An Unlikely Couple Struggles to Reconcile the Burdens of Their Past

Dani Prescott came to the children's hospital to spy on Brett Somers--so how did she end up on a date with him? Weeks earlier she'd seen an interview in which he blamed her mother for the plane crash that had killed his parents. But the crash had killed her mother as well, so Dani can't believe the story Brett's trying to sell to the media.

Vowing to find a way to discredit the privileged--and maddeningly handsome--Brett, Dani has been following him and taking photos, hoping to find something she can use against him. But when she catches his eye instead, she quickly finds herself offering up a fake name and agreeing to a date. Brett knows this mystery girl is hiding something--but he's got his own secrets to keep. What will happen when he discovers who she really is? Will Dani and Brett look beyond their own heartaches to discover a love that could heal their deepest pain?

Fresh, flirty, and fast-paced,
When Love Arrives is an engaging story that will have readers falling in love with the characters as they navigate the tricky waters between romance and revenge.

From the Back Cover

"The story of Dani and Brett captured me from the very first page and held me fast all the way through to the last. When Love Arrives is an engaging romance, but even more, it's a testament to the way God sometimes turns our best plans upside down in order to give us something better."--Ann Tatlock, award-winning novelist and children's book author

Review of When Love Arrives by Johnnie Alexander
Review of When Love Arrives by Johnnie AlexanderWhen Love Arrives is book two in the Misty Willow Series, the follow-up novel to Johnnie Alexander’s book, Where She Belongs. In Where She Belongs, we were introduced to Shelby Kincaid and AJ Sullivan, two characters on opposite sides of a years-old family feud. By the end, AJ and Shelby discovered that a shared history can create a beautiful future. In Johnnie Alexander’s first installment, we also meet a supporting character, Brett Somers, as he learns some life-altering news.In When Love Arrives, we follow Brett Somers as he copes with the reality that he has fathered a son, only learning of the child after unfortunate circumstances land the boy in a coma. As Brett’s heart changes and he seeks to make things right, he’s brought face-to-face with the damage that his selfish behavior has caused. As Dani Prescott digs for dirt on the man who ruined her mother’s reputation, she inadvertently runs into Brett as she follows him to the hospital where Brett’s son resides. When Brett asks Dani on a date, she says yes, telling herself that it will be the quickest way to find a devastating secret to use against him. Shelby, AJ, and the whole Misty Willow cast welcome Dani with open arms, giving her the family that she so desperately wants. As time wears on, Dani’s bitterness is slowly dismantled by the new man Brett is trying to be. But the truth Dani keeps hidden has the power to destroy the burgeoning romance.Johnnie Alexander’s story-telling skills shine again as she deftly weaves themes of abiding love through her characters’ search for peace and redemption. Dani’s heartache is palpable, even as classic movies compliment Brett’s new-found chivalry. As a reader, I thoroughly enjoyed the by-play between the new characters and the appearance of some of my favorite characters from book one. When Love Arrives was a wonderful addition to the Misty Willow series, and I’m eager to read book three. With believable characters, smooth writing, and light humor, this inspirational, Christian romance is a highly recommended read.

    "Which window is yours?"

Dani Prescott can scarcely believe that the man she has been camera stalking just caught her looking, not towards the hospital windows, but at him. It's fortunate that the handsome, confident Brett Somers has no idea what she was really doing. If he did, he certainly would not have asked her to spend the evening with him at a vintage theater watching Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman on the big screen. Dani knows that she should never have said "yes"; obviously she wasn't thinking, because one evening turns into a myriad of pleasant conversations, invitations, and aspirations, until eventually the person she once determined to hate has wormed his way into her traitorous heart. It seems impossible for this story to have a happy ending.

"I trusted in the Lord when I said, 'I am greatly afflicted'. "Psalm 116:10

Brett Somers is not used to being in the "greatly afflicted" category, he has lived life in the fast lane, enjoying the fringe benefits of a powerful family, limitless career opportunities, and beautiful women. It's only when a helpless little boy, who happens to be his son, is hanging onto life by a thread that Brett's moral compass shifts into neutral, causing him to question his entire list of priorities. Is it a coincidence that a lovely brunette captures his eye and makes him feel like for once, everything could turn out alright? Only time will tell.

This is an outstanding story of two souls whose regrets are buried deep within, but thankfully "nothing is impossible with God"! Wonderful book!

I am a sucker for redeemable characters and this story delivered. After meeting Brett in book one of this series, I was sure I wouldn’t like his story. Am I glad to be wrong. I loved the way that Brett grew into such a better person, reminding me that we can have circumstances that shape us in negative ways, but we can rise above them with the right people motivating us.

Dani also struggle with her past and sometimes I had difficulty with her insecurities, but I rooted for these two wounded souls to find love with each other.

When Love Arrives is the second book in the Misty Willow series by Johnnie Alexander. It is a Christian, clean romance with some suspense and is a well written story with a smooth flow and it held my attention throughout the book. The featured characters in this book is A.J. Shelby, Brett and introducing Dani. These characters are all well developed and interesting.

Dani Prescott has grand ambitions of getting revenge of Brett Somers, the man who bad mouthed her mother, the pilot of the plane crash that killed his parents. Her mother died in the crash as well. After watching him in an interview that blamed her mother, she set out to find something on him that would make him look just as bad. Now she finds herself out on a date with him. Not what she had planned. As things progress she starts to think he might not be the man she thought he was and her plans quickly unravel. Brett knows Dani is hiding something, he just isn’t sure what. He doesn’t want to push her, he has secrets of his own. As both of their secrets come to light, they have to decide if what they were starting to feel for each other will outweigh the truth of the past.

When Love Arrives is a story that readers of the Christian, contemporary romance genre will really enjoy. The story starts with Dani and Brett meeting and Dani’s plans falling apart as she finds herself on a date with Brett. Thinking maybe she can use this to her advantage, she agrees to go and has an unexpectedly nice time. I can understand being upset if someone bad mouths a family member you care about, but the extremes that Dani goes to, or plans to go to, in order to get back at Brett are a little farfetched. She sets out to get revenge on him and instead falls in love with him. I can kind of see that happening but some things just didn’t fall in place as well as they could have.

Overall there is nothing that stands out in this story as something that will really grab you and hook you. I liked the aspect of Brett finding out he had a son and the way he played that out. In trying to establish him as a good guy instead of the young, immature, screw-up he had been in the past was a nice way to go about showing his changes. The story had a nice flow and didn’t take very long to read. I didn’t realize until I was finished that this was the second book of the Misty Willow series but I didn’t see that as a problem. Having not read the first, I don’t think it would matter if you read them in order or started with this one. The overall theme of finding forgiveness instead of looking for revenge was nice. The only way to be happy is to find those good positive things instead of hanging onto the negative. A lesson we all need to remember from time to time.
