Debra Clopton is a USA Today bestselling & International bestselling author who has sold over 3.5 million books. She has published over 81 books under her name and her pen name of Hope Moore.

Under both names she writes clean & wholesome and inspirational, small town romances, especially with cowboys but also loves to sweep readers away with romances set on beautiful beaches surrounded by topaz water and romantic sunsets. She recently launched her first wholesome women’s fiction with romance and combined both her love of cowboys and beaches in her new Star Gazer Inn of Corpus Christi Bay series. She and readers are loving the experience!

Debra is a multiple award-winning author, but of all her awards, it is her reader’s praise she values most. If she can make someone smile and forget their worries for a few hours (or days when binge reading one of her series) then she’s done her job and her heart is happy. She really loves hearing she kept a reader from doing the dishes or sleeping!

In 2016 she decided to take control of her publishing career and returned contracts along with advance money to her traditional publishers of 10 years and opened her own publishing company and never looked back. Her books now sell worldwide and are regulars on the Bestseller list in the United States and around the world.

A sixth-generation Texan, Debra lives on a ranch in Texas with her husband surrounded by cattle, deer, very busy squirrels and hole digging wild hogs. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

After reading the six books in the Sunset Bay series, I thought it would be fun to check into the Windswept Bay Inn series. I really enjoy the way Debra Clopton writes, and after reading this story, I am still enthralled by her style of writing. We all have things that happen in our lives that are difficult or even totally awful. It is nice to read about the struggles and overcoming of obstacles to find happily ever after. Each character is unique as are the past problems they have faced, and I love a good love story. I also love the beach, and her writing makes me feel like I am there. This is the love story of Grant, a famous artist, and Cali who hires him to paint murals for the Inn she and her sisters are renovating. It is a wonderful story.

Cali has just finished going through a nasty divorce and no longer trusts men. Grant is the only survivor of a plane crash. They are both just going through the motions until they meet, then the sparks start!

One can almost smell the sea and see the scenery in this sweet tale of trust lost and won again. The murals are described in such detail one can imagine them quite easily. The characters are very deep and have developed their own coping mechanisms. They are easy to like and easy with which to sympathize. It is a short novel that can be read in an afternoon as one imagines walking barefoot along the beach.

A clean romance! I loved it! I'm not a beach comber but still enjoyed reading about it. I loved reading about the sea turtles, but was saddened too. Glad the author added a great return to the ocean for one. The characters were so honest, no ridiculous accusations or drama, just a cute romance, an artist determined to catch the girl of his dreams. I do wish the author had worked out the living arrangement though. That part remained a cliffhanger instead of an epilogue. Great story by a great author!

Cali has sworn off men following a bad marriage and a rough divorce, but meeting Grant--the artist who will paint murals at the resort she runs--brings a change of heart and perspective for them both.

(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)

Plot and Setting: 3 -- Plot mixes cliche/overly convenient with unique/interesting. I liked the mural elements, and the idea of Cali and Grant helping each other heal from their past hurts. But it’s very predictable, and then a very sudden HEA. A huge, quick leap from making slow progress on trust to publicly declaring their love. What? Lots of issues not resolved. Setting (including timeline) is somewhat unclear or inconsistent. Time of year and exact location of the island are unspecified. Some conflicting hints of the location, even.

Characters: 2.5 -- Main characters are mostly relatable, realistic, interesting, and/or dynamic. There's potential for depth and character exploration, but the actual emotional impact of both his plane crash and her abusive ex are really played down. I was disappointed. Minor characters are almost exclusively stereotyped or simplified. Relationships between characters are rather sketchy. Cali and Grant don't actually spend that much time together, it's mostly just their magical insta-bond. Cali's sisters mostly irked me--teasing someone who's feeling down and vulnerable? Poorly done.

Mechanics and Writing: 2.5 -- Frequent typos, punctuation issues, and word errors. Mainly punctuation errors closely related to a serious problem with conjunctions and run-on sentences. Also redundant word choices (for example, 'the shiny armor that a knight in shining armor wore') and generally awkward phrasing. Most often (and I do mean often) it's just bad grammar, but it also veers into being truly confusing at times. Generally solid use of POV (Grant and Cali). The writing style lacks polish overall, and occasionally detracts from the story.

Redeeming Value: 3 -- Incidental uplifting themes or lessons. Though there's not a whole lot of depth to it, Cali and Grant inspire each other to find the happier versions of themselves they thought were lost. Grant is humble about his artistic talent, and takes great joy in encouraging budding artist Jax. Sex, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified. No more than a few kisses.

Personal Enjoyment: 2 -- I’m not a fan. Some good bits, but reading it felt rather like a chore. Not one I plan to re-read.

This was a very interesting book. I enjoyed reading it. It kept your attention and interest all the way through. A light romance mingled in made it enjoyable to read also.

This would be a great beach read as the setting is at a resort. . I'm giving it 4 stars. Summary: Cali Sinclair comes home to help run her family's resort. She is regrouping from a bad marriage and an ugly divorce. Grant Ellington has been commissioned to paint murals at the resort. He, too, is struggling with depression since a plane crash killed two of his friends while he walked away with only cuts and bruises. He doesn't know if he can paint anymore, until........he meets Cali and sparks fly. I would love to give this book 5 stars as it is better than a 4; however, I was annoyed by the immaturity of the sisters in this story. Cali is 32 and all of her younger sisters are in their twenties and they are all acting like silly teenagers over men. I would like to add that Debra kept this book clean and classy as it could have easily turned into smut.

Another beautiful story by an amazing author. It took me a while to read this book from my Kindle library, but it was worth it.

Cali's failed marriage and dashed dreams; Grant Ellington is a famous painter dealing with survivors' guilt - are they destined to help each other...you have to read this one to find out.

Enjoy and happy reading!

I really enjoyed this story of Cali and Grant. Lovely beach romance story. Debra gets right to the point in her story telling. Well developed characters, clean and no unnecessary scenes. This is my second book in the series. Can't wait to read the rest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely want more of this series

A nice start to this series - and oh! what a surprise, not one sex scene in it!
Grant, sole survivor of a plane crash, suffers from survivor guilt. Besides being a rancher, he's a famous painter of murals but has lost his inspiration after the crash.
Cali Sinclair, still suffering from a bad divorce, is not willing and not able to trust any man again, and quite happy to work in the resort she owns with her siblings.
When Grant agrees to do murals for the resort as a favour to Cali's brother Cam, his neighbour rancher, the air soon starts sizzling between those two; but one of them doesn't feel worthy of being happy, and the other is too hurt to take another risk.
Likeable characters who could have used a little bit more depth, but what was there was okay considering the length of this book. A lovely setting, a good plot, and good storytelling make this a very entertaining read for some hours.
I will definitely get more of this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little predictable

A good beginning but the romance resolved too quickly to be believable due to the emotional issues of the main characters. Otherwise a nice clean read.
