This story has some of all things that make a great story of life lost found love and lust. Some links to Stockholm syndrome, personal loss of a child, withdrawal, organ donation, divorce?, adoption?, renewal, rebuilding houses, homes and trust. Every one thinks Maverick is an evil threat but his reason is help people to be drawn together and do the right thing. Hopefully Maverick's story and ID will be told at some point in this lovely series of books by varied authors. This approach sure does sell books to me and keeps this 75 yr, old male tied to his Kindle for far too many hours according to the love of my life for more than 50 years. Here's to Royal, TX, TCC and some interesting people and situations. Just have to wait for next books in the series.

Emily and Tom had a lot of kids and painful memories to work through before they would reunite. The story was good and I liked the characters. I would have liked to find out who Maverick was without having to read complete series.

The loss of a child is always painful. Learning how to hold on to love in the middle of the grieving process is a challenge.

Blackmail is the catalyst to get this estranged pair talking again. Although, now that I look back, the bad guy never asked for anything and doesn't make more contact after the initial email. I have not read the others in the series, so I don't know if this is the normal pattern or not.
This was a hard read, even though I haven't lost a child like that. The actions and reactions of Tom and Emily felt very real and normal for a grieving couple. The two steps forward and one back pattern will be very familiar to many couples.
They truly love each other, but think the other would be better off if they were divorced. Tom's protective instincts drive him to take care of Emily when she gets a hateful email. The willingness to work together and really talk to each other helps them to come back together.

Enjoyed this book. I cried and smiled throughout the whole book. I enjoy a book where I get involved with the couple in the story.
