Nuremberg: The Blackest Night in RAF History, 30/31 March 1944 Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 16 ratings

This is a brand-new, updated history of the Nuremburg Raid, taking advantage of new stores of information that have come to light in recent years. In his usual, highly-praised style, Martin Bowman's historical narrative is supplemented throughout by first-hand snippets of pilot testimony, offering an authentic sense of events as they played out. Having access to extensive archives of images ensures that this is a visually pleasing and comprehensive account of one of the most iconic raids of the Second World War.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This readable narrative of the bombing of Nuremberg integrates the first-person voices of participants and witnesses. The book is illustrated with many b&w historical photos from archives and personal family collections"

2.0 out of 5 stars Adds nothing new!

Adds nothing new to this fateful night in RAF Bomber Command history. Martin Middlebrooks's, The Nuremberg Raid, is still the definitive account of this disastrous raid and blackest night in RAF history. Martin Bowman seems to concentrate purely on churning out one book after another with scant regard to the content. This book does not offer any insights into the raid and seems to consist of stories freely available in other publications. There is no clear structure to the book(like many Martin Bowman books, being brutally frank) and I was starting to skim read long before the halfway point. If you want a clear picture of the Nuremberg Raid then go for the Middle brook offering. Still the best after nearly 40 years.
