Revolutionary War Ghosts of Connecticut (Haunted America) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

The founder of Seaside Shadows Haunted History Tours sheds light on the supernatural stories of the Constitution State.

Bloody battlefields and raucous taverns in Connecticut served as the backdrop for pivotal figures and bold actions vital to the American Revolution. Nathan Hale is said to still conduct lessons in New London and East Haddam, and many suspect that George Washington occasionally visits the Shaw Mansion and Fairfield's Sun Tavern. The presence of notorious traitor Benedict Arnold is often felt in the Leffingwell Inn and at Ye Antientist Burial Ground in New London, where he commanded troops numbering 1,600 as a newly turned Loyalist. Picnickers claim to see apparitions of wounded soldiers seated among them at Fort Griswold in Groton. Step foot into a time when the Sons of Liberty, Tories and Patriots changed the course of history as author Courtney McInvale uncovers the Revolutionary haunts of Connecticut.

I enjoyed the ghost stories for their entertainment and detailing of otherwise obscure history of minor events during the American Revolution. Not particularly well written, but seems to have been fairly well researched for interesting facts and events. If you like the intersection of history and ghost stories, you'll probably enjoy this book.

If you want a history lesson on Connecticut during the Revolutionary War, this book is excellent. If you want to read about ghost stories, it is pitiful. The title seems to promise ghost stories, and some history would be good to set the background. But, after reading pages and pages of history, too many stories end with a person having a 'feeling.' Perhaps it is a feeling of being watched, feeling of someone/something standing beside them, or maybe just a feeling of wanting to be scared because of the history of the building they are standing in. In a couple of stories, the author creates a ghost story by bringing in technology gadgets and explains readings. In a word, this book is boring.
