- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2021I am 50 years old. Through my 40s counting calories and exercise allowed me to lose weight. Eventually it stopped working. I would ride my Peloton 6 days a week and eat 1800 calories a day, always end with a calorie deficit and the weight wouldn’t drop off. I was discouraged. I heard about this book in a Peloton group and decided to try it. I’ve been following these principles for more than 3 months and here’s what you need to know before you give it a whirl. ( I lost 19 pounds in less than 3 months (I lost 7 before I started, between January-mid March) I have lost a total of 26 pounds between January-June. If you are ready to change your lifestyle, here goes:
1. You have to cook every meal. This is a clean eating way of life. But don’t worry if you aren’t a cook. I am a horrible cook, but managed to figure out how to roast vegetables and follow a recipe. You will want to prep meals. Lunches are soups and salads and the recipes for soups net you between 5-13 16 oz. bowls. I freeze them and take out the ones I’ll eat for the work week and put in the fridge to start defrosting.
2. Your family most likely won’t be on board. Because you cut out all processed food and you can’t eat out for more than two weeks when starting this, odds are they won’t want to eat kale or squash. My family doesn’t like eating healthy. Even when I cook fish, chicken, lamb, and bison, they wanted nothing to do with it. I roast zucchini, yellow squash, shiitake mushrooms, and onions ans it was a hard no for my crew of 5. Their idea of vegetables are corn. And why can’t you eat corn? See next….
3. The facts are their are reactive foods and friendly foods. The book provides you with a list of foods that are healthy but cause inflammation, which is shown on the scale. People think bananas and tomatoes are good for them, yet those healthy foods don’t work for the chemistry of many individuals. This plan is a process of testing foods to see which ones work for you and avoid the ones that don’t. This isn’t a diet because no foods are off the table; you have to test foods to see if they fit for you.
4. You have to follow the first 20 days exactly as written with no substitutions to see results that reset your body. During the first 3 days you can expect to lose between 3-6 pounds depending on your starting weight. You are cleaning your body, removing inflammation, and resetting your body. You won’t feel hungry; you will feel good and can feel your body healing.
5. I recommend you also get the original book “The Plan” because of the recipes in it. This book has even had some updates, so after you purchase this, you need to go to the website and print off the 20 day menu plan and follow it. It is almost just like the book with a few changes. For instance, in TMP it calls for baby romaine lettuce everyday, but in the updated web version you switch between that and green and red leaf lettuce.
In conclusion, I have never felt better. Ditching processed food has made such a difference. When looking at weight loss, 80% is nutrition. In fact, I discovered my body was under stress and inflamed because I was working out too much! I dropped to 4 days a week instead of 6 and my body thanks me and I continued to lose weight. You also test exercises, so you will discover if you need to change what you do. I had to quit power zone training because I will not lose weight doing a 45 minute ride because it is too stressful for my body. I’m better with 20-30 minute rides, but I believe if I didn’t exercise some days I’d lose an extra pound.
You should totally do this! It is HARD, but if you have tried everything else, so this because it isn’t a diet, it is a healthy lifestyle of eating. I’m pretty much at my goal weight now and I can eat out or have a “cheat” day because if I gain weight, I know what to eat the next day to lose what I gained.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2020I'm a 50-year-old woman who has been suffering from debilitating joint pain (as well as on the bottoms of my feet!) for the past 4 years. I used to be an avid runner. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted, and I never had any weight issues. When I turned 46, everything changed, coinciding with peri-menopause. The joint & foot pain prevented me from being able to run--and many times, from even being able to walk around the block. My weight would fluctuate wildly. Up 3 pounds one day, down one the next. Then up a pound, up a pound, up another pound. And down two. Very sporadic, seemingly, for no reason. I started an intensive mission to figure out what was going on with my body. I was tested for various autoimmune diseases, which are always difficult to diagnose. No results ever came back with a definitive diagnosis. I started elimination diets multiple times, but could not pinpoint any specific culprits. If I hadn't gotten used to the elimination diet protocol, this plan would have been very challenging for me at the beginning. Long story short--being homebound in March during COVID was the perfect time to start The Plan. Restaurants were closed and because I was working from home, I could focus some extra attention on self-care with my diet. I am also conveniently located near a Whole Foods grocery store and have the funds to spend on organic foods and supplements. Since starting this program, I have lost 9 pounds. I would have been happy with a 5-lb. weight loss, so the extra 4 are a happy bonus. I weigh less now than I did before all my ailments began four years ago. I have discovered wheat or gluten is absolutely the #1 culprit regarding my joint/foot pain. I've been using the MSM supplement that was recommended in the plan, and it has been life-changing. This can be a difficult diet to follow. I think it is most beneficial for those of us who are experiencing health problems that so negatively impact our quality of life, we are willing to make sacrifices with the foods we used to love--in my case bread, pasta, pizza. It's been interesting to see what other foods cause "reactions" in body--shrimp, soy, spicy foods. I still eat them from time-to-time, but make sure to follow with non-reactive foods in the days that follow. I am able to enjoy a wide array of fruits, veggies, meats--and red wine, dark chocolate. I react with vodka and tequila and bourbon and champagne, but not gin. So weird. I am completely pain-free and have taken up yoga. I also "power walk" daily. I'm glad I gave this protocol it's due diligence. It's been successful for me, and I have a positive outlook on the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2018Do yourself a favor and don't hesitate to purchase this book your body will thank you for it. I followed the Plan was excited to find this so have just started the Metabolism Plan and Ann happy to say I have lost 5 pounds. The cleanse makes you feel so young and full of energy! Very addictive that cleanse.
You eat real food, thru this book you will learn what healthy foods are for you this plan is truly personalized for you because you work the Plan and discover what works for your body. I found out that healthy banana I ate 3 times a week was what was making me sick on those afternoons. And that's a healthy food good for you right?, wrong. Chicken and rice is not a good combo for me I gain weight, but beef and rice is ok. Everything is a test and it takes work on your part this is not an easy pill to correct all the weight you gained over the years, but a lifetime of learning your body and listening to what is healthy for you while losing weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best healthy and gourmet recipes one can find in one place
I learned a lot from the book about how to eat when to eat and what to eat , in addition the recipes are prepared with lovely flavours and when I cook them all home fill with nice aroma and they become so delicious. I even by this learned how to use spices to bring more flavour to any dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Molto Contenta!
