors how they react to each other and others. Can they move forward without letting those issues go? I am not going to do any spoilers but finally we get some closure on an issue from the first book that continues throughout the series. I cannot say enough what a wonderful writer this author is and how she develops the characters. She makes them so likeable and warm that I felt like they were friends and I was invested in their story. I was rooting for them in each of the situations they got into and I really cared about them. To me that is a good sign of a good writer. If I do not like the characters I will not read the book! No problem with that with this author. I also like the storyline around the fire fighters and learning more about fighting forest fires. I recommend this series, once you start reading you will not put it down.

The books in this series are good, and I liked the way the couples fell in love. I definitely appreciate the lack of f bombs, bad language, and explicit s3x scenes

Riveting storyline, I felt immersed in the action and was disappointed the book ended so quickly. Both Gilly and Reuben were down to earth people and easy to relate with. The remaining cast of characters were varied, keeping my interest.

I’m glad I read the books in order.

I think we need a spin off series on Reuben’s Family, please!
