The Five Silent Years of Corrie Ten Boom Kindle Edition

4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 469 ratings

Pam Roswell Moore had her doubts when she interviewed to be companion of the much-loved author Corrie ten Boom. Corrie's bestselling book The Hiding Place, which recounted how she and her family had hidden Jews during World War II in Holland until their betrayal and arrest by the Nazis, had launched for Corrie a worldwide ministry of travel and speaking. Awed by the spiritual challenge this companionship posed, Pam wondered how she could keep up with the energetic 83-year-old.

But God knit a strong bond between the young Englishwoman and the remarkable Dutch evangelist. Then Corrie suffered a stroke. Hospitalization followed; physical therapy; then long, loving hours at home. Corrie regained a little mobility for a time--until the next strokes hit. She never regained her speech. But the ministry that had touched millions continued as Corrie communicated through her eyes, through elaborate guessing games with those around her, through silent intercession for people God brought to mind.

For those five silent years of imprisonment, Corrie's spiritual depth offered mute testimony to her ongoing trust in her heavenly Father. The details of these years will move all who loved Corrie ten Boom. They will encourage those involved with the elderly or handicapped--and those who are themselves bedridden--that God is at work mysteriously in and through even the most incapacitated. This book attests to the truth Corrie loved so dearly: that, in spite of everything else, Jesus is always Victor.

A beautiful recounting of the final years of the life of the incomparable Corrie Ten Boom. When I first learned that Corrie’s final years were spent without language skills and debilitated by strokes I wondered why Lord would you allow that? But by God’s grace I saw this book and while it may not answer the why directly it does show that even in dying Corrie Ten Boom honoured God. Living well is hard enough but dying well is something altogether different and I can only hope that if faced with similar circumstances I too will honour God as Corrie and Pamela did. Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration, our times are indeed in God’s hands!!

I appreciated reading this tribute of Corrie’s latter years and how she continued to share her love of her Lord and Savior with others. Truly she gave evidence to the fact that “our lives are in his hands.” Until God calls us home, He has a work for us to do and Corrie demonstrated that even during these latter, more debilitating years.

If you are a fan of Corrie Ten Boom, you will be blessed by this story of the last years of her life.

I highly recommend this book. Corrie ten Boom stands out among the Lord's great ones who ever lived on earth. If you love Corrie's life stories as I do, you will truly want to read this book to complete your interest in how she lived her life in Jesus' Victory to the very end of her life on earth even after suffering a stroke that muted her mouth, but not her spirit.

This is a must book for anyone who is a care-giver of a loved one suffering in any capacity. You will discover ways to make your loved ones daily existence more bearable and dignified and your own life as well. You will find in this book that God's love is always surrounding us in the most difficult day to day struggles. Even in the suffering of your loved ones, they have much to offer us if we will take the time to share life and God's Love with them in each moment of their suffering. Their spirit is still alive even though their bodies may be incapable of daily activity and conversation. This book as well will help prepare each of us to face our own final days on earth with grace and dignity knowing the caring Love of Jesus through others who are there for us when we are most vulnerable.

Nurses, doctors, and anyone who works in hospitals or nursing homes for the aged or disabled will truly gain inspiration to continue The Lord's work you are doing with an attitude of encouragement and good-will toward those who truly need your love and attention and care at this time of their lives.

This book was a lovely tribute to Corrie and to her carers. through very trying illness and particularly when Corrie,s last stroke took away her speech. What a wonderful sample of servant hood and how important that role was in this story.
Riveting writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars a sad subject it is a very affirming book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 20, 2015
This is a sensitively written honest account of the last years of a remarkable lady's life. The insights given into communicating with those who have suffered a stroke are very helpful and are a reminder that those who seem unable to communicate are often still very aware of the life around them.
Whilst dealing with what is, on some levels, a sad subject it is a very affirming book. Above all, it demonstrates how God can make possible things that are seemingly impossible.
