A Small-Town Bride (Chapel of Love Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 178 ratings

Amy Lyndon is tired of being the Poor Little Rich Girl of Shenandoah Falls. In her prominent family, she's the ordinary one - no Ivy League education and no powerful career. But when her father tries to marry her off, she knows it's finally time to stand up for herself, despite the consequences. Now that she's cut off from the family fortune, her first challenge is to fight her attraction to her handsome new boss.

When Amy shows up looking for work with his landscaping crew, Dusty McNeil thinks there's no way such a pampered princess will ever get her hands dirty. But as Amy proves him wrong and gets down to the nitty gritty, Dusty's admiration turns to like, then lust - and then love. But can a high-society woman like Amy ever fall for a man like him?

Amy Lyndon is the daughter of a very wealthy man. She has lived all her life as a privileged person. When her father loses his cool over her credit card bills, he throws her out of the house. He also closes all her credit cards and only allows her 15 minutes to get out.

Amy quickly finds that she has no assets. She is angry so decides she will not go to members of her family to get help. She comes from a very large family populated by very wealthy people. Everyone in the family believes Amy is “ridiculous”, an “idiot”, and incapable of deciding anything or doing anything productive.

Her father, and all the family, expected her to surrender to his will and marry Grady. Grady is a hedge fund millionaire. He has a small bald spot, no true personality and Amy does not love him.

Amy determines that she will show everyone. She will stand on her own two feet and succeed by hard work. The fact she has never done any hard work does not deter her.

When Amy goes to look for work, she finds that she can be hired as a gardener at a luxurious event location. She knows little about gardening, but she can learn.

Her boss is Dusty McNeil. He comes from a family which has been in the area for even longer than the Lyndon’s. He is a ladies’ man who loves ‘em and leaves ‘em. His reputation is as a player. He will not commit to anyone. Ever.

But, he has a good heart and after sending Amy into the dark, night woods on a snipe hunt, he feels guilty. So, he helps her along in order that she can keep a job that pays very little. After her learns she has been sleeping in her care, he also finds a free place for her to stay.

This is a story about people who have things to learn and old wounds to heal. This is a story showing that a public perception about people is not necessarily true. This is a story about learning to recognize people for who they truly are and allowing them to be that person.

Amy learns she has talents and skills. Those talents and skills allow her to eventually get a better job at the event center. This job will allow her to be appreciated for who she is. And she will also have a little more money.

Dusty learns that he has a heart. He also learns that no matter what people believe about him, he has the ability to prove them wrong.

Amy’s family members are quite entertaining. Many of them are not exactly nice people. And all of them feel they have the right to belittle Amy and continually remind her that she is not capable of anything.

She took great satisfaction in proving them wrong.

    I enjoyed this story.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It will not be the last.

Judging people is going to get you into a world of hurt – believing the judgement of other people about yourself is one hundred times worse. These are things that Amy and Dusty know, but have to learn the lesson the hard way – usually the way to learn anything is by doing, experiencing it yourself. These two are about to get an education.

In many ways Amy was the spoiled rich girl. In other ways she was the odd one in her family, the one without the high level education, the one who others called dumb, stupid and odd. She wants more than the loveless marriage that is being pushed at her. She believes in love, and happy ever afters and possibilities beyond what she seems destined to experience. In a moment of rebellion she ends up being cut off from the family she loves, the money she’s accustomed to, even the home where she lays her head. With nothing but her stubbornness, her determination and yes, her hurt to drive her Amy does what no one expected… she survived, she made her own way and she found what she’d been looking for.

Dusty wasn’t expecting much at all from the spoiled princess who ended up working the grounds of the estate. She’d never cut it here, and he could wait her out before ending her employment. But a funny thing happened along the way to the unemployment line in Dusty’s mind – Amy worked, she learned, she grew and she blossomed into someone he never expected. As his judgement slowly grew into something much more, Dusty began taking a good long look at his own life and began making changes of his own.

I enjoyed A Small-Town Bride very much. Not only do Amy and Dusty work well together as a couple, they give us a good life lesson in how not to judge others without knowing what we’re talking about. This romance has bits of happy and sad mixed in with the growing of both Amy and Dusty from what they were to what they could become. As always, Hope Ramsay gives us a realistic romance with likable characters, and a whole slew of secondary characters to enjoy. I don’t look for things to learn from the romances that I read, but sometimes I’m reminded, gently, that what you see isn’t always the entire story – and to hold off judgement until you know the facts. I liked this couple, and I believe you will, too. Definitely recommend this story, and the entire series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Only Hope Ramsey could write so delightful a tale. The premise that a man who prefers hot sexy singles gals, until he gets hit by the Thunderbolt of a down to earth rich daughter who has been temporarily cast out by her Father to make her grow up is great. The Snipe Hunt is really funny to those of us who have been there, done that. This is serious cute, without complex drama.

I enjoy all of this author's books. Have been a fan a long time and she didn't disappoint this time. I love stories set in small town. Any had to really work to get anyone to listen to her or respect her choice of work after her dad kicked her out of his mansion. Needless to say, Dusty came around when he saw she was such a hard worker and the romance was on! Anyone who wants to escape into a sweet book about family and choices should love this book too.
